I've always wondered if the WOTW martians were the inspiration for the Daleks, I had an idea for a DW story a while ago where the Daleks invaded victorian london and ended up directly inspiring HG Wells to write WOTW

In the original daleks story, Terry nation intended for the daleks to be scientists who had their own culture,art, lives like gardening and shopping. Is there a lore reason for why the daleks became this, and then shifted back to what davros intended after the doctor first encountered them. And would you like for this original idea to be explored, like how asylum of the daleks introduced their idea of beauty.

Wholly agree, as much as I love the militaristic nature of the Daleks I would love to see a story explore Dalek life when they are not campaign with this original concept. Additionally I have a head canon that includes the old origin comic book. After the final nukes were dropped the original Kaleds mutated into the Daleks we saw on screen and kept parts of their original culture. Eventually the Daleks who were trapped in the bunker after the events of Genesis of the Daleks. Eventually made their way back to the surface with the Dalek Prime installing himself as emperor and kickstarted their mission to conquer the universe.

It's weird that Big finish have Benny stories but also seem to overwrite her existance. Anyway, justice for virgin/BBC books.

As far as I'm aware, the 8th Doctor BF audios don't contradict the books, apart from one or two inconsistencies - Storm Warning makes it clear that the Doctor has been travelling for a while since the events of the TV Movie, so it's possible that the 8th Doctor books happen before the Main Range 8th Doctor audios

@@dalekbumps EDA is a whole other can of worms, but I'm more referring to the VNA, where Benny comes from also directly follows Survival, so it's hard to know how to fit her and Hex, at leat with Ace being 35 by the time she leaves the TARDIS. I guess the main thing with the BBC range that they were not given as much respect as big finish in 8's regeneration speech. I’ve only listened to one story with Hex so far (The Magic Mousetrap) and he was deliberately out of character for much of that, I have seen more of Benny and thus have become warmer to her.

It honestly highly depends on what version of the Martians from WOTW the Daleks go against. The Jeff Wayne adaptation you mentioned, the Daleks would most likely win because of the Martian Technology being overall weaker than the Daleks. However, if the Daleks are put against the much more technological advanced aliens from the 2005 movie adaptation for example, aside from the fact they eventually die to bacteria, I honestly do think that the Daleks would have lost if put in a versus. Mostly because the Tripod weaponry is extremely powerful in that adaptation. I'd also mention the shielding the Tripods have but it'd most likely only work for projectile like weapons.

I'd give the 1953 movie version of the Fighting Machines a good chance against the Daleks as well, as in that movie the Americans drop a nuke on them and they remained utterly unaffected. Remove their vulnerability to bacteria and either movie version would at least give the Daleks a damn good fight. The Fighting Machines from the novel, Jeff Wayne's musical version and pretty much every other adaptation I've seen wouldn't stand a single chance due to their lack of shields.

there really is a lot of interesting match-ups between each adaptation -- of which i have to say that unfortunately the Jeff Wayne one is the most straightforward, since even though they are powerful, they're just too big, slow, and easily-destroyed (a single direct cannon hit is enough to totally destroy one of the machines), which makes it out to seem that the only reason normal human artillery can't deal with the tripods effectively is because of possibly being out-ranged and not being accurate enough due to the time period. even though the martians from the original novel might be the weakest in terms of firepower, i'm curious how things would go in a one-off battle (not a drawn out or large-scale conflict, where the daleks obviously have the advantage) since the fighting machines from the novel are much slimmer, nimbler, and faster than most if not all future adaptations which seem to make the fighting machines more "tank-like" in a sense -- kind of like the daleks most of the time, actually. the fight becomes a bit more nuanced than "who has the bigger and badder machine with death rays"

I would like to hear an audio where the renegade daleks appear in ancient Egypt after feeling from an imperial dalek ship and the renegade ship is completely damaged and crashed into the ground and the daleks alter history by manipulating the ancient Egyptians and viewing the daleks as gods but the seventh doctor leads the imperial dalek ship to earth and crashes into all the renegade daleks the Egyptians think this ship is evil because it destroyed the daleks so they built a giant pyramid to trap the ship and that pyramid would be known as the great pyramid of Giza. I think that would be a cool audio that needs to happen.
