When my Father and Mother passed, I planted two gardens...on opposite sides of my home because they truly were "opposites" lol! Dad was a burly, louder-than-life personality who expected everyone to follow his commands. He reminded me of John Wayne, he loved Texas and wore western boots and hats and had a collection of hunting guns. His garden was rocky, with cactus, prickly plants, colorful wildflowers and I used his old cowboy boots as succulent planters. Mother was a gentle, soft-spoken and obedient wife. But of the two, mother had greater patience, a loving, tender heart and her own hidden strength. For her garden, I planted violets, buttercups, roses, irises, cosmos, bells of Ireland, foxglove, carnations and lilies. Each garden expressed their personalities and I talked to each of them, while maintaining "their" memory gardens.

the Dephinium( here in the Netherlands we call them stokrose) they give seeds on the end of bloomingseason, tiny real tiny tiny black seeds, take them uit and put them in a box till next year and you never have to buy them again. they are beautifull. plants for bees are; salvia, lavender, echinea, wildflowers mix, most of the flowers carry their seeds! You just have to take them and keep them till next Spring. Good luck Katherine.

It's your resident bird nerd again 😂 In Ireland, do you have birds with a song similar to the one playing with the music during the first part of this video? It sounds so much like our Wood Thrush in the eastern half of the US (one of my favorites, such a sound of summer). I had to look up what a "sleeper" was -- I often can figure out language differences by context, but this one stumped me! (We call them "railroad ties" where I live.) We have a few weeks before we can start thinking about gardening here (near Boston) so this week I'll be covering the water stain in the ceiling of one room-- thank you for the tips a couple weeks ago! Gave me the courage to tackle it. Thanks so much for sharing the seedling updates and robins singing!

Oh Catherine, I'm in the US so not sure what "Faffing about" the garden really means, but I loved that you said it (maybe muddling along without clear direction/ purpose?) I love cottage gardens (except roses...the thorns just aren't for me), shasta daisies, bee balm (super bee friendly) and hummingbird mint (agastache) are my favs. Oh and daylillies! I just love how easy they are to grow and then they multiply! Then you have more to give to gardener friends. Happy Gardeners World watching.
