As the grandson of an Australian that fought in PNG for 2+ years. Toward the end of his life he started to talk about his wartime experiences occasionally. He confirmed the fact that prisoners weren't taken unless intelligence wanted some taken. He said jungle fighting often descended into medieval hand to hand fighting with whatever you could kill someone with. The Japanese gained strength from their cultural upbringing, my grandfathers unit gained their strength from wanting revenge.
@finished62672 жыл бұрын
My father said the same about his time in Vietnam near the end of his life. He said even though the VC were no match for him and his guys in the jungle hand to hand, they just kept coming. I had no idea what he went through. I took him into my friends airsoft shop, and set I'm up with an m-16. He he shot one shot, handed the gun to me and said: 'I want to go now. And I don't want to come back here again boy, understand "? I didn't understand, he was an armed individual, etc. I suppose the gun triggered him.

History teachers aren't necessarily historians. My history teacher from high school was great, but I wouldn't qualify him as a "historian." My college history professor would probably be a good historian, though, if he wasn't one already. Frankly, Dan Carlin is more of a historian than a lot of history teachers. The history process is one of picking a subject, researching the subject, analyzing the research, and more or less coming to some sort of meaningful (and new) conclusion/insight. Dan probably does that a lot more than a lot of history teachers do.

"@2:59:55 "I have a line in the sand psychologically speaking where on the far side of that line I can't say what you have I just know you're on the far side of the line and most of us you know normal people are on this side of the line and the dividing line is people who seriously refer to themselves regularly in the third person." Deep as well as literal laugh out loud funny.
