Dan Patrick reacts to Tom Brady's first appearance inside the broadcast booth calling NFL games

They should of had a 3 man booth with Greg Olsen. I remember the first year Troy Aikman did games he was in a 3 man booth until he figured out how TV worked.

@Crusader7077Ай бұрын
I absolutely agree regarding the 3-main booth. Back in the 1990s, when Phil Simms started out in a 3-man booth with Dick Enberg and Paul Maguire, Simms was very green, and Paul Maguire was a help to Simms during that time. Another veteran color commentator, in a 3-man booth with Kevin Burkhardt, would be an asset to Brady working alongside him.

I think Dan summed it up when he said that Tom knows football, now he needs to know TV. I’m reminded of Joe Montana when he tried a stent in the booth. It was painful to watch because you knew he’s a genius on the field, but you have to be able to get it out in 10 to 15 soundbites.

First day on the job and Brady still can't catch a break. Remember when he was thrown in to his first game as a Patriot? Yeah not many people remember much and there were too many comparisons with Bledsoe. Some said Brady's cadence with his squeaky voice would never work well for a long QB career. How did that turn out?
@OUTFOXEMАй бұрын
@@macdaknife5160 Lol it's ok if you love Tom but he absolutely does not have a great voice for TV. Tom Brady was blessed with many, many gifts -- a good voice is not one of them.

The Manningcast has all sorts of technical language, and we love it! Don't dumb it down, Brady!
@patriotsfan122480Ай бұрын
I don’t think the issue is the technical side. It’s timing. The analysis needs to be quick, decisive, he needs to learn when to stop talking for the play by play, injuries, etc. and then pick the story back up again after the event happens. The Manningcast is different. Peyton and Eli can spend 10-15 minutes focusing on 1 play as the game continues to go by or interviewing one of their guests on their thoughts on the game, or the weekends games or a player in particular and they can just focus on that. The booth isn’t like that, which is one of the reasons the Manningcast is enjoyable especially after years of booth broadcasts. Honestly, since you brought up the Manningcast, Fox probably would have been better off doing their own version of it with Brady and some others. Sit them on a couch, in front of the tv, watching “America’s Game of the Week” or whatever, and just let them cut loose as an alternative to the broadcast booth. He’d probably be much better in a studio setting anyway, but it was also his first time doing this live for four quarters, with people tuning in to see what would happen as well.

I think what these dudes don’t grasp is that Tom is a master *in* the game, not *out* of the game. Watching film and PLANNING accordingly is Tom’s specialty - he’s a thinker. His speciality is not running a fake “public analysis” on every play. That’s why he’s awkward and pauses, because he isn’t used to thinking at an average level. This is the case with a lot of extraordinary people - Elon Musk for instance, he pauses and stumbles constantly, and that’s because he has so much information and creativity in his mind, he’s precise - just like Tom. This won’t be easy for Tom to adapt to. Extraordinary people are often awkward speakers in public

He was too tight and sounded like he was fighting against the natural rhythm of the game. The good news is that can be overcome with time. But it takes WORK. It took me the better part of a season to build that familiarity and comfortability, but my first broadcasts didn't sound any better than he did, frankly. The word is that Tom told Fox ownership that hiring him was the best decision they've ever made, and I'm pretty sure ten years from now we'll be looking up the 198 analysts hired before him and include that in the movie that's sure to be released right about then. If The Rock can learn to sing on a Disney track, believe me, Tom will figure this part of broadcasting by game 5 or so. Tony Romo is the steal for CBS. But I think Brady needs a guy like Edelman or Greg Olsen beside him, the energy might work better.

Not a Bet David fan but if it was like that interview i get the voice part. Having said that... i think i get why some pros are all anxious about stuff. Guy calls one game and there's critical reaction. Everything they do gets dissected. Even if you tell those guys to "tune it out and turn it off" there's always someone to bring up BS. Miss a dunk it seems like everyone - especially losers that couldn't even make JV, tries to pile on. Miss a pass, uh-uh, you're waived.😂😂

Brady should have went to the DP broadcasting school

i asked my wife and she said she only notices a voice if it is annoying and drowns out the game. She cant stand Romo or Peyton because their voice don't let her focus on the game. Its Color Analyst for a reason, you add to it not surpass the game.

Brady will be fine. He will improve

I was expecting Brady to be more like Romo. Or at least call plays they should run after the previous play turn out. Maybe say what the defense is about to do and how to escape that.

Guys he just needs the mic closer to his mouth… other than that we love Tom’s voice ! He was fine, plus Damn Burkhart was talking too much, he’s got to shut up and let Tom talk !!!
