Near the lighthouse, he was a few hundred metres from the stairs down from the cliff, and down there should be damn amazing ice cascades. In Soviet time, Paldiski hosted around 30 000 marines, the "civil" population (mostly the navy officers and their families) being around 8000. Most of the ruins of the barracks have been demolished, right after the Soviets left some area was like a field of ruins there. And, the so-called "Pentagon of Paldiski" was the largest building in Estonia (even bigger than the structure where Bald hurt himself), it has been demolished as well. The railway station building in Paldiski is from 1871, being one of 2 oldest surviving railway stations in Estonia.

We knew Bald was coming, so we closed everything for a week. Estonians are most introvert, nonsocial nation on planet. Having a youtuber here, is everyones biggest nightmare. The biggest piece of courage we can hope for is some woman silently talking across the street that her alleged son Arthur is a fan of Balds, saying the truth that she was the fan herself, would be too bold for any Estonian. Usually we just walk on the street with a beer in freezing cold and drink our sorrow away and if someone asks any question, we just mumble something, cause that's probably 1st time and last time someone has asked us anything and we don't remember the right words anymore.

The red writing on the wall is from "New Wuthering Heights" (新・嵐が丘 Shin Arashi ga Oka) is the opening theme of "The Woman Called Fujiko Mine." This is a 2012 Japanese anime series based on Monkey Punch's Lupin III manga. The full song goes: Now, stop everything you're doing, Allow your heart to race, and look at me. To steal, is not to take something away or to break something. It is a special case. An elegant vice. It's an amalgam of secrets, felonies, mischief, and terror. Just like with Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, A life dedicated to stealing brings about the ultimate sensuality. It's a prison of sexiness from which she cannot escape. Its psychological foundation is: Unknown. Who is the slave? Who is the master? Is God watching her? Has God abandoned her? Te act of stealing lets her forget everything And evokes faint memories. Don't speak, run. Don't run, hide. If you find me, punish me. If you punish me, kill me. Save me. But you have nothing left for me to steal, silly boy. You are completely empty, just like me. So if you want to look at me, then stop everything you're doing, Stop everything but your beating heart and look at me.

That was such a great insight on Lilya 4-ever! I loved that movie and I never knew that they filmed those parts in Estonia. I recommend the film to you guys if you haven't but like he said, it is a bit hard hitting.

Lukas Moodysson's film are all a bit off the wall. Saw Show Me Love at the Duke of York's (Brighton) and was hooked. I went back and saw the 2nd showing that same day. t.A.T.u. got me interested in Russia and USSR. They are on the Lilya soundtrack too.

The movie is based on a real story (it actually took place in Lithuania, not Paldiski though).
@dcarbs29793 жыл бұрын
@@forgottenmusic1 That's why it was sponsered by Amnesty International. Although I thought it was about the whole Baltic region (not just a specific republic). Obviously if it shows a character's personal story, it can only originate from that character's town/country.
@forgottenmusic13 жыл бұрын
@@dcarbs2979 Well, if to go to the details - the (more or less) authentic part of the movie is what happened in Sweden (based on writings found after the girl committed suicide). The story filmed in Paldiski is mostly representing the director's vision, including that the whole character of her little friend is fictive. Paldiski was chosen, as an extreme location - the whole town as a whole was previously a Soviet naval base, and when the Soviet Union collapsed, it still took 3 years, before the then already Russian army left the place. During these 3 years, most of the buildings were abandoned and looted, and, mostly just retired people remained in town (as everyone in town was connected to the Soviet navy). Due to the Paldiski's favorable location (close to Tallinn and good road connections), it slowly recovered as a civil town, with the traces still being seen, some similar Soviet military towns in the Baltics with less favorable location were abandoned completely.
