The notch is a great idea it don't make any noticeable difference in strength. But the varnish will more easily seal everything now, great work!

Thats the way i would do it. No way of it slipping out.

There is no need for it to key into the caps, it is there to stop the other vertical from flexing under compression, so just cut it so it slids down between the caps. What ever you do don't cut slots into the caps!

It will be fine. It,s all locked in with epoxy.

The rib drawing will show a dashed line into the cap IF vertical piece is to be notched. Used to have this problem with young designers who over thought, then became confused.

Please make sure your geodetic is more snug. You shouldn't hear that rattle as you tap on it... And it should take at least slight pressure to slide it in to position. I know it's a great deal of work but I actually set aside about 1/4 of my geodetic simply because it wasn't a snug fit in the slot.
