I was very impressed with your pointing out that the two people, even though they're supposedly "prisoners of the Devil", do not seem to be suffering in any way. They have relaxed body language, normal facial expressions etc. And as you also pointed out, the chains around their necks are so loose they could remove them whenever they wanted to, but they don't. Basically, their problem is that they don't even know they have a problem! And that is something we see a lot of in real life. The more you explain the Major Arcana in these videos, the more I think that Arthur Waite and Pamela Colman Smith were geniuses!

Your comment that the Devil was "the opposite of enlightenment" was a new one for me. Perfect. According to Pollack, his upraised hand is the gesture used by the high priest of Jerusalem as a priestly blessing at the Jewish New Year. A quote by Wm. Blake that you might appreciate: "Satan is the symbol of creativity, activity and energy struggling to be free". I feel that this circles back to Marianne Williamson's "our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure...".

It seems like a hatred for accountability is why the Devil gets a bad wrap. We have fun with our lovers and 2 of cups cards (yay) but when the Devil enforces the consequences of the desires we consent to, we blame the devil and not our own lack of self control. Seems to me like there’s more power in being the author of the contract than the star crossed lover demanding the services of the Devil.

I think of ego, pride, and lack of control, lack of intuition, disconnection. Perhaps also mundane, materialistic, superficial or asleep. The devil isn’t “bad” necessarily but necessary as the devil provides something to compare with the light.

I loved this analysis so much. One of the most persistent metaphors I've used when thinking about my life is that at one point I "sold out" or "sold my soul", and it really broke me. I've tried to change the course of my life ever since, but it's so, so hard. Now this card appeared in my reading as my "future" and I see it as another test like that, and I am afraid to fail it again. I've also realized that being safe AND free never even crossed my mind as a possibility. So yeah, lots to unpack here.

I drew the Devil today as a daily draw card. I use the Dark Wood deck and am never surprised when it cuts right to the point. This card directly addresses my current struggle and gives me a lot to think about. I was surprised about the freedom angle of this card. I think a lot of us can fall into the trap of being wrapped up in thoughts and emotions and think of them as the 'self', when that's not really the case. You can transcend these thoughts that may be making you feel that you're not free.

Personally, what got me to acknowledge you was when I 😂realised I have been called "The Devil" by various women in my life who hold different titles in my life like stepsister, ex girlfriend, (no they're not the same person you nasty minded folks!) aunt etc... The Biblical foundation I have of The Devil wasn't enough to help me make sense of why these women called me the Devil, I'm not John Wick, I'm not the boogyman! Along came your video and everything made absolute sense. I will admit I have behaved more as temptation to women than anything else really. Not sure if it's a desire thing but I revel in that and I also build deep emotional relationships with women where some have confessed to not being able to sleep without reading my words cause I only email. He is the "light bearer"- lucifer!! He wants to show us our inner darknesses; he presents us with the enchantments of the earth realm, but let us choose our own path. Its always up to us, we have free will. But we were also put here to experiment with our five senses, without loosing our connection to eternity and the creator. We can only see light if there is darkness, and we can only acknowledge our darkness if there is a "lucifer"... Think about it...

I had a aha moment, today I got the devil card at my tarot reading after a holographic breathing session... During that breathing session the thought I wanna have sex repeated itself over n over. And lately when I try to meditate I often get aroused by sexual images in my mind. Plus few days ago at my therapie session I realized why I'm so addicted to negative thinking and sadbes There's a lot of sadness and negativity within the family system I grew up in and it feels like a part of me wants to stay loyal to the family through negativity and sadness, even though I feel also at the same time I want to be free of that. I could feel it kinda rambling in my body like a tornado, a lot of movement. That's where I am right now. At the same time new doors are opening up in my life and new chances are presenting themselves. A whole lot going on. Feels like a roller-coaster ride. Plus I'm left with... The way that can be named is not the way. Which to me means the way cannot be named because the path is created by each step that is taken, so there can be no label for that path cause no one not even the one who is going or creating that path knows what's coming next. Now I'll be honest, I don't wanna let go of sex, but I wanna let go of negativity and the belief, that I have to stay small, giving power away.

My card last year was Temperance and let me say towards the end of the year I went in the exact opposite direction of moderation and balance. Now this was before I started getting into tarot and I really had no guidance other than my intuition which I ignored to push for a result that shouldn't have been pushed for. Now my card for this year is The Devil and I am definitely understanding what I need to focus on as far as self sabotage and addiction but I am having difficulty knowing how to break free from those habits and if i want to break free at all. The first time I saw the devil card, I was a child, and it was in response to what would my future look. The person read it to me to mean I'd get married. Haven't gotten married, but it's not entirely an irrelevant card in my life either. Some people are probably better at projecting than reading people. My thoughts on the card evolved since then, and I like your interpretation. I do get a sense of rebellion from the card, which might be why it leads to the tower. If someone doesn't break free, something will probably break anyway.

It looks like the Devil is doing the "Vulcan Salute". Of course this card was drawn before Star Trek. The gesture comes from the Jewish tradition, meaning "Lord" or "Blessings".

Yes the Devil is usually a person who due to his own selfish materialistic desires and vices chooses to stay in bondage or negative situation/ partnership etc. repeating the toxic cycle. It’s due to their carnal passions and materialism. It’s a person drawn to the lower vibrations and is working through animalistic desires and vices. It’s still a lesson this person has to explore and go through. I have seen this card appearing in a marriage where people are not staying for love but rather due to material security which keeps them unhappy and in bondage. But they choose to stay, because they like the power and control the money gives them. The person also was prone to addictions and vices (alcohol and gambling).

Valuable lesson! I have a special set of conundrums because I'm new to tarot and using the Dark Mansion deck. (I have the Universal Waite but relate to the other more intensely.) Many symbols are different from the Waite, definitely in this card, and I know I'm missing nuances in my novice condition, but there seems to be no guidebook written for Dark Mansion. Plenty of reviews, but since I own the deck.... Does anyone know of a guide? Or have the deck and thoughts about this version of the Devil card?

Thinking about the perspective that sometimes addiction is an attempt to reach god! So i think thereis more leeway for the devil to be not just necesarilly a material desire,but also, exagerated spiritually dark elements the sense of overwhelming power

That neeeed to drink is not always to forget, but to feel free, ironically altjough it can begin to be a freeing sensation and that is important too, it begins to chain more than free. The freedom becomes a short circuit that is illusive

Infact the horns remind me of a short circuit as well as the legs and the metal bar he is standing on. The horns are directioning towards the shoulders. Ive got a different set of cards and here hes also got wings and his lower body is just fire. So its interesting how although you say 5d reality and material, in my card it is more flighty. As i imagine that addiction is quite dissasociative, ungrounding, mystical almost depending on the drug in use. Its illusive rather than concrete material..

That's interesting - I hadn't considered that. Just this past year I've managed to overcome this bad habit by scheduling Zoom calls and appointments at 9am - if I have a specific reason to get up, I have no problem doing it. This seems to be the trick for me.

I think some of the true evils of this world are born of ignorance. But that ignorance is not a result of a lack of spiritual understanding. The church has been responsible for hindering innovation thought out history, from studies of astrology, to history and medicine. Your definition of ignorance precludes religious peoples when, many religious people actually use their beliefs to perpetuate ignorance and polarizing value judgment that are unhelpful to growing our understanding of the human experience and compassion for eachothers realities.
