Dan underplays how good he is. Love how honest yet humble he is about his game. Some great drives, a solid long game, nailing putts and up and downs easily but never boastful or smug. What a guy.

I’ve just started watching, edits to follow, but it’s your course management which is the key. Best instructional videos out in the ether. Most KZbinr golfers take a club for the distance saying stuff like “I hit a wedge 160 yards!” then miss the green and go to a sports psychologist thinking its attitude. You neatly show the use of clubs that would well exceed the distance required but do a Seve and make a shot. Nice one Dan.
@blue245632 ай бұрын
What an amazing attitude Dan has. Grinding out every shot, even a mid-range putt for a double bogey where lots of players would be seething. He seems to remain so calm and collected whatever the score.

I’ve watched this video now 3 or 4 times over the past couple months. Every time no watch I pick something new up - my favorite gem from this one though is something so simple as ball position on the punch shots. I’ve always had inconsistent results with punch shots out of the trees, but knowing to put the ball further back in the stance so the club face can find more purchase will hopefully make all the difference! Thank you for all you do, Dan! Shoutout from across the pond in WA state!!

Absolutely. My main goal now is to avoid them at all costs and if one happens I take my medicine and move on humbly to the next hole because in the end golf is a hard. Thr game became lot more fun for me being now being genuinly happy when I scramble for bogey.

I only live a few miles from this course. I played it quite a few times in the 90s and I loved it. It was a lot cheaper back then too. I remember doing the day package there twice; coffee on arrival, 18 on the Duchess, carvery lunch, and then 18 on the Dukes. The cost was £67.50 for the whole day. I think the same deal today is over 5 times that amount. There was a group of us in our local snooker club, one of whom was a member at Woburn and I used to go there with him and a couple of others to play 18 in the late afternoon for £30; dunno what it would be today. The really nice thing about the course is the tranquility of the setting; it was like we were the only people in the world, playing golf amongst the wildlife. Best golfing days ever for me.

Another round of golf in which I was engrossed. The course management comes across more clearly when decisions are made live. Just one thing Dan, I was always told to make a decision and never say afterwards “I should have done this or that.”. The decision was made on the basis of the available information. Great video though, and it’s fascinating to see your top class short game decision making and execution in action. Above all it works because of your calm demeanour and humble personality.
@3n2a22 ай бұрын
I think you have to reflect on decisions after the round. 2-3 bad decisions can wreck a round. Sometimes really bad decisions, like hitting 3w over water, work out but then cost you dozens of strokes in future rounds...if you pull off a 1/10 shot, it's still a bad decision. Dan called it bad b/c it was...120 for approach would have been great-- especially when he had only hit a few fw's all day. A better statement might be "when you aren't confident about a decision on the course, take the other, more conservative, option". A world class short game contributed to poor decision b/c he is very likely to make birdie if he puts drive in play. If 6i is option 2, driver rarely is a good option 1. 🙂

Ah the old Dukes in Aspley Heath woods. One of my favourite places. Used to caddy there as a youngster back in the 80s. Good to see it get some attention, as since the Marquess was built, it seems to have lost some of the limelight. Doesn’t seem to have changed much, which is nice. When the British Masters was played there in the 80s, they started on the second to finish on the par 5 first, rather than the short par 4 18th. Thanks for the content Dan; some of the most helpful on KZbin.
