Very cool! It's a OMG moment for me! This is one of my favorite's from Dan,even though he didn't write it. One of his musical influences,The Hollies penned the song. Dan put his magical touch to the song and made it own. The beginning is the sound of Tuscon,Arizona Gazette. Joe Vitale playing the flute? Mike Hanna,monster on the piano.Larry Burton on the guitar. They were smokin'on this song. Please remember Larry Burton, he passed away a few months ago. Great post and thanks!

This has been one of my absolute favorite songs of anyone's since Dan first released it. For me it's a rarity to hear someone interpret someone else's work (in this case the Hollies) and think "they nailed this one and I like it far better than the original". But Dan and Tim did it in spades on this song. For me, it's a perfectly crafted song. Thanks so much to pre10der76 for posting this video.

I remember Dan listed the Hollies on The Innocent Age in his list of musical influences. I think they were #2 or #3 on the list. If I’m not mistaken, the first three were: “Beatles, Hollies, Byrds…”, possibly with Hollies and Byrds reversed.

"Love when you can, cry when you have to, feel you must, it's a part of the plan,...await your arrival with simple survival, one day we'll all understand,"... I remember this adage playing on my radio while I did my H.S. homework. Encouraging words. @asquare176 I agree with all your words. Fantastic to see Fogelberg doing this live!! It's, in fact, my favorite, though originally, a Hollie song. Exquisite!! Brings back memories of those good old days when there was high quality music made & performed by really talented musicians. Yes, the mainstream now is diposable music..! The mainstream was to create, innovate, invent, not to follow a shallow disposable pop culture.

I wasn't trying to discount anyone's opinion or 'point' with what I posted. I was sharing a tidbit of obscure info about the song with those who might be interested in hearing the original band's version of it. That is the short and long of it. No deeper meanings, no analysis, just attempting to share the music with like minds.

That's not the point, it can still autobiographical, even if he didn't write it. That's probably why he chose to record it, & put it on the album-because he related to it!! On the other hand, there are songs that he (& other artists) write, that are NOT autobiographical-just stories about characters they make up, or people they hear about. Like the beautiful, "Bones in the Sky"...it was about Georgia O'Keefe, not about Dan, & hence not autobiographical!! So Lunar3Eclipse has a very valid point!!
@bookguitarguy11 жыл бұрын
So no disrespect intended, but I'd say the fact that your statement (that Dan did not write the song) was directed to her, in response to her comment, was a "correction"-as opposed to simply a comment on the video/song itself. Hope that helps clarify. Each person's post stands on its own, & they only become a "discussion" when we direct our comments to one another (rather than to the video). Your response to Lunar3Eclipse missed the point of her post IMO, & that might be considered "disjointed".

So, if we agree that we (as in all who comment here) are talking about the song, how is it irrelevant that I mention who the writer of said song is in a disjointed style discussion about the song? The problem is that you are attempting to force a problem into a place that only you have a problem with. I have a problem that you used the word than back there when then should have been used instead. Guess what? No problem whatsoever. I completely get what you meant!
@Lunar3Eclipse12 жыл бұрын
What kind of eternal fuckup would ever leave Daniel Grayling Fogelberg??? If these lyrics are autobiographical, then some woman was a complete lunatic to break up w/ Dan ever, much less in a note.
@bookguitarguy11 жыл бұрын
The problem is not what you meant to say, but what you actually said, so it comes down to comprehending the English language. If what you said and what you meant are two different things, than so be it. :O) I was agreeing with her point, that Dan was a great guy, and for a woman to end a relationship with him through a written note was pretty lame. That he didn't write the song was irrelevant, if it concerned events that actually happened in his life. That's "pretty clear" to me-& Lunar3Eclipse!
@LinYouToo16 жыл бұрын
oops....I mean flute!
@djdepaolo11 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, yes really. Why do I get a sneaking suspicion that there is not very much that comes across as 'pretty clear' to you? But if explaining to me what I really meant when I wrote what I wrote is what gives you satisfaction in life, then so be it. :O)
@bookguitarguy11 жыл бұрын
Sigh... the entire problem, from my perspective, is that you refuse to acknowledge that you were "correcting" Lunar3Eclipse, incorrectly. Your failure to acknowledge that seems like ego. Ie, you didn't mind pointing out that she was wrong (even though she wasn't), yet when I point out YOUR error you can't accept it. How many times would I have to tell you it was unnecessary to inform her that Dan didn't write the song, since the question was, had he experienced it in his life? Hope that helps!!!
@drew-shourd5 жыл бұрын
An amazing tune from an incredible album...crappy video...
@bookguitarguy11 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Not really. If you were not attempting to "correct her", that it was not autobiographical, then your comment to Lunar3Eclipse would be a complete non-sequitir, since she never said that Dan wrote the lyrics!! :O) So it's pretty clear that you "were" trying to correct her, probably with the best of intentions, and missed the point that the words could still be totally true for Dan whether he wrote the song or not. Just acknowledge that you were wrong, and move forward. :O))
