Mosquito fish are just hardier versions of guppies and endlers, but what makes them standout is that they are very temperature tolerant, something that endlers and guppies lack.
@Green-Hoe Жыл бұрын
only downside is they’re very aggressive towards other species and are fin nippers
@kenjiro2676 Жыл бұрын
@@Green-Hoe yeah I’ve learned about that recently in a US native fish group, mosquito fish are little assholes.

Hello, have you sold off yet? Looking to breed color into the Gambusia.
@famousamos6 жыл бұрын
They're a little bit bigger than the guppies right? The females look pretty similar to guppies
@EastAllenAquatics6 жыл бұрын
Woojong with the Word they're very similar. But native tibthe US. I'd say they are a bit bigger. Especially the females
@TCS_Aquatics7 ай бұрын
These are very interesting to me, do the males retain that coloration always? It doesn’t breed out over time?
@EastAllenAquatics7 ай бұрын
I have not kept them for a long time now, but I never saw the coloration diminish unless you interbreed them with the non-Melanistic variety. The key is keeping the females only with the melanistic males

Can the hybrids survive over winter in frozen ponds?
@EastAllenAquatics6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Greenlese no I think 40-50 degrees is the cap for these fellas
@TheShmeebitdog6 жыл бұрын
There are videos showing hybrids of guppies and minnows in ponds surrounded by snow water not quite frozen yet but in the 30’s but good to know maybe it will take more then one generation bread to female minnows
@EastAllenAquatics6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Greenlese the ponds may be heated
@TheShmeebitdog6 жыл бұрын
True but some commented that the water temp was in the 30’s but idk I’m a noob I just want some nice colorful fish for my out door pond and don’t just want typical goldfish and koi
@EastAllenAquatics6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Greenlese maybe the western mosquito fish can handle that. But don't let it freeze up

We figured out how to eradicate mosquitoes on our aquaponic farm entirely by accident. There's a comment below that says "disappointed when you said you weren't sure if the fish had made much of a difference.....". Well, they will. IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH! If the mosquitoes weren't eradicated, and I mean ERADICATED, not just "less of them", then it was because Mr. Mythic Guitar Company didn't have ENOUGH of them! Here's a Word document that explains how to completely get rid of mosquitoes forever. And just incidentally? It makes FOOD as a by-product. We live on a 7-acre farm in the tropics and have NO mosquitoes! None. There's a free 2-page download on this page that explains how this works: www.friendlyaquaponics.com/eradicating-mosquitoes-aquaponic-farm/ With Warm Aloha, Tim
