Great video brother . I myself made right around 410 wheel back in the day on a 60-1 trim ct-26 with walbro 255, lex afm, rx7 550cc injectors and race gas back in the day. Ran that for about a year till i decided for more power. Switched to borg warner s360 and 750cc injectors and made solid 530 whp. Now shooting for 800+ with my next build. But the 7m loves boost i say the driftmotion kit you mentioned or any borg warner s3xx series turbo with supporting mods can make 4-500 hp easy. Theres so many more options no a days for these cars compared to even 12 years ago when i first started getting into them.

Also I don't think it can be stated enough the importance of proper oiling when it comes to these higher horsepower setups maybe touch base on the driftmotion oil bypass line that goes in the oil pan as well as may be a shimmed oil pump from driftmotion

Good primer right there; not a whole lot of A70/7MGTE content out there so it's appreciated. I'm starting on a mechanical restoration of mine('88T/Targa/R154). My route is a bit different but I also have different goals. I'm not after large amounts of power and I'm putting longevity and durability first. A nebulous goal is around 300-320whp and if I don't quite reach it I'm just fine with it. I want an A70 that's capable of being driven daily if I want to do so. Turbo choice is a bit old-school, but I think the 57-trim CT26 will suit my needs. I'm debating a billet wheel on the rebuild; I figure it'll spool a little more quickly. Stock AFM/injectors for now, but I'll likely move to the UCF10 AFM/550s once I know everything's mechanically solid. The head's been given the proper attention by a competent machinist and I'm going with their recommendation of the Cometic MLS/ARP combo for head gasket and studs. Also throwing new oil squirters, upgraded oil pump and a redesigned sump feed pipe for more consistent oiling. I should mention that this is on a low-mileage 7M that hadn't experienced BHG. I went for a stock MKIV TT fuel pump; forum anecdotes seem to point to it flowing about as well as a Walbro 255 with OEM quietness and durability. Exhaust is somewhat dictated by what the car has. It came with a Blitz Nur-Spec catback which I remember being a good, high quality system back in the day. I still need to get a good high-flow cat to replace the stocker. The downpipe I chose is by a company called Malian; they primarily sell in the UK and Europe but is the only semi-divorced setup I could find other than rolling the dice and bothering BIC. I figure this should be a solid base to support incremental power increases. I've come across way too many broken, trashed MA70s and don't want any part of that. So, starting with a broken, cheap-ish shell and building it into what I want is a good thing, haha.
@DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 4 жыл бұрын
You should have the ability to daily your a70 with no dramas at any power level as long as you have a good reliable tune and supporting mods. I nearly daily mine in the summer months with no issues at all. A billet wheel will out flow a stock cast wheel in a ct26 as well as being lighter to aid in spool you are 100% right. It seems like you are on track for your goal. I simply started with a larger turbo kit in this vlog to allow for power growth into the next vlog. At the 400 whp mark The 67mm billet kit from drift motion is overkill, many people get to 400 with a 57 trim ct26 and the are dead reliable.

Great info you have. Rockauto for OEM Denso parts and DriftMotion where my two main sources when I did my 7mGTE build. I like the Sound Performance 6262 bolt-on Precision Turbo and at 23 psi it pulls hard and puts down 540 whp on e85. I also have it tuned for 450whp on pump at 19 psi which is fun to drive also. Can't wait for my next build with even more power because as you know it just does not stop at just one power level lol.

Instead of using the Lexus 550cc injectors I would recommend a set of evo 8 560cc injectors you can usually find a reputable Source on a couple of eBay stores that have been bench tested cleaned and flow matched I picked up a set of 6 evo 8 injectors fully refurbished for about $180 they are a direct fit into our fuel rail end the intake manifold as well as running low impedance the only other adapter you would need for this adjustment would be at Denso to Bosch ev1 adapter which you can pick up a set of 6 for about $45
@DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 5 жыл бұрын
Evo 8 injectors are a great option, know a few guys that used the rx7 injectors in a few budget friendly builds. I chose the lex 550's because they are always sold in a set of 6 and they are drop in minus one plastic tab that needs trimming. Wanted to keep it as simple as possible. Ive even seen a few sets of used RC550's sell in that 200 range. Just have to keep an eye open and be ready to buy when a good deal shows it self, usually thats when I run out of money haha

I like a lot of power but I can't get enough of the stock turbo. I ran 15 psi on the stock turbo along with supporting Mods and it was insanely fun. Would you consider a upgraded stock frame turbo? I really hate the feeling of a laggy turbo.
@DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 4 жыл бұрын
I didnt put an upgraded ct frame turbo in this list as I wanted to leave the builders with room to make more HP with thanging minimal components in the future. Even a 60-1 (500hp at best) or an old lipp boss hybrid would struggle to make 600 ish and for the cost of one of those units used if you could find one you can buy the 67mm kit from aaron. Conns to the smaller turbo would also include higher exhaust gas temps as they are a choke point for exhaust leaving the engine and highter air intake temps at higher boost levels. Pro

lex/550 mod is essentially a no tunning required mod as the AFM flows more air to match the injectors. It will be fat at idle so thats where a little tunning could come into play but I wouldnt say its a requirement

I bought 1000 dollar 87 auto supra mostly for the motor itself, the body will be for parts, the motor appears to be in pretty good shape for its age, going to rebuild most of it, new seals and gaskets, new rod/main bearings, new water pump, new oil pump, but re use the crank/pistons and rods they are in good shape. Anyways, i want to build a 350-400hp streetcar, what would need to be done to the oiling systems for me not to worry about rodknock. Should i use a stand alone?, i plan on cruising with it mostly, maybe a highway pull here n there. What all should be done?, i want to do this right the first time. Plan to make more in futute perhaps.

Oil pick up tube from ARZ Performance. stock ones are crush bent.. not cool. Stock pump and everything else should be just fine. With a basic rebuild and Metal head-gasket and ARP studs at 80-100ft-lbs your car will be reliable for a long time if you take care of it. Stand alone is not really needed at 350/400 as most 7m cars out there can make 350/400 with basic bolt ons and an apexi safc. No dramas

I swapped a 7m into my mustang because I bought a mk3 with no title. I put in a bigger intercooler, a t4 manifold, and im running an ebay turbo trying to go for a turbonetics turbo. Full exhaust. I have a 250L pump, and lex afm but i need an afpr and injectors. Before i put it in i refreshed the entire engine w bearings, rings, mhg, but no head studs yet on stock internals. Im on a 10lb spring and im a bit on edge wether to go any higher on stock internals if i dont have head studs and an ecu. I think im around 300whp or it could be higher im not sure, but how much power can the stock internals handle if i put a better clutch that can take it?

@DanaAnthonyHoeft 4 жыл бұрын
Weston Gorospe well, With 550’s and a lex AFM, the supporting mods you have. Somewhere around 400. The only concern for me would be a head gasket not being an MLS and ARP head studs or bolts (though studs are preferred over bolts). Some ARP’s and a good head gasket has seen otherwise bolt on 7M’s into the 700’s on stock internals.

10seconds into the video and already love the direction your going with your channel :) Good video! I heard nothing but positive things about driftmotion. I guess the only other question is will you make another video discussing what paths to go down for after 400hp and maybe 600-700hp range safely. Also what standalone ECU would you recommend? ECUmasters, Motec, AEM, Megasquirt? I am getting my old 89' MK3 back from my best friend who has been holding onto it for the last decade while I serve in the military, but he has some tasteful modifications done to it over the years to the point where I think it might be pushing over 400hp. He told me his brother was helping him tune with the apexiafc which is very difficult and limiting and they hit 28lbs of boost and spun the tires from 80mph all the to 120mph before he let off the gas lol. Current mods my buddy said was done: stock bottom end on low mileage JDM swap 7M (still had original Toyota honing marks on cylinders :) , Felpro headgasket w/ARP studs torqued to 90lbs, Lexus MAF, 550cc RCengineering injectors, ApexiAFC, AEM wideband, AEM/Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, 255lph Walbro pump (maybe needs the 450 you suggested), 7268 Ebay turbo (risky choice i know ebay right), HKS external divorced downpipe with 20 or 25lb spring, HKS full 3" dragger exhaust system, Custom Southbend clutch twin plate ($950), HKS turbo timer, big intercooler with t-bolt hose clamps, maybe few other parts i am forgetting. I will be seeing the car in person hopefully in November when I drive up to my brothers wedding and meet my best friend while in town. Any advice on current mods other then replace the ebay parts with better trust worthy brands?? Thanks Anthony advance and loving your videos your posting. Almost forgot, the car has an old original Carbonfiber FX targa top ;) a rare work of art

Thanks for the continued support with my channel, This video will have a second part, and a third part actually covering all things needed to go from 400whp -700ish. Then from 700 too north of 1000. Thank you for your service sir. As far as standalone, I recommend AEM, Duane will prolly see this and message me about it but its true. Motec stuff in my car as you know but for most people its far to complicated and very expensive. Motec is in my opinion the best of the best. I recommend AEM stuff to anyone that asks for two reasons. One: Availability of product. It is literally everywhere. The second reason being any dyno shop near or far from you will have some one around that has some backround with AEM ecu's. MS is making huge leaps forward too. Awesome, CFX STUFF! as far as replacing the ebay stuff the turbo is the only thing I would question long term reliability past moderate hp levels. BW turbo's are an awesome value. an s366 will get you to 800 and being super super street-able.

The sc400 afm housing it what you need the sensor is the same. The sc400 housing has about a 20% section of the total air opening out side the metered area. 20% more un-registered air flow with the 20% more fuel flow from the 550cc injectors on the stock 440cc ecu calibration is how we stay safe in fueling while bumping up fuel cut

Auto trans has its own ecu, I think your stuck with it (stock trans controller) unless you you go motec (BIG money) I believe John Reed Racing makes a program to control the a340 on the motec but again its big money. I would say if you plan on staying auto and looking for 5-750hp go with an ATI adapter/converter and th350 swap it. I know the a70 a340 can live at 500 but even rebuilt with good clutches and cranked line pressure/big trans cooler about that 500 whp mark is the point of unknown with the old slush box. @DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 5 жыл бұрын
Actually the 2jz will cost you more money to put in the car. You will also need mounts and a bell-housing for the transmission and a clutch/flywheel. Driftmotion sells everything you will need for the swap. It will cost you aabout $1000 or a little more to set the 2JZ in your car. It is a good option and it has been done many times, you can still make 350-400 whp on the stock ecu out of the USDM twins (steel wheel) if they are in good condition. JDM twins are ceramic and will not put up with high boost pulls for long.

I have the N/A version the 7mge, do you know how much power can I get? Or wich parts do I need to improve it, or should I go for the swap for the turbo or 2jz?

@@cameronschnieders8282 Yes sir you bet. Only thing the 7M needs to be reliable in my opinion is a metal head gasket and arp studs done the right way and an ARZ oil pick up tube in the oil sump.

I'm looking into getting a mk3 myself because they're fairly cheap around here and I just had a quick question So with all the drift motion parts bolted on am I going to have a dyno day or since it's already turboed will the ECU pick up on the higher boost and adjust itself accordingly?
@DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 5 жыл бұрын
For this 400 whp or so on 14-15psi you dont require a tune. the lexus afm and 550cc injectors will play nice with all your factory electronics and allow you to boost past the stock fuel cut of about 12 psi.

At what point do you consider the head gasket upgrade/ torquing to above the factory ft/lbs? Around what psi of boost?
@DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 4 жыл бұрын
As soon as you can, replace the stock HG and bolts with a set of ARP studs stock engine or not. If your not sure its ever been done pull your cam covers and look for ARPs. If you see them in there its likely to have been done by the previous owner. But, I would re-do it anyways being me. The head bolts where under torqued from factory at just 54ft/lbs. in reality it should have been more like 85-90ft/lbs. I recommend 100ft/lbs.

At this stage the stock ECU can handle the 550cc injectors and lex afm. At most an Apexi SAFC for that 400 mark but not 100% needed. Its debatable.

Got a question. I've been wondering with all these lex 550/afm mods, how the ECU deals with timing. By fooling the ECU, you're actually at a different part of the map. Do you dial back the timing by one degree? Isn't stock timing risking a blown head?
@DanaAnthonyHoeft
@DanaAnthonyHoeft 3 жыл бұрын
The LEX/550 combination is tried and true. The ecu actually has no idea of how rich the car is running or how lean for that matter on WOT. The o2 sensor is only looked at for part throttle and cruise. As far as timing thats up to the knock sensors and Ive never had an issue nor heard of a timing related issue with the LEX/550 mods. I wouldnt say its fooling the ecu the LEX afm flows about 25% more air through an unmetered section in the bottom of the casting and the 550's being about 25% larger is perfect. The 7M,s stock fueling map is so rich that I have had friends get away with a LEX afm and no 550's. It was just lean (in my opinion) on cruise. Stock timing on the 7m as well is not aggressive in the least. I wouldnt tough timing at all for the LEX/550 combination.
