Very interesting episode Brad, so very expensive and time-consuming. Seeing that amount of damage would be enough to wear anyone one down. Better luck for the upcoming year to the whole team. Have a great Christmas.

I’ve been asking for years to do a documentary on how a car is built from go to whoa it wouldn’t be hard I watched every bit of Kelly Racing doing the Altima to Mustang build and it was cool I remember F1 had a video from the 90’s from Williams called Cutting Edge that was interesting too..

Over the off season, is it possible you could do a suspension settings video that shows us the adjustments that can be made on the cars?

Brad I could see by the wall thickness that the (destroyed!) control arms are CrMo by the wall thickness. Is the main car structure and the front & rear clips also CrMo or are they CDW steel to keep costs down? Just wondering how you get on repairing if they are CrMo as it doesn't take kindly to being re-welded. Thanks for sharing.

How come the welds on the chassis/frame look like it’s just a heap on tack welds close together? Does it change form fabricator to fabricator or part of the design of the chassis?

@Blake-ih7nq looks like a stack of dimes tig ,the tubing would chromoly I would think?
@bena68523 күн бұрын
They are mig welded, and that's what they do one hot tack after the other
@fulltimber3 күн бұрын
Hi carbon steels used for this are getting lighter and lighter, obviously to reduce weight, but all done to supercar specs. Yeah, the welds don't look too flash either. Many oval track sprint car chassis' are made China these days, hope supercars haven't starting doing that yet.

Shame about the cost but all those broken and deformed parts have absorbed a lot of energy

All the engineering that goes into designing the cars “ stopping cars we use concrete blocks After all the years racing in Adelaide, no engineer has come up with an absorbing rail that goes in front of the blocks’ even better if it’s manufactured out of some of the used racing tyres

is there literally 1 good part left even on the chassis? incredible financial hit to have a written off car I am sure but gosh that thing is a mess from this brief walk through.

@psk57463 күн бұрын
Just imagine how money they could save if they stopped w-nking around with unnecessary carbon fibre. They don't seem to understand that the metal chassis supplies the strength so there is no need for carbon fibre panels, just for looks and to burn money
@rhettcorbett33463 күн бұрын
Knowing how you like a joke . You should make up a bill to for all the Parts , Labour etc & present it to Jackson at the start of next Season.
@ErewhonGB3 күн бұрын
Depends on what sort of deal he's on as he might get the bill anyway. Dan Lloyd in the BTCC got a 90k plus bill from his team when he crashed. He has to go to a cheaper team the next season and then to a different series. Lots of drivers in high profile series have to foot their own damage bills.

I’m well aware of the costs involved in materials and time in these chassis but this fully fabricated cage and clips business just seems ridiculous. I might be old school but isn’t this construction method supposed to Lower costs? It’s all too fragile in my opinion and it’s lost the huge following. Import the road car shells and build them like the old days with engines and gearboxes where they are meant to be.
@The_Evil_Monkey_933 күн бұрын
Well this was a major impact. In the COTF days where you had thicker rails etc you'd push the damage into the firewall and it would all have to be cut out anyway regardless. the idea of the detachable subframes is if you have a mild impact you can chop it off and replace. This wasn't just a mild impact.
@phelanpawly25073 күн бұрын
@ it sure wasn’t but that corner claimed many gen 1 cars leading up to the corner being redesigned. My point is a full bodied car could be put on a jig and pulled straight again instead of completely refabricating cages and clips. If Brock and Moffat were in a VK as a current car they would never have started on the grid next day. The front was destroyed by Moffat at Skyline in practice. It was put on a chassis bench and straightened and it looked like new. All done by Warrener and the apprentices. Unless you have multiple engineering degrees you wouldn’t be allowed near a current gen car. McConville took the right rear 1/4 and boot off the DJR car in 93 and 20 minutes later the car was circulating again. Can’t happen these days.

When it comes to turn 8 at Adelaide, there's 2 types of drivers, those that have wrecked there and those who are still to do so. It has claimed some bloody good drivers over the years. Better yet you go show them how it's done, given you have offered your expert opinion.
