What are your best methods for keeping your emotions from controlling you?

I could never control my Emotions i always failed in that...but I do manage to channel it for different purpose like... Anger for exercise Drawing for lust/love Singing for happiness Playing music(casio is my personal fav inst to play) for sadness/grief Still working on anxiety(walking so far seems to do the trick) Though i don't know what I would do in the moment where sudden response is required

You give lots of examples of people that could control their emotions. Maybe I missed it but I did not hear you say how they got like that? I have been around several ex-Navy Seals and that is the common thread I see running through them is that they are extremely calm. I imagine most of them were leaning that way anyway but I think they have some way of teaching them that.

I pause and give myself the time to examine the source of it. I then ask myself whether it’s a negative emotion or a positive emotion. If it’s a positive emotion and would like to receive the benefit of that positive emotion I allow it to, and if it’s a negative emotion I picture a wave as it comes, then, goes away. This all takes 30seconds but 30 seconds is a small price to pay for tranquility

My best methods for keeping my emotions from controlling me is through repeated maximum exposure to stimuli that is well outside of my emotional comfort zone, and positively reinforced through strong and valuable rewards. It is typically in extreme and uncomfortable situations that our emotions get the best of us (emotionally hijacked). Repeated exposure to negative stimuli helps us prepare for the worst while enjoying the best/normal. Staying calm in stressful situations keeps you alive, objective and successful at everything you do and in every decision you have to make.

So good, man! Thanks for doing what you do! Recently I restarted the habit of reading, just for help getting to sleep (basicly Agatha Cristhie novels) but it was shallow... With you I found in what to dive deeper! Your book, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca! Thanks!

I try to take care of myself and others. When I am tired, stressed, etc My emotions can control me. I also try to think long term. Would it really matter in a few years? I also try to be empathetic with family and friends to help them whenever I can so that we all see ourselves as a team moving forward in life.

Daily Stoic thanks! I read somewhere that each person have a “love” or “happiness” tank that has to be filled every day. I filled it for myself ASAP so that I can fill others from mine. Things don’t get to me easily that way. I try to teach my children to fill their own tanks too so that they can share with others too. I like your videos, lessons, etc. I always look at them whenever I have a chance 👍.

This has a lot of great points! Just a small comment: try to breathe and pace the talk a little bit slower, it is a lot of information and that way people can understand the content.

Great talk! I think if you could put the principles of “ how to” control and master your emotions into a book or whatever format would be priceless. That is what I struggle with the most. How do I put this into practice in a practical way?
