Dude, hearing this I'm glad those were still alive when I started getting known football. @@Yami1300 Look at the number. More specifically look at the goal scored with the national team. Nobody has a better goal scored per match ratio than the "Bomber der Nation" (68 goals in 62 matches). Even Pele (77/92) or Puskas (84/85) are behind Muller. Not to mention Cruijff (33/48), Messi (109/186) or Maradona (34/91) who are far, far behind. The very same teammate have testified that. Paul Breitner for example is very clear in saying that Gerd Muller has made the real difference for Bayern Munich and for the national team. Gerd Muller was simply phenomenal

It has to be noted that Zagallo, one of the other two footballers beside the Kaiser to win the World Cup both as player and as coach, passed away just two days before him. An era has ended. I would also add that Franz Beckenbauer in his tima as an official was instrumental in bringing the 2006 cup finals to Germany.

We lost so many great people. People that defined germany after the war, people that made it what it is. The people that brought prosperity, safety and stability into this country. My grandfather was also one of them. He died on april the 8th with 96 years. He worked so extremely hard for this country, leaving three children and many grand-children and grand-grand-children behind. He was such an extremely strong willed person who always wanted the best for his family. People like that are not made anymore in germany. The hard times brought germany the strongest generation since we could remember. And now they are dying away, one after another, leaving our weak generations that grew up in constant prosperity and peace.

For some reason, his career gave me a strange de ja vu considering what has had happened to Messi, who also forced to leave his club for PSG, but then fled to USA and played very well at Inter Miami. Still though, Der Kaiser has to be recognized not as the greatest of all times, but the all-times greats as a football player himself. He indeed completed football as a whole. As a Hanseatic man from Hamburg I can say this is the most wonderful homage on Beckenbauer - especially the history of Bayern during the Nazi times I didn't know - I saw him play at HSV in 1983 against Leverkusen after the legendary 3:4 win from HSV in Munich - and I saw hin at his farewell game from the national team in Hamburg - Everybody who knew hin said what humble guy he was - I would the most famous German in modern times - when friends from Kinshassa or Tehran migrated to Hamburg, everybody already knew at the age of 5 who was Franz Beckenbauer 🙂

Loved that episode!! If I could make a suggestion, look up Uwe Seeler. He´s a German (Hamburg) legend who only ever played for the same club, despite getting huge offers from international clubs. He is one of 6 Honored Captains of the german national Team beside Fritz Walter, Lothar Matthäus, Jürgen Kliensmann, Phillip Lahm and of course Franz Beckenbauer. He became part of the national Team when he was 17 and Captain at 24/25. He was also the first top scorer in the first Bundesliga season, sadly he passed away in 2022.

But to say "Germany made it somehow to the finals" in the World Cup 1954 is not very nice because the German team played very convincing during the KO games defeating Austria 6:1 in the semi finals. And don't forget that the team that lost to Hungary 3:8 was a B team because Herberger who expected to lose against Hungary spared his best players for the last group game against Turkey. But again, I like your video.

In my youth and high school years I would only play as libero. That’s keeping the defence going while being free (libertad) to push forward when the pitch opened up. Watched every game I could and if not, read every match report where Beckenbauer played. Many tried to imitate him, but we were all mere pawns compared to ‘Der Kaiser.’ Amazing sportsman and mercurial footballer with talent to spare.
