For many fans who were watching at the time it aired it wasn't much of a surprise as it was a long held fan theory that Chuck was God since he literally vanished into thin air at the end of Swan Song, and appeared seemingly from nowhere in the musical episode last season. Still gives me chills to watch it though, even though it was a confirmation rather than a shock. Brilliant episode.

Besides the vanishing, there were more hints they gave in Swan Song like the knowledge of the Impala & its previous owner & the army men & Legos Sam & Dean as kids played with in the Impala that were still stuck/wedged inside it. And the Mistress Magda reference in the same episode (Swan Song). Also, Kripke back in season 5 said that God would appear in some form prior to the episode airing. I remember people at the forums were going back & forth whether the Impala or Chuck was God since the Impala had God's light emanating from it tha distracted Lucifer & allowed Sam to regain control. But the Impala was just the object Chuck chose to shine his light from, much like he did with Dean's amulet in this episode. Plus Rob revealed it at a convention that happened in the summer after season 5 wrapped up & it was well publicized in the forums back then, so it was officially confirmed for like 5 years before they blatantly confirmed it here.

I don't think it was. We know Chuck zapped it into his (Chuck's own) possession somewhere down the line because he had it when he showed it to Metatron in the bar, but when we last saw it in Dark Side of the Moon, Dean threw it out and Sam left the motel room without going back to get it. It's possible that he did go back, but we don't really know. Chuck could've zapped/retrieved it back then and held onto it until he teleported it to Sam's pocket towards the end of this episode, which is how I always perceived it, but you could be right because Sam always had faith that God would help them. But I think it was likely not the case because it would've probably been lost in the cage if it was in Sam's pocket when Sam fell or Sam might've gotten rid of it during his soulless stint in season 6 or maybe even Gadreel would've done something to it when he had control of Sam. Cas had to rebuild/resurrect Sam's body after retrieving it from the cage (when he assumed he brought Sam back fully with soul & all), so any amulet in his clothes at the time would've either been left behind or Cas would've known about it and I'm sure would've said something about it to him or Dean. My thoughts are that Chuck held onto it until he sent it to Sam's pocket because I think Dean would've found out long ago that Sam still had it if it was in the pocket all along. Or maybe Chuck used his power to keep it hidden in the jacket until the right time, only temporarily removing it to show Metatron. I'd say it's unconfirmed at best.

In the actual script notes (people have purchased the script and posted parts of it online) it says outright that Sam has had it the whole time. My thought is that we didn't SEE when Sam left the motel room. So he very easily could have taken it then and held onto it. And when the plan for him to say "yes" to Lucifer was hatched, I'm guessing that he stashed it somewhere safe, like at Bobby's. Or it was still with his stuff and sat in Baby's trunk for a year and Dean just never had the heart to go through it all. Regardless, he got it back again when he got back from hell and just held on to it ever since. I do think he probably kept it in his memory box most of the time, but maybe sometimes he'd take it with him on hunts. Or maybe he always keeps it in his memory box as of this episode and Chuck zapped it from there into his pocket. But regardless, even before I saw this episode for the first time I wondered and hoped that Sam had kept it.

@@knightman718 We did not see Sam leave the room. Dean dropped the amulet in the trash on the way out the door as Sam watches. Sam is still standing in the motel room when it fades to black and the credits come up. So we actually didn't see him leave the room.

Sam had it the whole time. It is in the actual skript and i think the scene between the brothers said it all. Dean looked at Sam like: You kept it the whole time? And Sam confirmd it. Their acting is so nuanced and amazing. It blows me away every time.

With the tendency of things to get retconned under Andrew Dabb's running of the series when convenient to the plot, it makes me question and doubt everything and I would normally not consider what the script notes would say unless it was from the episode where Dean threw it out (Dark Side Of The Moon). But you did give a credible offscreen possibility so I could buy it in this case. Would've been nice to get a deleted scene where they showed it in a keepsake box of Sam's before Chuck zapped it to himself to show Metatron.

This has to be the best episode of the season, if not the best of the show, so many emotions and Rob Benedict's singing in the end can drive anyone to tears, well worth the wait Dakara. Rob's actually a singer in a real band called Louden Swain, btw, so no wonder he sings so well. I always thought Chuck was god since the season 5 finale, the ending where he narrates the story's conclusion, smiles and then vanishes just sold it to me so hard the idea of him being god that when this episode came around I had no doubts about it. Still, this episode is just too damn good, I don't even know how many times I've watched that ending with Rob singing. I have to say, since I begun to watch your reaction, every time something awesome happens the first thing that pops into my mind is "Oh god, I can't wait to se Dakara's reaction to this episode.", and I'm always pleased with the result, you never fail to deliver on your reactions. In fact, you inspired me to start Lucifer and I don't regret it one bit. Great reaction Dakara, as always, keep up the good work.

The big revelation of this episode just completely blew my mind. I loved this episode, I loved the dynamic between Chuck & Metatron & after all this time & everything he did it was actually Metatron that decided to say that humanity isn't perfect but they're worth saving. I once again got chills during Rob's singing during this episode. It's so beautiful and the episode is great as well. I currently watch the show from the beginning with a friend who sees it for the first time and one the last episodes we watched was "The Monster at the End of this Book" where we see Chuck for the first time and my friend was going on how great and meta this episode is. He does but he was being sarcastic since he knew nobody would believe it to be true. I do love that he said that though. Kripke did reveal to him that Chuck was God sometime in season 5 I believe (maybe when Swan Song was being filmed) because Rob revealed it to the fans at a convention the summer after season 5 ended. So us long timers to the series knew between all the hints in Swan Song & Rob's confirmation at that convention---it was just a matter of waiting for them to overtly show Chuck as God in the series.

It was obvious to me because I always saw Metatron objectively and how he loved God so much that it broke him when God left and he saw what Heaven turned into under Michael's authority and those who replaced him after Swan Song. So when Metatron read his father's (who was a hero to him) revised autobiography and had that concerned expression and paying attention to the lyrics, it was obvious what Chuck was planning on doing.

Back when this aired, I knew right when I heard the lyrics of Chuck's song and saw Metatron's expression to Chuck's new/revised book transcript that he was reading what Chuck was planning to do next. It was so obvious. That expression had nothing to do with any crush. When you see how broken Metatron was when God left, you can understand how much he loved his father and that concerned expression along with the lyrics is foreshadowing. I remember many fans had the same concern that Metatron showed back then after how long we had to wait for Rob's reveal in that post season 5 convention to materialize in the series itself.

Okay, first of all... "I think Metatron has a crush on Chuck." NOOOOOO! DAKARA NO! HE IS HIS *FATHER!* THAT IS GROSS! INCEST! AGH! (Though I guess this fandom is the one for Incest... Hahaha) Also. The last scene is still one of my favourites of the show. Chuck singing, Metatron reading the book and getting emotional, everyone being healed and brought back and all that. It's just beautiful to me. Rob's voice is amazing! I got to see him perform live, it was great! I went to a Con a few years back. Have two shirts signed by Louden Swain. Its great! I got to talk to Rob too. He was talking to me when I was in the cue for the autographs. Basically, I'm terrified of breaking the rules, and the people running the Con were all saying no pictures during the signing. But my Mum, and the lady in front of me, were both encouraging me to take them anyway, the lady offering to stand in the way of any security watching (the only one had just left the room) and Rob obviously heard, because he started encouraging it too and it was great! He's amazing! (I did get a few pictures. But they weren't very good because I was paranoid about getting caught...) I also adore the scene where Metatron is giving Chuck that speech about humanity. While I'll always be pissed at him for everything, that scene made me actually start kinda liking him.

I have to say, the song that chuck sang is just so fitting. Think about what happened in the final episodes and then think about the lyrics again. One of these mornings, it won't be long You'll call my name and I'll be gone Fare thee well, my honey, fare thee well It fits so well with what is going on through chuck's mind at that moment. Also, in some versions of the song the lyrics go "The woman I love is long and tall / She moves her body like a cannon ball", but Chuck's sings a perhaps more traditional version with "I've got a man who's long tall / He moves his body like a cannon ball" and I can't help to think about Sam when he sings that.

Hey keep in mind that it was stated that Amara is as strong as God if not stronger and Chuck himself said that it took the efforts of him and all his archangels to "barely" defeat and lock away Amara. Therefore him hiding from her kinda makes sense since all the archangels are dead save for Lucifer, who hates Chuck!

Something I enjoy of watching your reactions is well.. the blind reaction, I totally knew Chuck was god because that was a spoiler for me since I started watching the show after watching panels from cons and so I knew a lot of details like this, so haha I like to think what could have been my actual reaction to them. Chuck is the writer of this story so he is the god in this story and this show gets super meta and you have no idea how meta this show can get lol it makes my head hurt thinking about it, also... this type of stuff adds to that yummy rewatch value this series has, but yea this keeps happening so I would wait until you finish the whole show. This opens up so many questions and so many discussions about how this world works, with Chuck now talking about how he made the world, what he thinks, Amara, the supernatural books!, what about the apocalypse, the mark of cain, what was his role there? I love thinking about that stuff but at the same time my brain goes everywhere and it's a lot haha Chuck is the absent parent who abandoned his children and went and hide. He puts the blame on others, doesn't accept his mistakes and his responsabilities, locking up his problems (Amara) >.> Lied about the amulet. Oh and about the amulet, well since there's a lot of going back to the past this episode, I guess it makes sense to go back to that. The amulet was always all about the parental roles so yea. Metatron teaching god how to write is great, calling him out on his mistakes! who would have thought lol The thing with beings like God and the angels has always been that they don't posess the capacity to understand humanity's point of view. Chuck said it, he doesn't have a soul, and that's a struggle, he is just impartial about his creation, he doesn't see that his actions affect humans. So Metatron just began understanding when he became human and now he's even feeding a dog instead of himself! now he sees what Chuck can't, and he explains to him why humanity is worth it, like Cas. And Metatron before was just a Chuck wannabe, and was horrible at writting the story, and he also played with the characters so badly, but he's now the editor and that's good for him, I still hate him too of course lol but he has some redemption in the end. Now with the fog in the town there's the guy who killed himself that thought nobody loved him and was depressed, hey reminds you of Cas. But then they say that that wasn't true that his wife always loved her.. ajdsgdk mirrors. And there's also the cop who is being possesed basically by the fog, like how Amara controls Dean.

@@pepe-gfv2 I think throughout the series it only shows 5 Gabriel, Lucifer, Michael, Joshua, and Raphael. Pretty sure that Raphael was usually the one that would watch over the Prophets.

@Dakara Metatron isn’t having his ideal of god be crushed cuz he made it up cuz he literally did talk to him and knew him a bit cuz he’s God’s writer boy remember lol It’s just Metatron is disappointed and outraged by how God is acting letting his time as Chuck affected him so he wants more of the OG God btw Metatron isn’t a complete piece of shit he never was, he is very much egotistical and cares mostly about his own survival like how he helped the native Americans for their stories cuz he loves stories and to stay hidden. Then he saw how heaven was in a mess and how Cass was easy to manipulate so he used him to get revenge on the angels who wanted to use him ruining heaven then with the fall he was able to try fixing heaven in his favor letting that get to his head he tried to become God which he did try with the Angel Tablet showing us how corrupt and awful he could be with the power going to his head even trying to be praised by humans. Till he was stripped of his power yet this only made him bitter and hateful so he waited to get revenge which he was trying till he lost his grace. When he lost his Grace he became human which made him feel pain, real with issues humans have, seeing how hard it was for humans and having to deal with it made him feel more empathy eventually seeing the error of his ways now that he was powerless having the opposite affect that having power did to him. And now funny enough Metatron will try to save us all now trying to get through with God since he knows him and cares about creation hoping he will care again too. But yeah I hated him for the shit he did and he isn’t a good person yet he might redeem himself if he can get through to Chuck here Also Metatron wasn’t a coward as “God” like he even went against Dean with the mark and let Cass build an army, he was only a coward when he was a normal angel or when powerless so he’s right here But yeah this reveal for us and the boys was great, surprising, and impact lol Metatron helped saved the boys by convincing God aka Chuck on why Humanity was great and deserved to be saved. Curtis Armstrong is a great actor for sure lol

My predictions of that time Remember that time in Lucifer arc when Chuck was introduced to us He said I write about your lives like I'm a god or something A egoistic God He said the truth from the beginning 😂😂😂 and when he disappeared at the end of the arc I was sure of it And when Kevin appeared even more so Because one prophet has to die for another to appear chuck never died he disappeared and every prophet's name is imprinted in every angel's mind who can edit that? Answer God Then Chuck appeared in the school theatre supernatural episode In the mark of Cain arc Boom he's god of that I was sure
