I am an academic and a marine scientist. People in academia have usuallu big fat egos. I find it humbling when i go out snorkeling and diving in coral reefs and seagrass beds. When I also work with small scale fishermen in the tropics that are below the poverty line. I always try to empathize and feel their pain and try to live like them even for just a few days.

I am currently reading "Ego is the enemy", this book is so dense that it'll take me atleast two thorough reads to digest it, definitely one of the books i will frequently reference back in times of adversity! Love from India❤️

Ryan, you said how we should get off of social media as much as much possible. I know that Daily Stoic has a Facebook group called Daily Stoic Life for members. I'm not in the group and not considering it at this time in my journey with Stoicism, but I'm a member of other Facebook groups. Do you think it is a good use of social media to either join groups of people who have a common interest as you do or follow people who inspire, motivate, or share wisdom?

I watched a movie today - Solaris. From 2002. It reminded me of that year and me in it where social media didn't exist and we were only beginning to use cell phones on the regular. Where you didn't have 2000 opinions of strangers on any given topic readily available while also massaging your ego with posts on social media, upvotes, etc. It seems more healthy to me, I'm thinking about trying to ditch this activity completely beyond practical information I could use...but I already feel almost anxious, scared, like withdrawal, like man I'm not going to be able to do this. And I'm not an overuser. That's not a reaction I want to have.

I think social media is not the problem.I see social media as a tool. For example like a knife in the kitchen is a productive tool but the same knife in the wrong hands at the wrong time is now a weapon. So conclusively th problem is not social media but rather humans. We use it wrongly/badly.social media can be productive(even though i quit years now)...it can be good for advertisement for example...but at the same time too much sugar or honey can kill you.its all about Balance. My humble opinion.Respect Ryan.
