The first of our "Nothing to Lose" Tutorials. ( If you want us to do more let us know in the comments )
5 steps to Marcotting. This allows you to create a new tree from the branch of an existing tree. By doing this you know that this new tree will produce the exact same quality of fruit as the parent tree.
Here are some plants that you could try this marcotting technique on:
Longans, Lychees, Magnolias, Jackfruit, Figs, Shahtoot Mulberries are all plants that you can Marcot
If we missed any please let us know.
The Longan mentioned in this youtube is the Kohala longan

The plastic bag is pure genius. I tried today to do this using plastic wrap and I needed 4 hands to keep the sphagnum from falling on the ground! Thankfully I watched this video and grabbed some bags and followed their advice and it was a piece of cake. Now...I’m hoping I did everything else right so it works but I know step one, covering the wound with damp sphagnum, worked like a charm.

Pre-packing the plastic bag like that, then cutting, is a very good option, much less messy than trying to fill some other container. I also wrap some cooking foil around to keep the heat and light out of the bag, plus makes for easy inpection

Terrific showing of techniques that require only the most basic materials. I feel confidant that I can do the same with one of my trees. But remember with grafted fruit trees you will not have the same root stock and this may require another step of grafting to get something like the original. Or you could perform this technique on a sucker from below the graft and then graft it once you have a healthy root system established.
