Coach you're missing out. They've been at this now for almost 9 years since they were 9(Ale, bass) 11(Pau,drums), and 13( Dani, guitar). Their early music was mostly covers, competently done, if a bit rough. Metallica invited the best acts in the world for this project. This is the best effort I've heard, and that includes people like Corey Taylor and Volbeat.

Hope you checked out their cover of Sandman that they did 7 yrs ago and their cover of "Atlas Rise". There's plenty more to check out too other than their newest singles "Choke" and "Evolve". They are new too many people but they actually have already played many live shows opening for big acts like Def Leppard and Stryper. There are two LP's and an EP already in their catalog. The next EP in a few weeks!

When they first covered it in 2014, Dany was 14, Pau 12, and Ale 9. It's amusing watching reviewers start with "that's cute, three little girls about to play Enter Sandman" to "they're not playing at it!". They first played together as a band in public at a school holiday pageant in 2012; they played Got Gave Rock and Roll to Us. The 2014 cover of Enter Sandman was one of many they did around then that were posted simply for the benefit of family members who didn't live in Monterrey, so they could see the girls' progress as a band. It somehow got picked up and went viral. I believe that at that time they already had aspirations to become a professional band, and the reaction to Enter Sandman opened doors for them. This song has of course always been very important to them, and Metallica was a big influence. In a way, then, this comes full circle; they're paying homage to their influence while simultaneously declaring their own identity (although they've done plenty of that over the past 5 years). I've listened to all of the Enter Sandman covers on Blacklist, and this is the only one that wasn't simply a stylistic interpretation of the original, but in many ways a novel song of its own.

What I love about this is the way The Warning (and their producer on this track, Matt Squire) incorporated Alessia’s vocal style in this song. I think she’s amazing, BUT heavy rock isn’t her natural lane…so the arrangement gives her a gateway into Sandman without sacrificing its intensity. It’s every bit as dark as Metallica’s version, but The Warning found beauty in the darkness. Love your reactions. Thank you.

If anything, the beauty of this version only highlights the darkness. The recitation in the original is a bit creepy; Pau makes it downright eerie, after which the intensity builds to Dany's scream and the primary motif finally makes its entrance at the very end, hard and heavy as can be.

Metallica asked all the artists for the blacklist to turn their songs inside out upside down and sideways. They didn't want covers they wanted reimaginings and recreations.... The Warning and Alessia did exactly that to great effect!

A great reaction as always! :) I knew you'd love this! :) This was a brilliant masterpiece arrangement and performance by The Warning. Even the video direction was brilliant with its ghostlike nightmare feel (and great clever details like the sped up shot of Pau's face right before the prayer section, like in a horror movie), and the sound mastering and mixing was flawless. This was perfect all around. This song will be the first track on the Blacklist album, and the song will be featured in a video game and has been picked up by Fox Sports as well. Hopefully this will get The Warning a lot of very well deserved exposure. :)

I am going to get to see Metallica (for the first time!) and The Warning in November. Metallica invited 53 artists to create a rendition of any song off the _Metallica_ album (a.k.a. the Black Album), and to do it in any way they choose. This is The Warning's amazing arrangement along with Canadian Grammy winner Alessia Cara. (By the way, you aren't the only ones to mispronounce her name. lol) I loved your reaction!!! For once, for a current band, I am ahead of you as I have actually seen this before, so was quietly and smugly, awaiting your reactions at certain points! But then you are ahead of me in some ways as I am not really familiar with the original! What I do know from the various 'behind the scenes' stuff and the (multitude of!) The Warning channels is that they were concerned about working with the record/production company they are now with (not sure of how long a deal they have, but hope it does them justice) as they did not want to be told how to do things. From what I have seen it has been, if anything at all, the reverse, with three strong-willed ladies saying "we want to do it like this .." and everybody else going, "um, ok ... oh, OH, that is really good, ok, go ahead .." So, from not knowing the original I can only imagine how this cover version evolved and came to be, and I expect that this has their stamp firmly on it: which any cover really should have in my view - why record the same as the original? The voices blend and harmonise so well and make what would have been a damned good song and make it a really excellent one. The videography also helps with this but does not get in the way of the music.

If you watch the interviews with there producer David and the recording engineer you will see they will fight for there music vision no fear of that and the fact that they negotiated with Lava for 7 months (there usually about 3 to 4 weeks) and that Lava was willing to take time and effort to go thru that tells you what Lava thinks they can do .

The deal is reported to be for five albums. They will be issuing the first half of the first of these albums as an EP, Mayday, on October 8. Reportedly, they demanded -- and got -- full creative control, control over their previous music, and they kept their Patreon, which I understand most labels don't like to do as it provides an independent income stream. Indeed, Lava's page for The Warning lists their Patreon URL as their first social media link.

The actual reason it's first is probably more prosaic; the tracks are in the same song order as the original, and within each track, they're in alphabetical order by listed artist, and Alessia Cara came in first in that regard. Regardless, it's very much worthy of being the first track and is an absolute barnburner.

@G. Garcia Sure. The original comes in.with that instrumental riff they had at the end, and ends with a slow fade out. The ladies, at the suggestion of Lars actually, played it backwards, fading into the song, and ending very hard on that main guitar riff. The arrangement of their version is almost completely new and unique, pure genius! That their understanding of musical theory was good enough to do it in 1week, at their young age is mind blowing! And for the record I listened to this a dozen times before it was pointed out to me. Really go over to Old Skule Nerd's channel and watch his analysis. It's long but brilliant.
