Amy, I make a regular single crochet in the first and last stitch, BLO in the ones in between. I find it gives me a nicer finished shape. HTH.

That you very much, I appreciate this great tutorial, all the tails gave me anxiety though 😂 having to bring up the yarn without cutting it made me nervous about tangles 😂 I guess because I’m fairly new to crochet I have yet to work on a project that carries the yarn this way, so I would just have to get confident enough to feel like I can do it! It would be helpful to add the wide, fold up band in the pattern. I hopped over to the video to see how you were handling the color changes, thankfully I had not yet seamed my 9 stitch band (per printed pattern). Starting over.

I need help. When I make the hat ribbong at the beginning of the hat , I measure to make sure it is a good length and fits well. Then I count stitches and put a single crochet in the end of each row. My problem is that to get the ribbing to be the length I need, I I end up with too many stitches for the body of the hat. I usually end up having to use a smaller hook than I would like to keep the body of the hat from being too big. Help!
