Thanks Richard. Late 1970's Jets home games blacked out. First time personally seeing, appreciating action.

1978 is also the first season they went to a 16 game schedule and was the so called modern era I remembered w the "last place" schedule and rotating every 3 seasons playing the teams in each division from the other conference except the last place team from the yr before as I mentioned.

Tony D It was rare when the Jets & Giants were on up against each other. Usually one would be on at 1 and the other at 4 if not the MNF game. Now the last few years they’re often on at the same time against each other

man, you said it. i was attending Saint Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco. as this broadcast shows, the 49ers are busy in detroit against the tigers and THAT is what i was stuck with. as an avid jet fan, i followed the raiders, and hoped for jets or patriots or bills.

Danny White was blamed for not getting the Cowboys to the Super Bowl but he didn't have quite as good a team as Roger Staubach. Especially on defense.

Yeah ok.....😂 Staubach was the Capt. Of the Navy baseball team batted 420. And also lettered in basketball at Navy so I don't know where you are getting your information.

A strange match-up in the late 70s,they rarely played each other back then. The great Aikman,Emmitt,Irvin team played the Jets in NY in '93 and I think one other time. Seeing the Cowboys at Shea Stadium is very odd,but interesting. I think this was the first year the Jets went to this all green helmet and jersey that they kept into the 1990s.

It is the first year of the all green helmets. This was the second and final time the Cowboys appeared at Shea to play the Jets. The Cowboys also faced the Jets back in 1975 at Shea

mjoven1975 Cowboys also came to play the Jets at the Meadowlands in 87 (during the replacement/strike games), in 1990 when they both were on the last place schedule from the year before and also 1993.

Jets went to these uni’s in 78 yes, 78-89 they wore these particular ones. Love the shade of green here along w the Jets “swoosh” on the helmet. From 1990-97 they went to a darker shade of green with a little black in the color scheme. Then in 1998 they went back to the Joe Namath era jerseys

interconference shown on cbs. nbc had afc games until the last game played with these helmets versus tampa bay in their new flag helmets in 1997. they won that. jimmy the greek talked athletic ability and its relationship to heredity before cbs lost the nfc. this is one wierd old broadcast. excellent copy for the day, if this is a private home edition. incredible!

ANY games with the Jets @ Shea Stadium would be appreciated Richard. I saw you had the 83 Rams vs Jets game that was a great one. How about Falcons @ the Jets from 83? Jets blew a 21-0 lead in that one in the 2nd half. Billy WHITE SHOES Johnson returned a punt for a TD & Atlanta kicker Mick Luckhurst puts them ahead late w a FG & mocks the Marc Gastineau sack dance.

I haven't heard too many games where Tom Matte was the analyst but, here he was great. He was ahead of his time. I don't think a lot of analysts were very bright back then.

Fair to argue that most analysts of the period were day drinkers & were proud to be drunk on air. Made the experience worthwhile for viewers.

Very great to see this game. This was the first year of 16 games. Too bad Staubach wasn't the game. Where was he? Thanks for including the commercials. That brings back even more memories and makes it very realistic. I especially remember the Alcoa theme song and Alcoa can't wait slogan.
@survivor50445 жыл бұрын
The Cowboys most likely had nothing more to gain going into the playoffs. As a precaution, they decided to keep Roger out this game. One other thing, I'm glad the Alcoa commercial wasn't blocked because this has happened in the past.

Roger had several injuries during the season, including 2 concussions. He would get another one in the Atlanta playoff game. Had they needed him, he could have played. Check out that Atlanta playoff game in 1978. Roger got knocked out, and Danny White came on in relief. It's a classic! It's on youtube. Peace

Septien was one of the pioneers of "soccer style" field goal kicking
@comfortat Жыл бұрын
Um... not really. Pete Gogolak was the first, then Stenerud and Yapremian made it famous on good teams. Those are the pioneers. Toni Fritsch preceded Rafael as the Cowboys' first "sidewinder." That said, Septien was good, and he was in the first generation where almost every team used this style.

This was when the Jets were still at Shea Stadium in Queens NY. They moved to the Meadowlands in 1984 but get the point haha. Shea was located right off of Flushing Bay & LaGuardia airport so with a open stadium you had brutal winds for those Nov * December games plus the constant airplanes going over the stadium every 7-10 minutes.

Staubach was injured the prior week against the Eagles. It was actually a meaningful game, as a Cowboys win with a Rams loss would have given Dallas the #1 seed in the playoffs. The Rams won though, so they got the #1 seed.
