Dale is now very Sri Lankan than anyone else. LOL, there was a guy like you in 16th century called Robert Knox , an English sailor, became so friendly with locals and decided to reside in Sri Lanka for a long time. He even has written a book called An Historical Relation of the Island Ceylon. Ya, it was a book coz they didn't have youtube at that time :). BTW, thanks for helping this Sri Lankan community who are involved in tourism biz.

@Ari Abend Asian people never thought that foreigners willing to eat hawker food. They always assume the white people will eat at high end restaurants and eat only western food. So, seeing someone like Dale eating at a hawker centre, they have a mini culture shock that someone other than them eating their kind of food.

27:45 no offence but if you’re expecting cheap, authentic Thai food in Chatuchak market you’re just looking in the wrong place. You could find better, cheaper quality food in the mall food court. No need to go around calling people scammers when you’re looking in the wrong places. It’s built for tourists and sadly tourists pay those prices cause they’re ignorant and won’t eat real Thai street food because it doesn’t look ‘pretty’

Agreed - also comparing the the noodles you eat in Malaysia to pad Thai is so culturally insensitive. Pad Thai is the national dish of Thailand and to make such comparisons when clearly it’s a different dish with a different flavour profile is pretty inconsiderate. Moreover, your Thai pronunciation of Chatuchak was pretty bad and watching your other videos of Thailand was confusing to see you half use English and half use Thai despite you clearly knowing enough to converse with market people (however tone wise was inaccurate).

Little tip: always use the other hand while handling the large spoon to pour in curry. The spoon is messed up if you use the hand you're eating with to do the job. It gets uncomfortable for other people to use it. It's actually a table etiquette here in the east. (Side note: You didn't leave any tip at the first restaurant.)

I would like to suggest you to visit the states of Kelantan and Terengganu which shares striking difference in their local Malay accent with other states in the Peninsular, which I affectionately call them the Scotland of Malaysia. Their Nasi Kerabu is nice!

Nah man, there's no tipping at all in Malaysia. It's a residential area I was in also, so it's not like he has an idea that he'll sometimes get tips from tourists. I think he was just being genuinely nice because he knew I genuinely enjoyed his food.

Ohh I am so glad you tried ABC (ice Katang), ABC is a little different, not so much chunky fruit! I love it! I said you would like it, a while ago 🙂 All banana leaf restaurants are the same as the one you went to. Only use 2 fingers and the thumb btw. Very good you only used your right hand to eat.
