Reading through these comments and knowing how Jim loved being on DALLAS, I bet that he would be so honored that we like him and remember him so much. That's the power he gave DALLAS fans.

Mr Peppermint and Punk felt for Bobby, while ol' JR sits there and gloats. Scenes like this are why Jim Davis was so beloved as Jock. No one else could have ever played Jock after Davis passed away. No one.

When Jim Davis passed away suddenly, a lot of the spark went out of "Dallas". It was never quite the same again. They brought in Howard Keel, and he's a good enough actor. But making him Ellie's second husband just never seemed to quite "cut it".

Bobby is clearly Jock's favorite son. Even though he chews him out for calling him out in front of his buddies, you can see how it bothers him immediately after and into the next day. He would never feel that way if it had happened with JR or Gary. But then, JR and Gary would never dare to face down Jock and not back away. Such a powerful scene about father/son relationships.

Very memorable, iconic scene, I'd be very surprised if Patrick Duffy didn't pee himself while having to go face to face with Jim Davis giving him television's most intense crazy-eye to this day........ but it's not clear what Jock's message is here other than, "Screw me out of the company and it's all your's son!"

Also, after that showdown with Bobby and Jock sits back at the table, the rest of that little hangout had to be awkward as hell....... just Jock sitting there pissed off, the other two looking like they just witnessed a train-wreck and JR sitting there looking like Publishers Clearing House just showed up at his door. Here's the unseen dialogue from the rest of that meeting.... (long silence) JR: "So how bout them Dallas Cowboys?!?" Jock: "Shut up JR." JR: "Yes daddy....." (more long silence)

I worked for a guy whose father made him take over the family business, though the dad still wielded power long after allegedly retiring. I think he was given a cut of the gross or net income to subsidize his lifestyle. He lived in a swanky suburb and traveled regularly but business was in the old man's blood.
