If we all liked the same music, creativity would die, it is our love for different things that makes us human, I have albums by many bands who I cannot get into, for me much of the Japanese metal justs fails for me, I cannot read their emotions from the vocals, it is part of my ASD. Spiritbox are one band I really enjoy Courtney has a beautiful voice, even when she pushes into the harsh vocals, it makes sense. I have been single for 13 years now and have no interest in a relationship any more (mainly for health reasons) I have a lot of fantastic friends who I value far more, big love Bro

This song along with Rule of Nines is what really got me into Spiritbox. And yeah, Sleep Token is not my jam either. If you want to do more Spiritbox, I would HIGHLY recommend The Mara Effect Live at Silverside Sound. It is a 3 part song all played one after another, and IMO is one of their best works even though it came out 4 years ago.

Rule of nines is also a banger you should check out! Belcarra is my favorite Spiritbox song because I like their heavier stuff. Cellar door is a sludgefest of heaviness. So many great Spiritbox songs.

Hey dude. Recently got into your channel and been going through your catalog. Spiritbox is an all time favorite so this was a no brainer to watch. As a side note though, I very much appreciate your thoughtfulness and discussions about these songs translating into our day to day lives. Love me some Spiritbox, glad you took the leap. I don't rate all their stuff (Secret Garden, for instance, does nothing for me), but when they hit they absolutely annihilate it. I love the complex music with Courtney's incredible vocals, she has a particular tonality that really hits hard, and her scream is to die for. They have a lot of great stuff, Rule of Nines is one of my faves, and is the track that got me into them, it's worth doing both the video for that and the one take vocal performance that they put out. In fact she's done a one take of Holy Roller too which is wonderful. "Circle with Me" is a lot of folks' favourite, and it's a great track (plus there's a one take...blah blah). Constance will make you cry....it makes me cry every time and it's a truly devastating track, beautiful, powerful but it will likely break you, particularly if you have anyone in your life with dementia. It's all clean singing tooo.

I’ve never seen this Instagram thing but I assume she is young. I say let her be. Kids have inherited such a shit world if this gives someone an once of enjoyment I’m all for it. When I was a kid I based my personality around a show called Parker Lewis can’t lose. Much more stupid than sleep token. Let them have fun. What a great and thoughtful reaction. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If it’s of any interest, regarding her lyrics (which rightly or wrongly, strike me as having a darkly metaphorical, poetic style), Courtney has said that they are variously written with autobiographical elements, or else imagining the viewpoint or experience of another person (or various combinations of these) and she’s happy for listeners to interpret them in whatever way they find most helpful to them. However, she has said about this one that it refers to her own long-term struggles with anxiety and depression (which she is very open about), and the “husband” in the video represents those troublesome emotions and beating them (but note how he’s still there in the background at the end, despite being “killed” in multiple ways in the video). Several of their music videos, like this one, were produced by Versa Films - Dylan Hryciuk, a good friend of the band, who is rather talented (not that my opinion is important!). In relation to what you mention later, it’s perhaps interesting to note that Courtney has been married to Mike Stringer, the guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and co-founder member (with her) of Spiritbox since 2016, having been engaged since 2012 or so. They’d met and become friends and then a couple some time between 2007 and then. From everything I’ve seen and read of them, they are an incredibly close, devoted and mutually supportive couple - exactly what one would wish for them, as they seem to be really lovely people.

I can honestly say that I can't listen to a Sleep Token album all the way through, but I do think they are good at what they do. I think that bands like SleepToken and Spiritbox are great gateway drug to heavier music, and I have found myself recommending both bands to people at my job that inquire about the music I listen to. On a side note. I have never choked on Spiritbox, they always go down so smooth.

Duude, you had me cackling through that intro. I was running a metalheads group for singles at one point and I noticed this clique that were into horror, goth, skulls, wearing black etc, which is all fine if you are that type of person but it reminded me of highschool. If you weren't into those things you just weren't cool enough and I felt that there were some that were putting up a pretense of being into those things. Maybe I'm oversensitive about it but as the leader of the group I didn't want to see anyone feeling shunned, which I think was happening to some extent. I wanted our group to continue being inclusive and accepting of all types. I guess fashion and trends promote the idea of trying to 'be' part of a certain group. We can only hope that as we all mature and grow we become more our authentic self. Loved the reaction too. Big love :)

Oh, and to follow up my other comment; I believe Courtney wrore this song at least partially about struggling with anxiety and other mental health issues ("I could survive in these chemicals for you"), and the video was somewhat inspired by A Handmaid's Tale.

I hate saying any band is boring, but Sleep Token just does not hold my attention for very long. I think it's just that there are certain elements of their music that I can go to other bands for, and have a more fun experience that way rather than settling for a solid B in every area. That being said, I've known people who absolutely adore them and I'm glad they have something to dig into! Random recommendation of the day: Orden Ogan - "Gunmen" or "The Things We Believe In". If there's any band that hooked me from the moment I heard them, Orden Ogan was and still is that band. Every album of theirs has an overall "theme" and a story they tell throughout the course of the album. (I'm also an extra in their video for "Inferno" for about 2 seconds at the very end, haha!)

I totally agree with you about Sleep Token. They have a couple of songs that are fine, but I consider them to be a gateway to better music for younger (or should I say inexperienced) listneners of heavy stuff. I am sure I would have loved them in my teen years. I don’t mean that disrespectfully. We all make an evolution in our music taste, so that’s fine. More power to them. I feel slightly similar with spiritbox. My main problem with them is their sound. It’s far to polished, at least what I have heard. But I can really appreciate some of their songs, got some on my playlist. More power to them as well.

Sleep Token is most definitely overrated! Not a fan at all so I'm with you on that one bro! Next Spiritbox reaction should most DEFINITELY be Courtney Laplante's live one take of "Circle With Me" seeing how she can switch back and forth from such an insane guttural scream to her clean vocals back to that crazy scream in the same line and she even does it in the same freaking word, but seeing her do it live is bananas! So look for the Courtney Laplante of Spiritbox live one take of "Circle With Me" and I promise you won't be disappointed brother! I did the same thing as you did for a relationship in hopes it would change and her better. I quit playing bass and sacrificed who I was only to get constantly berated and verbally and physically abused by my ex wife who has borderline personality disorder and she refused to get help. The straw that broke the camels back was her cheating on me. But now I'm back playing music in a thrash/hardcore band with the ex drummer of Agnostic Front and after 18 years of not playing music I feel like i'm finally getting the old me back. Unfortunately my ex wife developmed a heroin addiction and passed away in 2017. Awesome reaction as always!

As a sleep token fan as you can see by my name 😂 I totally understand bro. I really hate that tik tok is turning sleep token into one of those sexual bands. Their music to me is beautiful and heavy at times. They throw in that smooth r&b or jazz it gets steamy imo 😂 but to post the videos and have these goth chicks do that is just to me a disgrace to what their music is. Idc if someone does or doesn’t like them because they are a lot to take in. I like them because they fit my ADHD, they always changing the sound and that is my thing.

Spiritbox is my entry and favorite band of this genre. The screams are fitting for each song. Not agro or just "there," which I find annoying. Oh, and as far as appropriation? Duh. Too young to remember the "grunge" lifestyle-- clothing Soundgarden and Nirvana bought at Goodwill-- being sold at top dollar at JCPenney and NY catwalks? Elvis stealing from Little Richard? Nothing new. Move along.
