Nice to see you both getting more familiar with the local food. At least you managed to get most of the items in the checklist. My personal way of telling if the nasi kerabu uses butterfly pea flower or not is the tint of blue in the rice. If it’s bright blue, usually artificial colouring is used. A less vibrant blue tend to use the flower. The bergedil, the closest point of reference for you I think is the croquette (krokett). My advice is to go earlier, like 4.30PM if you want to look for bergedil at the bazaar. As for Nasi Kandar, maybe go to the oldest and most authentic nasi kandar restaurant at Hameediyah Restaurant at Lebuh Campbell. Be careful about the pricing for the seafood and the lamb shank as they may be a lot more costly than the other items (do ask for the price to be sure).

The Nasi Kerabu if the blue coloured (originally the colour is derived butterfly pea flower/clitoris ternatea) ones is from East Coast Kelantan, Terengganu nasi Kerabu is white. Coming from North Perlis, Penang, Kedah & Perak is mostly known for Nasi Ulam & sometimes Nasi Kerabu. What sets them apart is that northern rice just the rice mixed in with 44 types of herbs & raw veggie es with pounded salted fish, dried prawns, toasted coconut, salted duck egg & sambal. Where else the East Coast Nasi Kerabu for both Kelantan & Terengganu they come with a wide variety of protein & added side dishes like stuffed chilli with fish & coconut, pickled garlic, fish crackers & salted duck eggs Since there are 14 states in Malaysia, there are wide selection of food or dish in each state. Best advice for you, in KL & Selangor you can find almost all food & dish that originates from the other states, though taste wise is not exactly original😅😅. Good job with the list! On your previous trip, you bought chicken murtabak twice BTW, the briani rice that you had was of Indian version. On your next round, you should try briani/beriani gam which is the Malay vesion originating from the state of Johor in the South. Please buy together with the protein from the same seller because either chicken or beef or mutton is of special recipe just for the beriani. To buy just the rice is a no no... As for the bergedel, it is sold at the Malay mixed rice stall. The lady that you asked at 8:52 actually said "bergedil finished(she meant to say sold out)" but you might have missed that because of her accent. Nasi kandar is sold at the Indian rice stall.
@dananna8614 Жыл бұрын

@@dananna8614 Sure thing heheh. BTW Anna, the tepung pelita version that you had in Thailand is called Tako here. Similar to tepung pelita but wrapped in pandan leaves and the original one always has bits of water chestnut in it. If only you could taste tepung pelita cooked the old ways using firewood instead of steaming it on gas stove. The tase is very different - smokey and fragrant. Very hard to find these days especially in towns and cities. Only done in kampungs and even then, hard to come buy these days as people choose convenience over hardwork 😛

Buying drinks in plastic is a bit hard if not tied properly so you can tell the stall owner ti tie completely. Yea you mixed up the bryani rice with the nasi kandar. The nasi kerabu is salad rice which comes with the salted egg. So you must take a bit of the salted egg to eat with the mixed rice and salad. The tepung pelita is best eaten chilled. The modern one looks like its using artificial pandan flavouring so the colour is bright green. But the one using the leave has the original pandan flavour thats why the colour looks dull. Its not easy to find begedil but its usually sold with other dishes like curry dishes, fish dishes, vege dishes. So when you see people selling different kinds of dishesnin stainless steel containers ask them " Do you have "begedil"?". Just ask, you know by now Malaysians are very helpful..and if you are lucky someone might tell you the stall that sell them. Just a tip, if you want to buy any "kueh" or dessert that has pandan in it, look at the colour don't choose bright green instead choose the dull green because that one is natural green using pandan leaves which are blended in a blender to extract the juice. Some people eat nasi kandar with white rice or bryani rice and its usually served with different kinds of curry sauce, vege and one serving of meat or chicken. Its a complete meal actually.

Bergedel can be found in some Nasi Kandar restaurants (not Nasi Kandar stall because selection wise is not wide) & most Malay stalls & restaurants selling Nasi campur (mix rice). Bergedil (Beef/Chicken/Fish cutlets) can be eaten on its own or with Soto (Beef/Chicken kind of soup) or Lontong (rice cubes in coconut gravy with cabbage, carrot, long beans, eggs, mung bean threads & tempeh) Not advisable to buy those drinks from the stalls because it's not original. They are mostly too high in sugar & just flavourings added. Just stick with sugar cane juice, chrysanthemum or soya drink. These are original. Yes, the tepung pelita is almost similar to the ones you ate in Bangkok.
