@9000ck

Because they actually want a king. They don't want freedom! They want brown people in internment camps and women in the kitchen having baby after baby. They see themselves as an empire. They deserve their economy to collapse which will if trump has his way with tariffs and deportation of the cheap labor force. They also deserve tulsi gabbard and kristi noem to hand over all your military secrets to putin. they deserve to be dragooned into putin's wars. which they likely will be. the rest of the world don't deserve it. But only the self induced collapse of the US will have any chance of saving it.

The loud minority does, most of us don't... and since we don't screech at, and try to force our views on, everyone else... the loud, ignorant and easily led minority becomes the stereotype for the USA' culture. Which is utterly embarrassing and infuriating.... I believe solidarity is key, more specifically, class solidarity... if we ever hope to disrupt the status quo of oligarchs running our politics and policy. We have got to get big money and lobby groups outlawed from having any influence over policy. The USA seems to have become the very thing they were running from, at the founding.

I had a friend at work who honestly said to me, "I've been hearing that Hitler may not have been that bad." Our society is confused and struggling. It's been too long since WWII and people are beginning to forget its lessons. It may be that we may have to again experience the worst humanity can do in order to fix ourselves.

I agree. Humanity will experience something as never before in my belief of what the ancient words in the holy bible have foretold and thats just my belief Its the only solution. These narcisistic kings and leaders will hold no power on Gods day of wrath. not even their money can save them. theyll be throwing it into the streets. “‘They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will become abhorrent to them. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them in the day of God's fury." (Ezekiel 7:19) I respect everybody elses own opinions. These are just my own. As much as I like and use the WWII framework, ever since I watched Hank Green's video on technological revolutions, populism and our terrible moment, I've more come more to the idea that a good chunk of this technologically related than we think. This is 1500s Martin Luther kicking off a round of religious wars using the new invention of the printing press to make cheap pamphlets. Arguably also Hitler using the new fangled mediums of radio and television to appeal to the people. It's not just that we've forgotten the past, so much as we didn't fully understand it well enough to avoid repeating it.

I’m a veteran of the army, a father of four amazing kids, and a patriot. Thank you for sharing this message. It’s unfortunate that Trump will now illustrate this lesson for the poor ignorant souls who bought his misinformation and put him in the seat of power. He won’t remain there, as you predict based on the evidence of history. Perhaps we needed a reminder of what we hold so precious by having a thug try to rip it out of our grasp. Do not lose hope. There are many ways to resist through the law and our collective resources. American democracy isn’t dead quite yet.

As long as people fight back it is not dead. There are many many people and organisations resisting in their own ways. Like planning to flood courts with lawsuits in pro-democracy favourable courts with judges appointed by Clinton, Obama and Biden. Using the power of states against the fed. The exact tactics Republicans used to halt progress when they didn't have power, being used against them.

Vet here as well. Also a fairly rabid right wing dude on more than a few issues. But I had Trump pegged as a con artist early. It's been frustrating to see smart, educated people delude themselves about this guy. Had a buddy of mine - also army buddy. He's a liberal - definately to my left. He also supported Trump over ending overseas wars, because he was a staunch opponent of the Iraq War. Like wtf? I'm a hawk, I believe we need to stand up to our enemies and not be afraid to through our weight around. - but Trump isn't anti-war. He is anti-doing things for good reasons. He'd totally start a war if he saw benefit from it. Which is the problem. This isn't like a debate over if we should force or not. If you voted for Trump because your anti-war, your a fool.

@FDTFDTFDT

The manosphere/incel flavor isn't true Stoicism. Stoicism emphasizes cosmopolitanism, which means treating the world as part of your community. Stoicism requires admitting when you're wrong and being kind to others when they're wrong. It requires taking care of your fellow man. Stoicism is not compatible with libertarianism. Most importantly, Justice is a core virtue of Stoicism. If you support leaders getting special treatment and escaping justice from the law, you're not a Stoic.

The way things are right now, it is appreciated to see a man call out the most toxic aspects of "masculinity" for what it really creates. There's a saying that can be summed up as "When you are used to being in power/on top, equality of others can feel like oppression." We are seeing that now. Male supremacy, white supremacy, Christian supremacy, and supremacy of the wealthy have been heavily challenged these past couple of decades and now these people think they have won and they will be able to regain power over all of us once more. It's what they want. But I genuinely believe they will fail. We will all have a rough couple of years, years where we will hopefully learn to truly come together and be in community together without accepting hatred in the process. But by pushing people toward one another that way, because they will be assaulting the basic human rights of the overwhelming majority of the country, they will fail. Trump and everyone around him will fail... just as everyone like them who came before. 💜💜💜

How much world history is taught around the world and includes connections between past events and today’s problems. Philosophy isn’t a subject area and ethics isn’t given as an option to studies of religion. In the US there seems to be every little oversight to Home schooling. Whole communities are dictating what is and isn’t taught. Many choosing to focus on the three Rs reading writing and arithmetic. After that it usually self sustaining skills like cooking, cleaning and community contribution that is basically a skill that can be used to earn money or as barter to get help from others in the community. In terms of history it’s either family history or church history. This is the danger of Trump he will say crazy things and some somewhat sensible things when people are rightfully distrust their government or approach with some scepticism. You never know which things he honestly believes and thinks he can get away with and what is said to gain attention or motivate others to do for him. It’s scary that this man’s whole life is documented and people are still shocked by his words and actions or feel betrayed when he acts in true Donald fashion and has you focused on this issue while he’s over there in the room where it happens cutting a deal he knows no one would support. As a psychologist, - especially one who works a lot with men - Trump's incredible level of narcissism has been obvious since he won the nomination in 2016. This video asks what does someone do with power. With Trump in 2016, rather than tack to the center and bring people together, he simply went on his vain, egotistical, maniacal crusade in service of himself. This video does a great job of showing us that history has this lesson for us, but also that it's possible to ignore history and to fall into the service of a weak, ignorant despot. Men, especially white guys for this particular problem given voting demographics, need to stand up and speak out and try to persuade our friends to choose the path toward virtue and recognize malevolent leaders when they emerge. If the rest of us don't do it, too many men will be easy prey for the entrapments of the authoritarian right and their designs for theocratic autocracy. 2 of my 3 best friends voted for the man who said he wants to be a dictator. I grew up in Nebraska and still have family members there. They are all Trumpers. My best friend of years stopped talking to me when he found out that I don't support Trump. We talked all the time and went and played pool together. We'd known each other since we were little kids in school. Even after I relocated for work, we stayed in touch. Then Trump came along, and that was the end. No real discussion or anything, he just stopped texting and talking to me. My parents have passed away, but I do still have a sister and some cousins there. I hear from my sister occasionally, and I text her. A lot of times she doesn't respond for a long time. She sends me the obligatory birthday and holiday texts, but not much more than that. There are millions and millions of people, family and friends, even spouses, who have split because of trump. It's so strange. There isn't a lot of wiggle room; people either love him, or loathe him. But that's not even that important. Our national security is at stake with him, especially given his seven plus private phone calls with Putin over the summer.

In my industry we call this "toxic positivity". Success elevate leaders to a point they don't hear feedback anymore, it goes to their head and they start making huge mistakes without realising the consequences. When faced with those consequences, they either make excuses, blame something else, or they leave and start another venture somewhere else (usually with diminishing success)

The people have been demanding step down for a long time. Only when it was absolutely not feasable anymore did they do it. Chancellor is complicit in multiple tax frauds wirecard and cumex. And current gov never admits mistakes. Why else do like 70% of the populace distrust and dislike the current gov? And toxic positivity is very evident in both the gov and the regulatories and partly to blame for a slow decline, which ex ministers reported frequently, especially around habeck.
@vinventure-wi8bx
@vinventure-wi8bx 21 күн бұрын
Well lovely.. i wrote an extensive reply, but yt censorship dislikes freedom of speech and opinion. Stating the tax frauds certain politicians are complicit in is apparently not possible. And most of the populace wanted the current gov to step down for ages, but they waited as long as possible for it. The system in germany is very bad with no citizen veto, no direct democracy and "party list system" which basically results in "toxic positivity" and one sidedness as was very evident by the speech of one spd politican who gave a very detailed acc of the inner workings of parliament. It all depends on the variance of news people consume since many are ghastly uncritical and just P.R. instead of journalism. Either way we want what is best for the country and currently both economy, wealth, transparency etc are all going down hill thanks to numerous factors, especially vast oligarchy lobbyism.

That Thrasea story is truly incredible. What an impactful story for this moment in history, with the re-emergence of fascism around the world. Falsely accused of crimes the despotic leader of his country has entirely imagined, Thrasea calmly accepts the situation he's in and says "Nero can kill me, but he cannot harm me." What a timelessly powerful thing. I wish Thrasea could've known that 2000 years later we're still discussing that moment, still deriving fortitude from his final declaration, and that his words still ring with the kind of wisdom no tyrant can kill, and still serving to teach us-people separated by two millennia and at least one language-how to be brave in the face of authoritarianism and refuse to submit or change our beliefs to accommodate tyrants. What a bona fide legend.

It’s unfortunate that there will now be countless consumer protection dismantling rollbacks when Trump starts. Biden passed many consumer protection laws which benefit and protect us, eg: 1. No Medical Surprises Act, 2. The Federal Trade Commission announced final “click-to-cancel” rule that requires sellers to make it as easy for consumers to cancel their enrollment as it was to sign up. Most of the final rule’s provisions will go into effect 180 days after it is published in the Federal Register. 3. The Biden-Harris Administration announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a final rule that requires airlines to promptly provide passengers with automatic cash refunds when owed. The new rule makes it easy for passengers to obtain refunds when airlines cancel or significantly change their flights, significantly delay their checked bags, or fail to provide the extra services they purchased. 4. Rule for removing medical debt from credit reports 5. Act stopping credit card companies from charging customers late fees higher than $8. Unfortunately a republican federal judge appointed by Trump blocked it. 6. Take a moment to google for more information on the many Biden consumer protection laws he passed for us.

You can't plea to a narcs emotions. They don't have empathy. It's an insult to them and they find the person "suffering" from these silly emotions as "weak". They think their handicap to be able to connect and have empathy is what makes them superior. And helping them, suggesting something or a plea only makes them either angry and insulted or feel distain and disgust. They really couldn't care less. They only "respect" (not our definition of respect) people with power. A person being humane or kind is reason enough to overpower them and take them over because this disorder makes the normal humans look as weak in their perspective. He doesn't understand leadership. They lie so well because they're not lying. In their head and phantasy, it's the truth. So they don't feel guilty , because there is always a reason for their bad behavior. When you've been in a relationship with a narc. You know you can't appeal to their mercy or empathy because it's not there. If you cry they will do it worse and their pupils dilate like shark eyes. It's a hard thing to do, especially when he has so much support. Sometimes I feel like Trump's reputation is held together by groupthink alone, and it makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills (which is exactly what they want, to be fair). Notice that most Trump supporters will never defend his actions on their merits, but by how many others are willing to validate his actions. For example, when Trump does something indefensible and you call it out, their response is often: "Half of the country voted for him, how terrible can he be?" They find strength in their size, and as their numbers grow, so does their ability to otherize and ostracize their critics. And it's very effective, because humans are social creatures. We find it difficult to speak out against the group, and so many join their ranks due to the sheer gravity of their size. Which is exactly why this type of criticism is so necessary. When we remain silent, we allow their influence to grow uncontested. And the more it grows, the easier it is to justify. And the further we drift from our reality & morals.

I am an ICU nurse who cared for COVID patients. I work in a large hospital and we saw the sickest of the sick. It is so frustrating to me when the severity of the pandemic is completely dismissed. The heath care system was on the brink of collapse and there was a great deal of collateral damage that was suffered by the mishandling of the pandemic by the Trump administration and the disinformation. We had 3 extra units open. The Navy had to come in and help us. When the vaccines were released the ones who died were overwhelmingly unvaccinated. We were being threatened with violence and the care we were providing patients was obstructed by families who did not trust us. Many of the unvaccinated patients we cared for were MAGA anti-vaxxers and their families made our lives hell. We ran out of gowns and masks. We had to reuse N95s for days. I will never forget the day when a respiratory therapist told me we were down to 1 ventilator and the dark laugh we shared wondering what would happen. The amount of nurses who quit working bedside is staggering. Anyone who worked in direct patient care during the COVID pandemic has some level of PTSD. Hospital systems have found that nurses can do more with less, when pressed, and now that is the standard. Trump and MAGA ideology has had a devastating impact on the heath care system and cannot be understated. The lesson I have learned from Trump's win is that if you tell a lie over and over and over and over again, it becomes the truth. That is exactly what he did and it worked.”

@@ChauvinistTroll I disagree. He is right in calling out trump. But if he is a stoic then he should be calling out Harris as well. That is simply what a stoic ought to do for the sake of justice. The fact is that alot of this criticism can be applied to Harris. One example is that she completely denied any accountability for the border crisis and the 300,000 missing children. She can’t even have her own thoughts without it being planned. Nothing she says is profound because of her constant word salad. It is incompetence at is finest, like Nero. Wouldn’t you rather have a narcissist leader in office who got stuff done, rather than an incompetent leader who on the outside may seem selfless. But aside from my political opinions. We as stoics should be looking at both sides with equal effort as we are rational beings. Not pushing a narrative about only one politician without critiquing the opposition. Also by you saying “you’re trying to dilute trumps narcissism by bringing in others” it seems like you acknowledge that by bringing in the fault of Harris, Trump doesn’t look so bad. This is extreme bias. So what, should we say that we shouldn’t talk about the bad of the other candidates so we can get them to win? Absolutely not. Bhagawat geeta tells me about the duties and responsibilities i have toward the world and my surroundings and stoicism is like a magfiying glass that keeps the check of my day to day improvement and weaknesses. You just described the entirety of the US business culture. Executives want their opinions confirmed, then they want to charge everyone else with making their opinion happen. Businesses run on competant, knowledgeable people making incompetent owners look good when they bring almost no value to the business. No, not all executives. No, not all small business owners. But a huge portion, especially as the business gets bigger and bigger.

It's easy, to blame Trump and say all those things about him. Which of course are correct. They are obvious to anyone that can see. However one should not forget that he was voted in office. Twice. And the last time he was voted out by a rather narrow margin. So what we're really dealing with is a population, which likes this type of leader. Which really feels that he's a great choice. It's hard to wrap your head around it when you really think about it. "If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to have selfish, ignorant leaders." - George Carlin

Donald Trump has transformed American politics into a veritable pornography. If sex is an important part of a normal life, then pornography is a gross distortion by stripping it of love. I am hardly alone in m shock that Donald Trump could get re-elected. Few of us have any political activity in our lives outside of participation in elections. So it was with me due to some cardiac incidents related to problems in my GI tract. Those have been resolved, but my distress with Trump is not. Until 2026, about all that I can do is to try to subvert Trumpism with kindness, charity, and conscience that Trump cannot offer. Maybe people who supported Trump will find themselves in distress from bad consequences of his nearly-certain misrule. If he could mangle the response to a pandemic, just wait until the economy tanks. We have an inverted yield curve that presages an economic meltdown, and I expect Trump to try to solve it with bigger tariffs and bigger tax cuts. Trump is obviously not a student of philosophy, economics, or history. I contrast his predecessor, who might be a brilliant man of wide-ranging education who never had to call attention to his personal brilliants. Results would justify him or repudiate him. I can say this: the next conservative President that we have who will be at all effective and not destructive will act much more like Obama than like Trump even if he is an arch-conservative. It's good to have a President who has a cozy relationship with the Armed Forces and the intelligence services. Trump is intellectually lazy, which is fine for someone without great discretion on the job. For people like him, formal education and great wealth are literal pearls before swine. Trump will waste them. I cannot claim to great wisdom, as I have little read the stoic philosophers. At the least I have the Bible at my disposal for ethical issues. For the next two years I will get more out of the stoic philosophers than I can get out of current events and the celebrity circus that Trump has so exploited.

@@minimumapature3361 there’s so much it’s hard to fit it all into one comment ultimately surface level I was scared of my first amendment rights with the twitter files and what’s come out with meta. The government censoring information around an election seems like election interference to me and that scars me more than anything. Also illegal immigration and states which started to not require id to vote. That means illegal immigrants can vote and people from other county can come in and swing are election. I don’t think illegal immigrants are horrible a majority of them are not however if we don’t have any documentation on any of them then how do we know who’s coming in also there are at least some illegal immigrates who are violent criminals and they need to go back to where they came from especially since their illegal also if you look at the economy adjusted for inflation (s and p 500) trumps term saw 56% growth and Biden’s saw 16% downturn. Now Covid was a factor no doubt but everyone saying Biden’s economy was actually much better doesn’t adjust for inflation. Also the media obvious scared me there’s countless examples of them twisting stirrings and ignoring information to make it seem much different than it is in reality. Those are the 3 mainstream points which made me vote for him but there’s much much much more and I’d love to get into them but those are definitely the top 3

There will be damage though, and the country will have to rebuild from a diminished state. It was quite bad at the end of the last term, and the recovery from those four years is still ongoing. Not just the economy, but the loss of confidence in the US abroad(reneging on hard-won deals), the near successful coup that rattled the foundations of US democracy and the open and blatant corruption and nepotism.
