Another important point is to keep your board level side to side. A common mistake is to allow the board to lean into the wind before you launch. You want all the foil lift straight up the mast will provide the side forces needed to counter those from your wing.

Thanks for posting these!The analogy of skipping a stone resonates with me most. I prefer small skips and wing pumps to get some forward speed first and gradually accentuate until on foil. Usually because the wind often completely flops around here on the sub 10knot days. If you always poor on the horsepower you'll tire out quickly. You don't always have to rocket out of the water, once the board clears the water surface and can build appearent wind, youre laughin! I love this sport though, everyone has their own style and techniques 🤙Very interested in playing around with flatwater paddle ups.. maybe "no paddle paddle ups" if I ever get good enough like Gwen 😂

Starting to look into wing foiling, because there's less and less wind on the lake where I live so windsurfing is getting to be a chore. One thing that would be great would be if you could specify the wind speed, sail size (looks like a 9 here), board volume (vs your weight) and foil/stabilizer sizes, so we can get an idea of the gear we need to do this. Subscribed to watch some more 👍
@DamienLeroyYouTube

This is a 6m wing, wind was probably around 7-8 knots. Board volume and foil size depends a lot on body weight and skill level so it’s hard to say if this setup works for me, it will work for you. Here the board is 100L, foil is 940 cm2.

very nice video I am a begginer and I loved wing foil from the moment I saw it so I am having lessons and I ve bought my own equipment. The person from the store is a wing foiler and I told him to choose for me foil and I saw in a video that for a begginer is a very good choice to choose Cabrinha foil. So, after I will learn better, I will use my own board I ve choose Cabrinha Code 2022, 98 liters (my weight is 59kilos) and the seller have choosed for me 90cm, 1300cm. What's your opinion about the foil.... Should I change anything? Can you tell me please advantages and disadvantages? I want to keep the foil in the future and the board ànd not changing equipment.....

Thanks, great video, but I couldn’t find any videos about wingfoil pump technique in choppy or wavy conditions. I feel like my pumping technique is slowly starting to work in flat water. However, in conditions with waves, it’s much harder. Either the wave comes from the side and disrupts my balance, or it goes under the board and destroys my won height, or it passes me from behind and kills my speed. Are there any techniques for these conditions?

On the timing of the arm scoop and leg pump: why not pull in/down on the wing while unweighting the board? Hang your weight on the wing while the board is lifting. Then raise/recover the wing while legs are pushing down on the board?

GR8 video thanks. So how can I choose between the SAB 980 and the 1350 for super light wing foiling . I currently have the SAB 945 and love it as an all-rounder but really want to do more light wind wing foiling. Which is easier to pump up and which one will glide through the lightest wind . I am an experienced Kite foiler for years but only intermediate wing foiler. Thanks ~ Paul

The 980 is half the size of the 1350 Leviathan, 940 cm2 Vs 1890 cm2, so the 1350 Leviathan is gonna be much better in light wind: wingfoilprocenter.com/products/sabfoil-1350-leviathan-kit-for-pumping-and-light-wind-winging?_pos=1&_psq=1350&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Very, very helpful! I'm sure I'm now doing "up, less up" pumping. I can't wait to get out again and give this a try. I don't have a narrow DW board. I weigh 80 kg. To start learning this technique, would you recommend I use my 6'5" by 32" wide 125 board? or my 5'8" by 29" 102 board? How about my 2140 4 AR foil or my 1440 8 AR foil? Probably my 6M wing rather than the 8M. Thank you!

Very different, 980 razor is half the size so it’s much faster and turns much better. But the 980 razor still has a really good low end and can’t handle pumping really well

Any comments on applying this same technique to short wide boards? I haven’t tried the dw boards yet. I’m still learning on short board (5’3” long 105L inflatable) I’m doing OK pumping up bit still feel I put a good 40% pressure into the back leg. More when pumping through lulls.

Any thoughts on pros and cons of bigger or smaller wings for light winds? I see that Gwen is using a 6m here, but I’ve seen people pumping up 4m wings in light winds too. My own experience since getting a dw board is that smaller wings are a lot easier to pump and somehow seem more effective, although I haven’t tried a lot in light winds yet.

I find 6 meter small for light wind (80 kg). Pro's are able to use small wings in light wind. Earlier I had 7 and 8 meter wings. Now biggest wing is 6.5 meter. Have fun on the water!

Bigger wing is easier getting on foil. When on foil, smaller wing can be quicker because of less drag.
