I have listened to this song for the last 5 years. It gave me the courage to get out of a relationship that was poison to my soul. It gave me the strength to move on. it gave me the strength to face my insecurities. To this day i listen to this specific recording and it lets me know that everything is going to be ok. No matter how dark it gets. Dare i say this song helped save my life when I felt that my life had no value. If nothing else, Damien Jurado, this song kept a human being alive on this planet. I was just listening to this song and happened to notice that I commented on it 3 years ago. I was going through a really tough breakup and one of my best friends had just died as well. The original comment said that Damian is the best heartbreak music. 3 years later I can confirm that he is some of the best music for when you're genuinely happy too.

Not every song has to be very technical to be good. If these are considered unoriginal lyrics, then frankly I don't think it's possible to be entirely original in music. To me, they sound very personal, raw and simple in a good way.
