As most can see, mine is pretty much gray as can get. I will say this using your tips. 1 - The biotin/jello/collagen vitamins daily have made it grow twice as fast as it used to. 2 - Just started cold water rinsing and it now lays down a lot easier and straighter. 3 - It must be the castor oil that I never realized because my now #1 go too that has taken this thing from frizzy to smooth and blowing in the wind is - I have been using your "Butter Hack" and been taking a thumbnail full of Honest Amish Beard Balm and hitting/mixing a squirt of Always Beardiful Sea Captain in with it at night and nothing has worked better on taming my scrubble. I may smell like walking into a Fine Florist Shop, but I sleep like a teenager and wake up fresh and ready to go. I didn't really realize (or shameful on me that I don't really read the ingredients as I should) that Always Beardiful has castor oil in it and buy it because it does work great and I really enjoy their stuff and hey it's cheap so hard to go wrong with it. I do the same thing lately in the morning with their Texas Ranger and the Honest Amish Balm. But all in all I found your Butter Hack to work the best out of anything I have tried and now I understand why, and thanks for all the wealth of knowledge on this subject. Also others that seem to work for that best in beard have been Man Beard Co and Chesapeake Beard Co oils, though I don't see Castor Oil in their ingredients but those seem to be the best in beard feel for my gray until I tried your hack.

I can absolutely confirm the benefit of a nice wax. Just got some Valhalla beeswax based stuff last week after trying to avoid waxes since I started the journey and it has been a quantum leap in making the (numerous) greys manageable. Used it once and they felt soft, easier to style and just healthier feeling for days, and somehow it didn't block oils. Castor is definitely good too, thinner beard oils don't do a lot in my experience. You're the man Dan!

Later in the day I use Jojoba oil and in the evening I use Shea Butter. Occasionally I will use VO5 leave in conditioner or a beard balm. Seems to work for my grey beard. The struggle is real. Trying to manage gray beard hair is like trying control a roomful of toddlers or herding cats. I have more salt than pepper and instinctually have been leaning towards heavier oils and less frequent washing with stripping washes. Actually, I have been using Fable Beard Co The Barkeep with some success (seems to be a mildly stripping wash). Thanks to everyone I'll now be trying deep conditioning. New to bearding, only four months in, and I have been met with favorable responses from strangers. I'm going to let it grow until the fork becomes unmanageable, it appears that I have a patch right above my adams apple and my chin hair is really slow growing. So from what I've researched it's going to equal a fork.

Thank you for the informative video. As you can tell by my profile pic my beard is 98% white. My daily routine is I wash it every morning with Mountaineer beard wash (wv coal scent), then I use Paul Mitchell conditioner (The Conditioner, its a leave in conditioner) leave that in while I finish showering, the use about a quarter size amount and massage it into my beard thoroughly, leave it in gently pat dry my beard, then with light heat I’ll blow dry from underneath my beard, with light heat I’ll blow dry it straight down, turn the heat up and with a round brush I’ll brush from underneath and apply more heat as I’m straightening my beard and following the brush with the blow dryer. After that I apply Beardbrand Old Money oil, starting from the follicle out to the ends (making sure the ends get plenty of oil), finish getting ready for the day, then I’ll apply about an index fingertip dollop of Beardbrand Old Money utility balm. And I ha e an extra bottle of Old Money oil I keep in my pocket to reapply several times throughout the day. This routine works perfectly for me and my Santa replica beard. Hope some of my tips will help any of the guys with a white, or graying beard (any color beard). As George Bruno aka “The Sultan Of Silver” has quoted before, “let it grow, and let it flow”. I’m at 18 months now and I do go to a beard salon every 3 weeks for a haircut and beard trim. Beard on my bearded brothers!

Happy to know my white hairs are supposed to be thin. While "deep conditioning" techniques don't appeal to me, I do co-wash, apply leave-in conditioner, oil, and balm or butter. Balms and many butters have some wax (although I've preferred less). I comb up-and-out, then down. I'll see if hands-down makes a difference. Even my long white whiskers are curled; the black ones are curled or zig-zagged. I may try a heavy, castor-oil-based oil although I wasn't impressed with using U.S.P Castor Oil or beard oils with castor oil as their last carrier. I think white whiskers still benefit from light, penetrating oils. I keep my beard at 3.5 to 4 inches. Most of the fly-aways are on the sides where letting them grow long makes for a poor appearance. Good suggestions, but I don't know if I'm ready to revise just about everything I do.

Every once in a while though, there's just nothing you can do. Fortunately, I have a very thick, very curly beard and 9 times out of 10, I can just push the gray hair into the others and they keep them down.

👍. I remember when I first saw gray hairs on my head. I was in my teens and was like wtf... I would pluck them out. Fast forward to now; I embrace them! It’s all part of the process. It happens. I only have a few gray hairs around the ears on my head and it’s not noticeable at all since my head hair has so much volume, it’s so damn thick. In the beard itself, I’ve got 2 gray hairs. They’re buried under the rest of my beard. A lot of the time, you’re the only one that’s going to notice these small details. You’re constantly looking at your beard, dissecting every single inch of it. Don’t worry about it, it’s all good! I LOVE Castor Oil. One of my very favorite oils. I always look for it when I’m looking at the ingredients list. I love the way it feels in the beard. For me personally, it just really absorbs well and coats the hair well. Gives my beard some more volume and I love it! Love the tips you gave out, all very well thought out. I think the best tip is to embrace it.. just go with it. It’s nothing to be ashamed of!

I've been gray since I was 28, 21 years ago, I always have a short beard in the winter... but it has gotten worse since I let it grow... I don't mind strangers or kids, but it's the same two or three jerks at work that are unrelenting daily with the comments... I decided to do a temporary color rinse, I went blue for the holidays this year... lol

My gray is pretty much white and it’s dense in the chin area but a blend of auburnish brown and gray for the mustache and what would the mutton chops if that’s where I saved it. Strange thing about my facial hair is it tends to be Auburnish before the gray came in and the hair on top of my head is dark brown. I love my gray beard. Also there is very little gray up top.

Great video Dan! Lots of good tips there. I have a couple of grey patches at the front of mine. I do find thicker oils seem to work better. I didn’t know that about castor oil though. I will have to check out which oils have it. Grey hairs are definatly a lot harder to control than the others, they seem to stick up out of nowhere! Lol. Thanks for the helpful info! :)

Just watched your most recent styling video and THEN I came here. I think this is more the vid for me, but the question I asked there is still applicable! Thanks for us salt and pepper or all salt guys for this vid! I've seen the deep conditioning videos, and dang, that's a lot of steps. Food for thought.

Good info, I tried the castor oil with mango and it turned by beard a light color, lol, so I needed to get the plain castor oil. I have to try and maintain the knots that I get.
@DanCBearded5 жыл бұрын
For sure try the plain

I am about 4 months into my yeard. I have some gray in my sideburns and alot on my chin. The ones on my chin do their own thing and are really wavy and like to stay separate from the rest of the beard. It can be frustrating at times.
