Yeah. Clayton was no jock but he had his moments. Clayton unlike jock always played a shinning night jock would do just as much black mailing and do whatever it took to win or make the deal and come out on top. Jock and jr shared that in common. A trait bobny lacked i loved bobby character too cause i like the thin line between the two. Such as when bobby gave up the company and gave it back to JR and telling him he could no longer wake up every day seeing what he was looking at in the mirrot. But even jock had a moral code and a line he would not step over. Admitting he taught jr every dirty trick in the book and how to always win but he never taught him when to stop and know when enough is enough the show had a brilliant writing cast thats for sure. First 6 seasons anyways especially the first 3. After jim davis/jock died the show was never quite the same

@Chemdawg2009 Жыл бұрын
@@twc3546 Actually, Jim Davis was already dead in real life by the time Howard Keel came on to play Clayton Farlow, near the end of season 4 but the show's producers didn't want to kill the Jock Ewing character off just yet and had the character in South America offscreen when the Sue Ellen/J.R. custody battle/divorce storyline played out with Sue Ellen running off to the Southern Cross with Dusty and Clayton protecting her and John Ross. I am pretty sure JohnBlack2345's assertion that Howard Keel was meant to play Jock Ewing as a direct replacement for Jim Davis is incorrect since Davis was unable to perform due to his terminal illness (multiple myeloma) and did not appear in the last two episodes of season 4. His character was kept alive off screen for the first 12 episode of season 5. As I said before, Davis died while the fourth season was still airing and Keel made his first appearance as Farlow during the fourth season, so he was never meant to be a replacement for Davis as Jock Ewing. In fact, the producers had already made the decision when Davis died that they wouldn't recast Jock Ewing with another actor and even considered leaving his name and photos in the opening credits for the duration of the series. As a Dallas native, I am glad they never recast Jock Ewing with another actor. Jim Davis IS Jock Ewing and no one could have played him like he did.

I loved JR and thought he could have been fine on his own show. However, I think the show jumped the shark for me when Farlow married Miss Ellie and suddenly a migration flow of every Tom, Dick and Harry was coming onto South Fork claiming to be a Ewing. Who wasn't a Ewing by then? I think around season 7 or 8 it should have ended because it got too silly and predictable. The Writers completely lost control of the script and the show just became a merry go round of Husband, boy friend and wife swapping-all on the same property of course with everyone still being friends and so understanding. Sorry, even though I took Drama and literary film study in college, not even my suspension of belief can go that far. Pam with Bobby, Jenna with Bobby, Jenna with Ray, Pam with Mark. It became the Melrose Place of the night time soaps. Everyone's screwing everyone else more than you would if there was a Swingers party going on at the ranch. Every time Writers don't have any real story lines or can't come up with any, they fall back on every body swinging from one sex partner with another. Yet, all that took place and no fire works, no fights? I mean really, come on. In real life people kill each other over things like that. NO one, especially Bobby, is non chalet about stuff like that. I think the producers punted on a lot of real life action that could have been used from how people really re-act when this kind of stuff goes on. But they kept it all composed and with everyone so polite and all this non-sense. People just aren't like that and the Writers really lost grip on some sense of reality when it comes to human behavior. I kind of stopped watching around season 7 or 8 but always stepped in just to watch JR do his thing. If TV is supposed to be as realistic as possible and you have them behaving so far from what real people do in certain situations in real life than its just impossible for me to watch and enjoy. It took JR and a bunch of other GROWN men 8 or 9 years to leave a house where they have no privacy and everyone is in their marriage business. I just find it old after a while. Just like the Cliff Barnes vs JR storyline. IT just seems to me a person is sick in the head if they can't move on from a guy they hate and get on with his life and realize he's not in JR's League. But I have the first 6 or 7 seasons on DVD. However, like most great shows, the first two or three years are always the best because they're new and the story lines are taking shape. I still say Dallas was a better show than Dynasty, although I watched both until the story lines got old and repetitive. I miss Larry. I watched him as a kid as Major Nelson. What a wonderful person that guy was. He will always be an Icon.

They Originally had planed for Wes to Really Be Jock. but Fans out cry at the time and outrage made them change their mind they didn't want someone else playing Jock. if you watch the whole Storyline.. you see hints come out that he really might be jock. as the storyline went on.
@radrobd7 жыл бұрын
That's not true. By the time, the season 10 episode premiered, the show had already filmed Steve Forrest's last episode, revealing Wes was a con. There was no fan outrage, at least none that prompted him to leave the show as he was already gone when his episodes aired.
@radrobd7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. When they first brought him on in season 9 as Ben Stivers, I thought he would turn out to be Jason Ewing, Jock's brother and Jack and Jamie's father.
@radrobd7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I thought that scene was an indicator that maybe Ben was Jason with a new face/plastic surgery because Jack got a strange vibe from him and the storyline was that Jack and Jason didn't get along.

@tombstone11118 жыл бұрын
I loved Steve Forrest but have to disagree about the mannerisms being the same or even close for that matter. Wes was a very polite and well mannered guy and Jock was very gruff and didn't take any shit from anyone. But yes, had they allowed Steve to study Jim Davis a little more, I do agree he would have been a great replacement. A great looking older man. Better looking than Jim Davis.

How ridiculous! I had not even known as a kid they had tried to bring back Jock! No wonder my family and I stopped watching after 1984. As if getting rid of Barbara Bel Geddes was not bad enough. The show was already going downhill....

I thought this made an interesting story and the actor was good. However, if he had turned out to be the "real Jock" I think it would have been an insult to the late Jim Davis. He made Jock Ewing come alive and the character died when Davis died.
