When I see fighters from back in the day struggling to pay their bills and having extreme health issues, then I see Dana gambling 30k per hand it’s sad. I understand it’s a business and he can’t just be handing money out left and right but some of those guys gave everything for the sport BEFORE it was a cash cow, they did it for the honor and fame and the love of the game instead of money like every fighter does now. They threw it all down in the octagon, every fight gave it their all like they’d never fight again. Modern fighters point fight and avoid as much as they can, they think about the cash they will get every new fight and their future, longevity, image, and career instead of fighting like they’re about to get cut, barely get paid, and putting a show on for the fans it’s all “me, me, me, money, money, money.” These old fighters probably only need a fraction of what Dana gambles (millions) or spends on shoes (100k) so I understand why modern fighters don’t throw down as hard the company won’t support them in the future so why risk and reduce that very future itself. Ufc needs a pension or 401k based on time spent with the company, # of fights, # of FOTN bonuses, and total wins. Definitely not the W/L ratio that insinuates retiring early when ur record is good. Strictly based on how much the fighter gave up for the company like rampage said “let the logo get in the octagon see how many people tune in” backyard brawls proves that it doesn’t matter how big the company is people still will watch if they are fans.
