In the opening scene it isn’t the sword that shoots, it was the pistol the guard was trying to to draw that discharged when the sword killed him.

I think Mal was a lot more stressed out here than when we last saw them. Part of the reason, I believe, is that the only two people besides River who weren't under his command, that he could talk things over with without that captain/crew dynamic, and both trained in one way or another as counselors, Book and Inara, were no longer on Serenity. They were people he could talk about anything without worrying about losing his authority. Now he's got everyhing bottled up inside...😮

The opening shot onboard Serenity is a one cut shot. They had to rebuild the Serenity set for the film so Whedon had it laid out on two sound stages. The upper deck from the Bridge back to the Engine room is one set and the lower deck from the Cargo Bay back to Medical is on the other. In this way, primary photography could take place on one set while the second unit could film on the other. The stairs are duplicated on each set. So, when Simon and Mal make the turn while going down the stairs is where the cut takes place. It is an impressive shot which makes the ship feel very real.

when the movie first came out back in the day, the teaser they released were just the first nine or so minutes of the movie (until the operative asks "where are you hiding, little girl") - no additional editing, just letting the movie speak for itself. by the time Simon got River out of her chair I was interested, by the time the director fell on the sword of the operative I was hooked, and I watched the entire show plus the movie the very next day.

Universal Studios got the rights form FOX to film Serenity. The name they wanted to call the movie was Firefly the Movie, but for whatever reason FOX wouldn't let them use the name Firefly.

I would highly recommend Whedon’s foray into Shakespeare with Much Ado About Nothing. It’s one of Shakespeare’s best and funniest comedies and Whedon did it entirely casting with actors he has previously worked with. I think you have now watched enough Whedon to appreciate the ridiculously stacked cast in it. Don’t anyone spoil it for her!

4:47 The guard was reaching for his gun on the inside of his jacket. He pulled the trigger and fired the gun while still inside his jacket after he got stabbed with the sword.

Your editing is a little choppy. You play setup lines, but then don't show the payoff like when Mal tells Sheppard he should tell him about that world.
