Horton is a modern dance technique developed by Lester Horton which inspired people like Alvin Ailey and Bella Lewitzky. Its broad range of expression incorporates clean body lines, working with a parallel leg against a turned-out leg, and a feeling of dancing outside the body. The vocabulary includes flat backs, lateral t's, and release swings. I recommend "Introduction to Modern Dance Techniques" by Joshua Legg for a comparative study of the different modern dance techniques, including Horton.

I am so amazed at how folks like you are so discerning in looking at the form dancers display when doing dance. I learn so much from reading expert commentary from people like you regarding an art form I, as videographer, know so little about. Thank you so much for the comment. Best, Bob Moran

The class was fun to tape. The kids learned a great deal from two guys who know the drill in terms of modern dance and how teach kid in making it happen for them.

I love the enthusiasm of the young dancers! Just out of curiosity, are they students in a women's college? It seems like a big group to have absolutely NO young men or people of color participating (except for the instructors).
