If WWE was my baby for the next year, here’s what I would do: CM Punk wins the Rumble and main events Mania (that’s the thing that’s eating him up, let’s give it to him), he wins the World Title… Cena is on his retirement tour, they have a match for the title (they had a habit of putting on damn good matches back in the day, let’s have another one)… Cena wins and is the record 17 time World Champion. He then drops it to… Damien Priest. His feud with Balor and JD will be over by then and he can move back into the title picture, Cena puts him over clean and Priest will always have that under his belt. El Campion returns to his throne. I would also look at Cena being the IC Champion for a brief period, I believe it’s the only title he hasn’t won… I’d do that near the start of the year, give him that hunger to go for number 17, lose it to someone like Bron Breaker, someone who has the ability to dominate a past-his-prime Cena, something for him to have under his belt… this is an opportunity for a lot of guys to be part of the Cena Retirement Tour, hopefully he puts a few other deserving guys over along the way. Maybe Punk decides he wants to bring Cena’s tour to an early end (“I main evented Mania but all everyone is talking about is John Cena”) and challenges him to a title vs career match at Summerslam, but Cena wins it to keep the tour alive, Priest wins a number 1 contender’s match for the next PLE and goes on to defeat Cena. That’s how I would book the World Title/Cena Retirement Tour anyway. But like you, I want to see Damien Priest get that strap back.
