I’m sure others have mentioned it in the comments but the slide not locking back on an empty magazine is a slide stop issue. The one from the factory doesn’t fully engage the slot in the frame. I replaced mine with a Wilson Combat bullet proof slide stop and now it works perfect. Dan Wesson really shouldn’t let it leave the factory like this as it’s a known issue but otherwise it’s a fantastic firearm.

Yes, one other mentioned it so far. But yeah, no excuses for a firearm in this price range and what they heck are they thinking if they know it's an issue? Good way to tarnish the name...

My "Guardian" in 45 did as well, switched out to the Wilson Combat slide lock and problem solved - locks back any mag; I use DW, Chip McCormick, and MecGar... Nice review.

My ffl guy said when cz took over they have had to send a few back no problems fixing them , I didn't think cz would have a problem I have a couple of there target pistols and they are very high quality. And I have heard people switched their mags to Wilson combat because they were having issues .

I own several Dan Wessons and they are all fantastic. I have experienced one of my 9mm (ECP) would periodically fail to lock back shooting 115 Gr. ammo until it was broken in. It functioned perfectly with 125 gr or 147 gr.

The light 9mm didn't have enough energy to push the slide all the way back. Should have slide lightening cuts

Same thing would happen with me and the mag, 9mm TCP. I ended up switching over to 10R 9mm Tripp Research magazines and it solved the issue of the slide not locking back.

Checked out the grips for my TCP - might need to budget those as well but the grey hippo looks sick Same issues on my DW mags - just switched to Wilson no issues

DW messed up on that slide stop, I’ve had that happen on an old Colt. Replaced the part with a ever slightly thicker diameter slide stop pin/bar.

Thanks for the videos, I scrolled though all your videos and it looks like you have a variety of 1911 in various calibers- Can you please do a video comparing all of them- pros and cons, favorite and ones you wouldn't buy again?

That would be an awesome video, but I only own one 1911 currently (the Ruger). Most of the others were borrowed for the reviews. I can tell you however, that Tisas and Rock Island make excellent 1911's for the price, but my Ruger is way better though in every way and I love it. The Remington is probably just as good as the Ruger and I'd place the Springfield we tested just under those two by personal preference, but honestly it's probably just as good. My Colt Commander was a very nice piece, but they have a tendency to throw the brass back into your face while shooting. And this Dan Wesson is probably the best 1911 I've ever handled, save for it not wanting to lock back after the last round. All of them I just mentioned are dead reliable, not one issue except for the Dan Wesson not locking back (fixable). The Girsan we had a lot of issues with, along with some other EAA import 1911 that had issues. My pick under $500 is the RIA, under $1000 is the Ruger. That said, the "Tisas 1911A1 Service" model I tested with Pachmayr grips really blew me away for the price. One of the best shooting 1911's I've ever shot and felt great in the hand, would put it on par with my Ruger- but it's about half the price. Hope this helps...

Yeah I noticed after recording, that on the part of it that contacts the mag, it has some weird cutouts/shaving on it. I'm assuming it is off by a fraction of a mm, just enough to cause a sparatic no hold open like I was experiencing...

For a lot of bang for the buck, the Girsan MC 1911 C 9mm is a solid option. Not taking anything away from Dan Wesson but that slide lock issue is a bit suspect. Featured a MC1911 in .45acp a few years ago and had all kinds of issues with it. Of course, that was a sample of 1. I do however love their Regard 9mm- every bit of a Beretta M9 variant but at half the cost.
