Damascus Dagger from Fishhook

Damascus Dark Gold Blade from 700 Fishhooks
The fishhook is made of high carbon steel with nickel plating on the surface
Steel powder 1095+4% nickel (tiny particles)
Regarding the color, it is formed by tempering at 220 degrees Celsius. Actually straw or antiqued brass. Dark gold is just a gimmick. The color formed at around 220 degrees Celsius does not cause the blade to lose its hardness like blue does.
Why only blades?
The reason was that the finish of the blade was not to my liking, my first attempt at hollow grinding and it was very difficult (if you've tried it you know.) There is a slight asymmetry on the left and right sides. and cannot be repaired. It's hard to see in the film, not that I didn't want to show flaws. So only blades.

No expert here but from what I watched and learned from speaking with other forge master and forgers like yourself. You might want to go a little less aggressive on the press. That is why you got those cracks in your steel. Those are some sweet grind lines and hips on that blade. *Italian Kiss of Approval. * But how did you get that golden tint in the metal?

I'm no professional black or bladesmith, but I have a feeling a lot of your cold shunt issue derives from how extreme you are with the press. You can see the heat removed when you go with the massive presses. Maybe more heats to consolidate might eliminate the issue. But what do I know.

You’re developing those cracks because you’re pressing it to much with you hammer.m when you form the steel. Pace yourself and make small adjustments at a time.
