How about the producer of a video appreciate the time of the viewer. I clicked on the video to see how to clean aluminum boxes, not listen to him go on and on and on and on about how to make a little extra on a detail, a list of the most popular trucks people drive, or contemplate what a toolbox costs for the back of a truck (or if he buys them or not). The guy talks too much, he needs to get to the point.

He can get a tad wordy at times, but his approach is to give the underlying concepts and philosophies for those who are thinking of starting their own detail business. He often a wealth of information as well as the mindset behind even an apparently simple procedure to show the attitude of success is about understanding the process and the materials and substances one is using to get to a professional, efficient level that saves time and efforts, but gets great and lasting results without cutting corners.

Scott, another way is to "flash" the aluminium (as you did) and then rinse the box off to get the residue off. For my water it is a PH of 8-9 to bring the acid back towards neutral. I then hit the box with a purple airway buff and a brown rouge, this will take out any scratching around the checker plate. After that i use a white liquid polish that has a sealer in it and either hand apply or use something like you have with the flitz buff. Good video and yes when you mention wheel brightner to people they react like you poked them in the eye. I use it often because in the 20-30 second flash you can erase years of crap off that aluminium and it makes it SO MUCH EASIER to polish, and not as dirty for you.

I just polished my stock aluminum f150 rims and I used napa aluminum brightener to remove the brake dust and crud on the inside of the rims and just 2 coats with agitation removed all of it. It's great for getting a good base to start from. Once I removed the clear coat and sanded the mill marks out up to 600 grit. I polished them with a variable rotary with airway buffs and brown/green compound. They turned out great for my first time with a mirror finish.

I'm a fan of etching the aluminum before polishing. I just bought a $400 used box for $100 and cleaned it up with a power washer and took a wire wheel to tile grout that was splattered here and there inside and out because the previous owner was a tile guy. My next step is to acid etch it but I don't have any acid based wheel cleaner at the moment. After I etch it I will use Mothers Aluminum polish and a buffing wheel on a drill and it will shine like a mirror. Good video but I already knew what you conveyed.

Why you going ACROSS the checkered raised parts?? You need to go IN-LINE with them as to contact the most of the lower surface. Go one way- 45 degrees from the edge in this case. Then again 90 degrees from the first sweep. That way you'll contact more surface.
