the book daisy jones isn’t written in flashbacks it’s actually written like you’re reading an interview or a script even, so each character says their point of view and it’s actually super easy to follow along with which i think is a really cool way to format the book. this is probably one of the reasons the dialogue is a bit iffy, because the events as they’re happening in the 70’s and in the band’s career don’t have actual dialogue or direct quotes in the book. it’s so funny though when you see characters speaking about the same event and they all have different opinions or perspectives right after each other and it’s super fun.
@sosos4306 Жыл бұрын
I was kind of hoping they would do the series with all of them kind of narrating along and some things changing with the narrator to show the different perspectives (I honestly don't remember all the little things that differed in the book - pretty sure there was a part where someone's clothes were being remembered differently)

Because they cut out Eddie's brother Pete altogether, they technically have only FIVE band members. They handwave it by counting Camila as an honourary member, but you can still feel Peter's absence. I do enjoy it so far, though.
@marusamulej6878 Жыл бұрын
That is true, but honestly, in the book, I sometimes forgot about Pete and maybe that is why I didn't feel like I felt a massive absence of him in the show. But yes, the name all of a sudden doesn't make sense. Also for the fans of this fictional band, it would be a bit strange, because they wouldn't count Camilla as a part of a band from an outside view. I love the show tho and I am excited to see how it will end. I liked the changes so far.

But I kinda wished they would switch Chuck to Pete and send him to war like in the book (instead of creating the dentist stoeyline). It would have add Eddie's character more layer. 😢
@klaudia6057 Жыл бұрын
What I found interesting about that was when I started watching the series (before I read the book), the scene where Chuck announces he’s quitting the band, I really thought he was going to say he’d joined up to fight in Vietnam and then I was kinda confused when he obviously didn’t because I don’t think I’ve seen anything set in the 60’s/70’s that hasn’t at least mentioned the Vietnam war. And then I read the book and Pete is the one to join up and then **spoilers** he dies! Which, again, if someone goes off to war in a book/film/tv show, they’re most likely not gonna survive 😬🥲

As far as the dialogue, the entire book is written in interview format so we didn't get a traditional storytelling. There is technically dialogue in the book but of one character saying "then Daisy said ____" etc. and you don't witness the characters interact in real time. It's all recounts of what happened. So most of the dialogue was actually written for the show. I agree some of it feels forced but overall the show is very entertaining. I appreciate the things they changed to make it more cinematic.

About the dialogue and camilla (why people hate her or dislike her): the book has kind of a weird setup with the characters just having dialogue in this make-believe documentary. So in the books its just like: Karen: That is when I joined the band and everybody was super happy and then daisy said I'm so happy you joined the band Daisy: I said to her is was so glad she joined the band (This is a make-believe example before you come after me I know daisy joined later) so it is kind of them recalling their memories and bc memories aren't perfect and personal motives in the books u don't 100% know what actually happened and the show is kind of a way to show that, the things that actually transpired in a way. On camilla: in the books she was like mega chill to almost an extreme. When she found out Billy was cheating she said basically what she did in the show but not in a mad way or in a physical way, just saying: this is going to be it deal with it, which had a lot of power. She also knew about billy's love for daisy but decided that she was going to trust billy making the right choice so maybe she did feel jealous but she didn't act on it and I feel like the show kind of took that away from it. Lines like: "if you ever love her that is when this ends", she would never have said that in the books because she didn't care if billy loved another girl she cared if he kept showing up. The show made her into this jealous behaving girl that is very different from her character in the books I think because it added more drama even though people loved the way she showed her strength in the books and I think that is why people dislike her in the show because it was such a big contrast (not in favor of billy I think, people are pretty unanimous that he is not in any way a perfect person) anyway this was super long hope this cleared things up somewhat

Thank you so much for this, oh my God. I don't have Amazon Prime and this is making my life so much better until they hopefully release it on DVD 😭

OK maybe I'm the minority but I love the girls yet also... don't hate billy? he fucks up for sure but I root for him as a character because he clearly tries to do and be better and owns his mistakes. the fact that he's also an addict and takes ownership of that and doesn't make excuses for it... he's just a super conflicted grey area characters.

I'd recommend listening to the audiobook if you can - it really made the experience for me (especially when it came to the songs)

I think the TV videos are my favourite. Got to say that the plot reminds me so heavily of this fanfic...set in the 70s, famous bands with the most narcissistic front man mc, cheating, love from far away that is painful to look at...etc. Only major difference is that Daisy's character is a guy so that adds an obvious element to the story. They even finally get together by being in a band together damn. I 100% get being infatuated with a fake 70's band - at least yours has an actual show and fanbase behind it LMAO :)
