For context, George Chuvalo, heavyweight boxing's signature granite chin, never dropped despite fighting a laundry list of boxing's hardest hitters, was only ever stopped once in his career and that was when Joe Frazier cracked his orbital bone with a left hook and the fight had to be waved off. Dan Hooker fought after that head kick with a broken orbital and won the fight. Dan Hooker is the new T-Ferg.

Me being a fiercely patriotic Kiwi and a CKB fan from way back, thanks for the great rap for Dan. As Izzy says, 'Humble, I'll tell you what humble is, Having Dan Hooker all over you, and hanging off you at training, THAT is humbling.' Re the 'It's just a scratch' quote, we Kiwis national game is Rugby and one of the toughest players in the history of our national team the All Blacks was the late Colin Meads, or Pine Tree as he was known, in a game against the mighty South African team the Springboks,in the 1960's Piney broke his arm early in the game. He played a blinder of a game and next day when the press learned of the broken arm they naturally asked him about it and asked how painful it must be, esp playing the Springboks (where the entire 15 players are all like Dricus DuPlessis, tough bastards.) Mead's answer was, 'It's just a scratch' and that went down in New Zealand rugby folklore, no doubt internationally admired by opposition players as well, he was well respected and liked among his peers even thouh they were playing rugby, a very combative sport, just like US football but without the helmet and padding. Meads went on to play the entire 4 games of the Sth African tour, in a plaster cast. Dan was too young to remember the incident, actually, I don't think he was born yet when it happened, but his father most likely told Dan about the legendary Colin Meads when Dan was still shitting his pants as a kid. Mike, all the best for the rest of your career. You are a tuff bastid who knows how to fight and it would be cool to see you 'Strap up' someday. Whatever you do in the UFC, have fun brother, tis but a small part of your life is the fighting so best to enjoy it while you are still doing it. RESPEC sir.

I'm not sure if you releases this before that knowledge was public but that's just another reason to treasure this man. I've seen fighters stop or quit from far less and not only was he brutalised in the 1st he must have been questioning what the hell am I doing in here but to turn it around and see the tarantula with the 1000 yard stare during the 2nd and 3rd round was absolutely stunning it goes to show its never over until it's over. Thankyou for your honest opinion and breakdown of past and possibly future opponents you could have brought him down like alot of others would but instead you've built him up and turned him into the kiwi warrior that he always will be. Dan Hooker's toughness was on full display in his fight against Edson Barboza. He took one of the worst beatings ever and his abs were totally tenderised from all the brutal kicks he absorbed. But he didn't quit for a second, and when he collapsed it was because his body quit not his mind. His fight with Dustin Porier is one of the craziest slugfests I have ever seen and I have seen most of them.
