I have a friend exactly like this. I meet up with him every now and then and he just makes up random lies up whenever we have a conversation. He mixes fantasy with nuts of truth. “When I left the military” I.e where he kept failing the seal test (which is not shameful) but then was kicked out permanently from trying due to safety violations. I went broke cause I sucked at poker then I just decided to turn a couple bucks into a couple thousand bucks and then I decided to turn a couple thousand bucks into a couple hundred thousand bucks and after that I never looked back. See what happened was I sucked so bad at poker cause I wanted to win every pot. THEN I decided to tighten up and the really good players who actually know what they are doing didn't realize I got really tight at the tables and they basically started giving me their money cause the winner players didn't recognize my change in play.

He has 1 cash in the 2009 WSOP on Hendon Mob for ~$36,000. Never heard of games that he has played in besides the RARE game at some of the high limit games in Vegas. Even then there is nothing about his play. The Doug Polk video about his play was interesting, if you haven't seen it.

There's probably some combination of truth and deceit. Dan is clearly uncomfortable when Graham inquires about the trust fund inheritance. There are no cameras and publicity for these private games, because they're operating in a gray legal area. The Russian mob is involved in the NYC games. These games are a poker pro's wet dream, but most sharks are barred entry. Dan is lucky to have connections and access to these high stakes games with mostly whales and fish. Table selection is key to long-term success in poker. There's a movie coming out called Molly's Game that chronicles how many of these games were organized by Molly Bloom. Also, just because Dan hasn't won any bracelets doesn't mean he hasn't invested a lot of time and money into playing poker. Tournaments are how a few pros win fame on top of fortune, but most sharks are silent professionals who earn their bread and butter through cash games.
