I've noticed that all of Damien Rice's songs seem to link in some way, in Elephant he says 'do you still forget the breeze?' in reference to The Blowers Daughter, and in this song he says 'that delicate look on your face' in reference to Delicate, along with countless little tidbits that are featured in all of his songs. All his music is a tragic story line that so fluidly connects with everything he sings, every single song is in some way about the same thing- his heartbreak. Damien you genius.

And does he drive you wild? Or just mildly free? This is a reference to The Box formerly known as Wild and Free. The genius of this references is that it doesn't matter which songs came first. He had it all in his mind. Welcome to Damien Rice's Lyricverse

@@DressedRunner thanks for bringing up that the Box used to be called Wild and Free, I didn't know that before. I looked up the original recording and it gave me goosebumps. I wasn't super into The Box before, but I'll definitely be listening to it more often now!

This song made me cry so many times that I won't count. Love is the greatest source of our happiness, but also the deepest meaning of pain. Relating to these lyrics is masochistic... But it's so true.

I met Damien Rice and week and a half ago at his show in Washington D.C and I still cannot believe it! He has really beautiful eyes! Hands down the best show I've been too, especially when he invited people on stage to sing backup for him..at least 200 people rushed the stage and he only asked for 30 people lol what can you expect? Also discovered a new favorite, My Bubba who opened for him! LOVE YOU DAMIEN! Accidental Babies is a abdolute favorite!

I saw him last week on PBS do a performance with Joan Baez for her 75th anniversary performance in NY. He belted out an Irish ballad, accompanied himself with an instrument I've never seen before and Joan joined in with vocals and acoustic guitar. The two of them gave a masterpiece performance of that ballad. The first pieces I fell in love with were Accidental Babies, Cheers Darlin' and The Animals Were Gone, which I heard on Last FM some years ago. I envy you for seeing a live performance. Must have been extraordinary! So much talent !

I don't know what it is about this song, but it touches something inside everytime I listen to it. The lyrics are so intimate, and bold, and raw. They are like that last hot and sad caress before everything is over, when there's no hope, just despair.

Genius is a word which is thrown around far too often to describe slightly above average these days. NOT in the case of Damien Rice. One of the greatest writers and most emotive vocalists and musicians of our time. Total GENIUS

Its the rawness and passion that he has brought to this song through the clever lyrics that makes it so incredible.. I wish a certain someone would play this to me, he is dark enough and Im just waiting for him to be ready to see my light again, i miss his smell, hes the only one thats ever been brave enough to stand up to me, and with him is the only place i ever felt i belong, the only place I felt alive...

WOW! This is such an incredible song. It's one of those songs where you just close your eyes and take it in and even if you're not the type of person to ever be in a similar situation, you understand and you feel it. You breathe his desperation and can feel how crazy this is driving him. Asking all these questions about their other lover and if they make them feel the same as he does. He doesn't want to settle for anything less than the love he feels for them, but they're not sure they feel the same. I love how the song ends with him almost whispering "For we are in love" because in that alone you can hear his plea and need to be with this person. I also love this song because never once does it cross my mind that it's terrible that they're both cheating on their others. But instead I focus on what a beautiful thing they could have.

One of the most beautiful songs stemming from one of the most vile betrayals one can commit...even though this is a song dedicated from one adulterer to another, it moves the heart in amazing ways, much like most of Damien Rice's music.

Knowing now who this song was for - Lisa - it bothers the HELL out of me for him telling her to go! He tore her world apart - apologized after, but she has moved on and will NEVER forgive him! It makes it ALL sadder, I have a feeling that no matter how beautiful he is and sounds he could be quite the bastard to love and be with! I suppose that's what makes his music even sadder than his soul tearing words! I still weep with this song - I think we ALL have THAT person this is sung for!

This song is so amazing, I don't usually comment on videos, but I got dumped 3 months ago, and I was in my car yesterday and this song came on my ipod and I started crying within the first 10 seconds, and couldn't listen to the whole thing as the tears got in the way of my eyes and I couldn't see. It brings back all the emotion I feel for my ex, and how, no matter how hard I try to get over her, I still love her, but i have to accept that she does feel alive without me. I love you

Also on 'Amie' "Just another soldier on a road to nowhere" in reference of 'Lonely Soldier', in 'Blowers Daughter' "colder water" in reference of 'Cold Water' also vice-versa at 'Cold Water' "no one's daughter" in reference of 'Blowers Daughter', then 'The Rat within the Grain' "So go play with your piano write a mediocre song" in reference of 'Unplayed Piano'... love them all!
