I'm still trying to figure out how that happened. They certainly weren't in the Inquisitor's quarters. It looked like one of the random rooms you find when running around the ramparts. If that was the case, then why in the world would they have gone to that particular room in search of the Inquisitor? Wouldn't they have gone to his quarters instead? Yeah, made from a ridiculously awkward scene played for laughs but it made zero sense.

This is the definition of a bitter-sweet ending and although I like fairytale endings the more I think about this the more I like it. They're still together - it's just a long-distance relationship. Personally I find it very powerful that the inquisitor inspired Dorian to make real change in Tevinter, but it puts them on slightly different paths in their lives currently. It's not a co-dependent relationship, but a really mature and loving one. And there's plenty of hope that someday they can live together in the future, it's not like that's off-the-table completely. I'm really hoping that we'll see an update on their relationship in DA4, letting us know they're still together. Would be amazing.

I completely agree with you. Couldn't have said it better myself. Most fans who romanced Dorian act so sad about his ending, almost as if he or the Inquisitor died or something, and while I do understand why they would feel saddened, I personally see this as a happy ending. As you said, their relationship is mature and loving and nobody is holding the other back from doing what they desire to do with their own lives. Dorian also stands beside the Inquisitor at the very end of the DLC, which is another powerful proof how strong their relationship is. In my personal opinion, the only romance that ends truly sadly and tragically in DA:I is Solas' for many reasons. Every other romance ends on a positive and hopeful note.

@@destructiveraider Same here! I agree with what both of yall have said. I got into EVERYTHING Dragon Age, ALL because I saw a clip with Dorian years ago haha. I didn't realize it upset a lot of people, I always loved how it ended. Both are doing what they feel they must and want in their lives, and at the end of a hard day they'll always have the other's voice. I don't know why Dorian's romance and epilogue hit so hard and so good, but it just felt so content to me. I'm also very excited to read any little snippets of what's up with them in Dreadwolf!

And also, it is clear that they will permanently physically reunite at some point if control is in their hands (Dorian: "There will always be an 'us', we'll just be farther apart *for a time* .") It's really cool that you got into Dragon Age because of Dorian - he is one of the best characters in the franchise, for sure! Pity Dorian isn't really likely to make any sort of change in Tevinter. The elven/slavery issue will likely need another civil war and what with the Qun's renewed attacks on their lands following Trespasser, reform isn't likely to be a priority at all for them. Survival is. Dorian and his friends may talk up a storm but they'll most likely either be ignored or trampled on in the long run. DA4 won't likely feature any major characters from DAI. They may appear in cameos or be referenced by others. Yes, it'll be set partially in Tevinter but likely several years in the future where anyting could have happened in the intervening years. Somewhat confirmed is that the Grey Wardens may play a significant role again and there will be some quests set in Weisshaupt. The Inquisitor is unlikely to play a major role at all given their loss after Trespasser. All focus will be on Solas.

It's not a relationship I could ever see myself enduring, sadly, in real life. Out of sight, out of mind. Over a distance of several thousand miles, that's a long way to keep up a relationship and it's something that would weigh heavily on me. That possibility of "maybe someday" is just not enough for me to hang onto.

I know that Dorian had "obviously gay stereotypes", so people have said, but being gay myself I was never bothered by it and honestly found it cute. Seeing him for the last time when he said "you didn't think I'd just leave and you'd never hear from me again did you?" After giving the player a sending crystal was so sad yet wholesome. I really loved how genuine his VA sounded during all the romance scenes, especially here as it truly made me believe that he cared for the player. Something about this final scene makes me want to cry everytime haha.. I do hope he returns in the next Dragon Age. 🥰

Cant remember if his writer is a gay man or not. He puts on a lot of airs and graces... but theres a sting in the way he says take them all shopping. its almost as if hes aware hes EXPECTED to act that way. Hes an Altus, and practically an alcoholic... Unless one takes the time to smash all of his walls down with a sledgehammer... its easy to hate him. First inquisior would have gladly stabbed him. Repeatedly. But next thing I knew they were in a romance. From then on any male inquisitor traps off with him and is intent on wrapping him in bubblewrap. My gal flirts like hell and tells him to keep at it haha. I made a cannon gal as I wanted to romance Cullen, Dorian will ALWAYS have his bff (and husband... and dog(s) lol) at disposal xD I think people miss the parts where he confesses he doesnt want to live a lie. People honestly slag him off for it and call him selfish... He is aware of that notion! He could put on the show and have lovers... but he wants commitment. Had he been born in fereldan nobody would have given two tosses. If he is in the next game I have a feeling he will be broken up from the inquisitor or they will be conveniently seperate the whole time.

The epilogue clearly shows that they're still together - well, as a couple. They stay in contact and it says that sometimes Inky sneaks to Tevinter to visit Dorian. They're a couple throughout it all, they're just not in the same part of the world all the time.

YES...! The opening conversation with Cassandra in Trespasser is her trying to give advice to the Inquisitor after Varric convinces her you are considering marriage to your partner (obviously that plays out a little different if you romanced her). After she learns that Varric tricked her, there is an option to confess that you have thought about getting married. I saw this in my Dorian playthrough, even knowing what was coming with Dorian, and was immediately like, "Yes. This."

In my first playthrough, he went back to Tevinter after Corypheus died. And when he said he was going back again in Trespasser it made me really confused, I thought he was already gone for good 😂

The idea is that Trespasser is set two years after the end of the main game. The player could have done the other two DLCs, The Descent and Jaws of Hakkon after the main game, since neither of them can be done once Trespasser is begun. So, if Dorian leaves once Corypheus is dead, it is assumed that he returns to help the Inquisitor complete the other two DLCs. Once Trespasser begins, he arrives as the new ambassador for the Exalted Council and then you learn that he'll be going back to Tevinter for good now since he's inherited his father's seat in the Magisterium. It works out well since that last DLC is a point of no return for the entire game. You could, of course, have chosen to play the other two DLCs before completing the main story but that would make less sense, particularly since both of them are pretty high leveled to begin with. They would serve to help fill up the time lapse during those two years following Corypheus' defeat until the council at the Winter Palace in Trespasser.

Well, Dorian had gone on and on about NOT wanting to followin his father's footsteps and bristled at the mere suggestion that he was a magister when he wasn't. Then, all of a sudden, because his father's been murdered and he's inherited the one thing he'd always said he hated and didn't want, is the one thing he's now anxiously anticipating jumping into. So, yeah. It's a bit bewildering and confusing to the Inquisitor.

do any of you know how to stop that bug from happening where the game doesn't recognize that you have romanced dorian? when i first played the dlc dorian just kept calling me a friend, no kiss at the start or anything, which i found odd but thought that bioware just had been lazy, adding the same line even if you have romanced him, but now i see this and got to know it was just a bug. i'm dreading it will happen again so i'm wondering if something you do in the game causes it, or if there's a mod to stop it from happening? :(

It is not a bug. It is connected to the dialogue with Dorian in the game. When Dorian tell you that he will go back to Tevinter after Corypheus. If you tell him Ok, I understand. He left for Tevinter right after Corypheus is dead and the welcome in DLC is not very warm, because they haven´t seen each other for 2 years. But when you acctualy emotionaly blackmail him in that dialogue and tell him that you want him to stay. He will stay with Inquisition a bit longer and you will get the kiss and everything in the DLC. I got the same reaction in DLC as you. And I was furious. I absolutelly understand his need to get back to Tevinter and make things right. But in the second playthrugh I will have to be more hysterical, I guess :D

Inquisitor would be more likely. Easier to exclude something with as many variables as the players relationship with him. Theyll likely find a way to only have the inquisitors mentioned. Even the final Solas talk has a LOT of variables.

I think, for the Inquisitor, it'll depends how you played it. The Hero dies if you make it happen, otherwise, it'll still alive in Inquisition. Also, I think (mostly hope) they'll keep in mind the relationship it had with Solas, especially the romance. It would be cool seeing the Hero, Hawke and the Inquisitor in the next game

I love these two, but there is seriously something wrong with this dialogue. Dorian gives him a smoochy apology kiss after the Inquisitor pouts about Dorian's lack of greeting. After the kiss, all the Inquisitor can come up with is what's the news? Then he's pouting about how Dorian is leaving when he'd promised to stay. Dorian proceeds to tell him about how he learned JUST THAT MORNING that his father was assassinated. Still the Inquisitor pouts. Weird.

Trespasser is the epilogue for the game, worth it for a continuation, and setup for 4 (doubtful it will exist). For fear of spoilers I dont want to say too much. I can confirm my gals BFF from Tevinter is there in all his sassy glory though. Hes also his usual emotionally constipated self with his Amatus too xD The more dismissive of something he is, the more it bugs him, asshole haha! Jaws of Hakkon is a new area with a neat lore expansion. Deep Roads has some of the best gear in the game. It level scales to you and some of the kit is pretty late game but once equipped, well, I just sell the rest as loot. Trespasser also has a few nifty addons, switchable second ability upgrades. And I believe armour Sigils were introduced too. The spoils of war packs are neat too, theres a free one in the store... but the combined price... I bought it and havent regretted it. Bought the disk preowned for dirt cheap, had a moment of weakness and paid FAR more on DLC than the game xD

@@gemsheeluhwhet978 Brilliant! There are SO many things that I was aware of already, that my inquisitors would technically have no ways of knowing... But on the other hand theres a LOT more to the extras (and main game lol) than I had expected. I ended up basically doing a second canon run, even setting it on casual only saved me 10hrs off my initial run. I normally flip the bird to paid DLC but this one was worth it for sure xD

If there's one thing that bothers me most about this game, it's the inconsistency of the writing. If Dorian is in a romance with Iron Bull, during Trespasser, they come across vast fields of stripweed. There's a prompt if Dorian is in your party for him to comment on the weed. If Iron Bull is also present, he'll tease Dorian about his allergies, asking if he has his handkerchief and Dorian sneezes, obviously quite allergic despite denying such. But if Dorian is in a romance with the Inquisitor, Dorian will still mention the stripweed but there is no hint of his allergy to the weed so what? He's only allergic if in a romance with a Qunari so long as it's not the Inquisitor?? That kind of thing just bugs the hell out of me because it makes no sense.

I am so confused by his romance in Trespasser. He says he is going back, and the epilogue shows that, but he is at the Inquisitor's side when they are at the private war council talking about what is to come. Loved Dorian's romance but was left with some questions.

Maybe it was just a timeskip after events in Trespasser? Like, yes, he left, but after some time decided to come back to help? I don't know, it's just my guess

The romantic interest for the Inquisitor is always by their side in that last cutscene at the end of Trespasser.

Ok, the way that Dorian doesn't really get sad when he talks about leaving makes me think that he never really loved the inquisitor as Muschietti as the inquisitor loved Dorian... Because the inquisitor showed how sad he got while Dorian kept talking about going back and mostly look over the fact about him and the inquisitor...even if Dorian talks with him about them.. (Yes I'm like 100 late to this thing because I just started to play it after two years not playing it.., and I'm romancing Dorian xD

Dorian has always been against showing difficult emotions, especially where other people can see him. He is an expert at the 'game'. Much too proud of a man to show true tears in public. He might have broken down if it were just the two of you in a room alone however.

StudlyFudd13 Just as you say. He even had everything prepared as to not lose contact with you. And, as you see, they do keep in contact and even see each other, is not like they broke apart forever. Dorian has always had a good heart, and you can't deny him the possibility of saving the Imperium. The Inquisitor gets sad, but he understands that. At last, they love each other and are still together. That's what matters

It makes sense that he returns to Tevinter. Throughout the main game, back home is almost all he talked about. He wanted to change it for the better. He didn't hold any powerful position in the beginning, so it made sense that he worked from the outside with the Inquisition. But with his new position as a magistrate, he now has the opportunity to change Tevinter from within. Passing up the opportunity would mean that Dorian had only been all talk all this time, and it would be a discredit to his character. Despite this decision, I think he still loves the Inquisitor, otherwise he woudl've ended it there and then nor would he have bothered with the sending crystal. Honestly though, it sucks to know that they don't have the ending we were hoping for--happy everafter TOGETHER. On the bright side, they technically are not broken up, just physically apart--for understandable reasons. The epilogue also seem to imply that they still see each other when they can. Anyways! I came here to find out if we still get to interact and include him in our party in the DLC. Can anybody please help!?!?

He returned bc the inquisitor was dying In a travel banter he says “Leliana told me your anchor made quite a fire display, why didnt you tell me....i couldve done...SOMETHING” Then the inquisitor goes “Wherever life takes us i would never trade the years we had i love you” Then Dorian responds “I knew you were going to break my heart...you bloody bastard” So technically they broke up

You have to have your inquisitor beg him to stay. If you get the choice to tell him you understand and wish him well he will leave shortly after corypheus dies If you make your inquisitor practically beg him to stay hes aware of the emotional blackmail but... its the response he wanted to hear the most. If hes gone for two years they understandably drift a bit, but they still love one another. If he hops to tevinter and back to see his family etc they are more passionate. I dont believe the months absence is the first one... Unless it is, and he stuck around for the near two years.

I hate this. We finally get a believable gay romance, in a video game no less, where is even less common. And then BOOM they don't let us have their happy ending because suddenly they have to live appart. It's really unfair and I expected better from Bioware

There still should have been an option to end the relationship with Dorian, I'm sorry. But not everyone would be thrilled at keeping a romance going over years with such a distance between them. I certainly wouldn't. A romance with an elven or qunari inquisitor would definitely be impossible in Tevinter but nothing would prevent or even hinder such a thing with a human inquisitor so it just boggles my mind that having them be together in Tevinter isn't an option. Dorian has to go it alone and yet he's never really done anything on his own other than frequent brothels and create plenty of scandals in his homeland. His rep there is atrocious and yet he believes he can sway his countrymen to grand reform and save Tevinter from itself and its past. That will never happen and this romance is doomed. The romantics may choose to believe whatever this like but this is a farce. Gladly though, I highly doubt DA4 will feature either character other than some lip service here or there by some character or piece of codex.
