Being a friend to your self, what a hard lesson to learn after only ever hearing criticism and negativity towards yourself from those you expect to love you. I think this is the hardest for men, as its rare to ever hear something positive said towards you as a man. You cant expect others to make you happy, its up to you to be happy anyway.

@@mcgritty8842Let me state first that I’m not religious. This all has nothing to do with religion. Jesus knew that was what was going to happen if he lived the way he lived and said the things he said. He knew it before he came actually. It was his joy to do that.. The sacrifice was coming down and completing the work. We all sacrifice in this life if we choose to give and receive love.. It’s good that you are thinking about these things

The strength that I have found through your books and videos has helped me keep going, when times are dark I find myself coming back to things I have read or watched over and over. Thankyou for making somthing like stoicism so accessible, and relatable.

I’ve followed stoic teachings for many years now and Ryan has been a great guide for me as I’ve faced extreme stress, heartbreak, divorce, loss of career and now the spectre of illness. I push myself to “do my best” in each situation I find myself in (though I don’t always manage it) so that I can live with myself and be a good role model for my sons. I don’t tell anyone about any of this and in the end I cling to two of Marcus’s quotes. “The obstacle is the way” and “I’m not afraid of death, I’m only afraid of not doing my best”.

Good job dropping a random quote with no added context or insight..... Let me do it for you. Maybe being alone and isolated is NECESSARY in seeking what's best for yourself. Thank you so much Ryan. I have been helped so immensely by this “thought technology” as Merlin Mann would call it. Life cannot be appreciated without these practices, and so many of us would be oblivious to what has been figured out for thousands of years if not for your compelling words and passion. I burst out laughing when I saw Tom Segura talking about ego. I used to love Tom but he has no doubt become intolerably arrogant, ungrateful, and entitled over the past couple years. He is almost the antithesis of what you preach. He’s enormously successful and has a large audience, and that is a powerful siren you must resist Ryan. It’s like having a video about being self-aware and then including a quote from Trump. Thank you Ryan!
