i think the confidence in their movements really makes this cover for me. not only can you tell they're feeling themselves, but it NEVER stops, there's never really a point when the confidence dies down. loona is definitely the kind of group that gives it everything they've got, especially in terms of dance.

honestly? i’ve been thinking about that for months too 😭 i’m not sure if it’s because of my bias (i stan loona of course) or because i’m genuinely so captivated by them performing this dance. to be honest i wasn’t that impressed with their fire cover... it was great but it didn’t tell me anything about loona i didn’t already know. maybe that’s why i regard this cover much higher? i knew the girls could dance but this cover was so much different from what i expected from them i screamed when i watched it! i’m not a fan of NCT but i do remember seeing this choreo back then and loving it so i wasn’t sure of what LOONA would do. but you’re right it definitely became something else. orbits like to joke about it now being LOONA’s song and with how often they perform it now it really does feel like that lol they also went viral in korea with this video and according to a fansign account, haechan (nct member) saw the cover and said they (loona) did better than them (NCT) 🥰 anyway thank you for the analysis! you pointed out so many small details i didn’t think much about before just like in your butterfly video ☺️ thank you for putting so much care and effort into this! btw your accent is so lovely 💕

Your favourite (Heejin) has said before she prefers these kinds of dances and wants to show that girls can do this type of choreo too, or that she doesn't want women to be limited to one type of choreo.

i also think heejin (your favorite) shines so much in this cover!!! she has so much charisma and her movements look so casual and cool, yet they still have so much impact!!! how does she do that?? i'm not sure how to properly explain but her dancing seems effortless (even though i know she works crazy hard!!) i also think that this more boyish style suits her incredibly well. anyway thank you for reacting to more loona!!! i love to have your insight into their performances!
@decide2think4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Heejin can go from debut cute to mixnine sexy to boyishly powerful so easily. And note with her consummate “being a model” awareness, even with everyone’s hair flying all around, she brilliantly is able to show off her face most of the time.

Heejin tends to practise and train with more male choreo than female.

I also really like heejin's (your fav) style of dancing. like she isn't as hard hitting type of dancer like yves (lime string lady) but when she does she makes it look so easy? it sort of looks soft but it's really not? i can't really explain it 😅😅 but she's my fav member in terms of dancing

This was the first Loona video I ever saw, and I immediately loved Heejin (your favorite) and Choerry (pink hair) they get the explosive part of this dance so well. And they are so cool doing it, no hesitation. I want to mention that the last cut that you mentioned, it’s there to add all the members in, they didn’t use everyone until that point. Also, I like loona’s version better too, but I can’t really place why.

Great dancer review and I totally agree with you. I also like this version over the original. Btw, I’ve seen many reactions to this performance and on 2 occasions the reactors (who mainly watch boy groups) said that the girls should pull their hair back to keep it out of the way. But I say, Why?... So they look more like a boy group? Much of the power and appeal is in their hair movement! Also at 26:00 with the 5 dropping to the floor... Olivia (center) and Yves (left) hit it perfectly as you describe just on their backs with no slight arm break added.

I know during the edited parts that some members swap over. You have 9 in the beginning, first edit happens and two members swap, (one member wasn't able to take part in this cover), then second edit happens and then 11 girls are there. Yeojin the youngest member of loona was 17 at the time. Blondie is go won, lime string lady is yves and probably the best dancer of loona, pink haired lady is choerry, your favourite is heejin and heejin is also my favourite so welcome to the club haha.

Loona have more members than nct 127, but nct 127 is like a sub unit of nct. There's also nct dream, and nct u. Its very complicated and I'm no expert lol

I love that their hair is down, I think it adds a lot of fluidity and extra movement, which adds to the cool dichotomy of 'soft' bodies doing 'hard' movements. One of my favorite moments is 22:25, in the original I think it looks kind of silly but their hair makes such a beautiful shape when they do the head flick its supremely satisfying to watch lol
@RougeLino4 жыл бұрын
i think the reason why you prefer this one is same as me. i prefer the feminine waves and those premouvements they do (like breathing before hitting a powerful mouvement). at first i thought they coudn't be as robotic and hit straight powerful mouvs like nct but i watched some predebut choreos and "so what" so i know they can and they did that on purpose. i think it changes everything.
@kimtran74864 жыл бұрын
OMG i never thought about how them having their hair down and all up in their faces actually adds to the dance performance, the whole time i was just thinking about how annoying it would be for me if my hair was like that lmao, but it really does add something to their performance! the way their hair hangs down and partly covers their faces so that their glowering gazes pierce even more sharply and intensely to the audience?? and how the way they flip and whip their hair around, especially choerry (pink haired lady hehe) during her center part (at 24:23 in this video)?? it feels so passionate and adds so much Drama!! it's another part of them that they can utilize to enhance their gestures and their performance as another extension of their bodies that almost even feels like it has a life of its own sometimes the way it flies up and all over the place the long hair is another added flair they have here that the original nct 127 dance doesn't :O

This is the first time I commented on your videos so I feel a bit nervous. I'm not familiar with Loona and I knew them through this dance cover since I knew about NCT 127. I've seen a lot of comments saying this dance is not girls type of dancing, but they did great. I don't know if it's just my pride, but that kind of comments bother me a lot. I think both groups did great and I, as a non dancer, enjoyed both performance a lot. For me the choreography is gender neutral, but the way both groups delivered it was different. I also prefer the cover, but have no words as to why, I just did 😁 Your explanation help me a lot to understand what I like from this cover. Thank you for this video, I really enjoyed it

I have watched this dance cover an UNGODLY amount of times! I even did run-throughs for each member, only focusing on them. I thought I might touch on a couple of things and I very much agree with your fangirling! ^_^ First, as someone who's probably more familiar with the group, I'm pretty sure each of those edits was to introduce more of the members into the dance. In the first cut(19:06), they switch out Yeojin(red shoe laces) and Vivi(bangs, untucked shirt) for Jinsoul(blonde closest to mirror) and Hyunjin(black and white shoes), and in the second cut(23:55), they add back Yeojin and Vivi thus starting out with 9 and ending with 11. Second, at 16:36 just want to put some respect on Choerry's name (light purple hair) for spinning up from the ground and hitting the beat! Third, 19:10 ~ 19:17, the way Jinsoul(blonde closest to the mirror) hits these moves just makes me feel some type of way... And finally, 26:39 ~ 26:46, the subtle way Jinsoul(blonde closest to the front) goes from facing forward to tilting her head down...makes me feel some type of way...

It really does have its own personality. You know it's the same dance but the tiny minute differences in movements gives it its own flair. And I think almost all, if not all, those differences were deliberate because all of them do it that different way specifically. I personally also like it over the original NCT 127 version, because of the natural femininity, in opposition to all the sharp hits and angles of the dance. The contrast between the soft and hard, tension and relaxation is extremely pleasing to watch, a prime example for this is near the beginning when the purple haired member (Choerry) takes center, and the part after that too. A reason for the cut right before the "cooldown part" with "your favorite" (Heejin) in the center, is that they actually add the remaining members to the formation as well, if you look closely, a couple more members pop in at the sides.
@jime6083 жыл бұрын
Yes!!! Choerry's control during her part was so cool to watch I loved how she executed that!

The reason I prefer it to the original is to me it seems boy groups are so concerned with hitting moves hard that they aren’t as synchronized. It’s a problem I’ve had with most guy groups. But girl groups seem to be more concerned making sure everyone is in sync which in my opinion is more visually appealing. Groups like Gfriend and Dreamcatcher.
@SixtyDoesStuff4 жыл бұрын
Immediately I am SUPER into such masculine moves from women. I also somehow didn't realize before now there were such clearly masculine and feminine moves between male and female groups. WILD. It's usually softer, sensual, lithe, curved movements for the ladies, but the angles, the power, the confident, swagger movements. That's interesting about the hair, I love long hair for the movement it adds to a dance. Like at 24:20 when they're all bent down with their hair hanging. And ALL the hair flips. I agree, though, it's distracting when you see a dancer pushing it back out of their face. MORE LADY GROUPS WITH "MASCULINE" SWAGGER MOVES PLEASE. I am in love with the whole group hopping to their left on the beat. Re: hitting it harder with the movements on the snare. There's something to be said for anticipation, even briefly. So I think it makes sense that the sort of "tell" has a more pronounced effect. Because you feel it coming a moment before it does. The end where they're spreading their legs so wide is ALSO cool as members are also stepping out to the sides, making the whole scene wider as they're widening their stance and WOW. Holy crow, this dance is AMAZING.

Hello hello! I’m back with my long comments! There are originally two different dance practice versions for this song; cherry version which is filmed like a performance video, and bomb version which is a still cam and you can analyse all the members and their moves better, I’d recommend watching that one as well, personally it helped me analyse the all the members better and compare the two versions more clearly! Oh and for once I actually know the choreographer! (I’m so proud of myself!!) His name is Tony Testa and he’s absolutely incredible. He’s pretty popular, he’s worked with a bunch of world-renowned artists and I really like how unique and interesting his pieces are. He also paid special attention to the strengths of the members when making this choreography for them, and made sure they got their moments to shine. That being said, and this is me being biased because NCT is one of my favourite groups and also because I’ve watched the original more times that necessary, but I like the original version more? I think it’s because that one has more sharp, angular, and really aggressive arm movements and that’s what defines the choreo for me now but this one is naturally much softer because of the way the girls are built and trained. This is not to say this isn’t a phenomenal cover, which it totally is, and I think I appreciate it a lot more now that I’ve gained your insight into it! You’re right when you say Loona has more members than NCT 127 (pronounced one two seven - it’s a subunit of NCT with 9 members, all of NCT actually has 21 members) So Loona has only two more members but their aura is so much stronger when they do that wide leg part! I can’t tell whether it’s because they’re all wearing such similar black clothes or the way that they encompass their entire practice room that they look like a lot more people than they actually are? And their synchronization is Insaaaane they look like one giant body expanding boundlessly. It’s not my favourite part in the original but it’s definitely my favourite part in this cover! Another thing I think these girls do really well is right before that part, when they fall on their backs at @25:26. In the original, the guy in the centre (taeyong), spreads his legs far too wide and positions his feet outwards, and as he falls his ankles bend outwards (which is normally anatomically impossible but maybe he’s hyperflexible) and he lands really far away from his legs and hard on his back. Though it looks cool it must be super uncomfortable and definitely makes him prone to injury. Yet each of these girls stabilize their forms extremely well; they spread their legs not too far away from their hips, their feet face forwards, and they land with their legs almost right underneath their hips, some even use their hands to stabilize the fall. The girl with the pink hair (choerry) almost does a yoga pose and lands on her knees first to prevent falling hard on her back. It’s so satisfying to watch and I’m not praying for their joints every time I replay it. The dance break at @20:44 is my actual favourite part of the entire choreo and it has some really cool moves like the part at @20:51 is where they’re playing billiards or the part that comes right after it, the copping motion that you said? They’re actually dealing cards and I’m pretty sure there are other references too, it looks like they’re saying something like “we’re aces at the game, no matter which one it is” and it’s So COOL. I’m kind of disappointed they didn’t cover the whole thing because there are some stellar parts that I would’ve liked to see their version of, like around two minutes into the song they do kind of a pinwheel formation? And right before that when they sing “If you’re happy and you know it clap you’re hands yo” they do, what the fans have infamously dubbed, the pennywise dance 😂 This choreo has such an interesting mix of really cool suave moves and then some really weird and funny moves too, like the little goblin dance as you so hilariously put it. It always puts in in such a ~mood~ I love it so much! One last thing, this style is obviously not what these idols are trained for, yet they manage to pull it of amazingly, and it just proves that girl groups can and should be given choreographies like this more often. There are girls that actually have training in b-boying/b-girling and hip-hop (I can think of Blackpink’s Lisa, or Weki-Meki’s Yoojung to name a few) yet we never find out unless they do covers. Moonbyul’s Eclipse is the only choreography that comes to mind that was given a traditional boy group-esque choreography but I wish that there were more. This is not to say girl groups/female soloists don’t have some great choreographies in the genres they already do! I just wish this confident, powerful style was seen more often that’s all. And I’m finally done! As always, your breakdowns are a pleasure to watch, thanks for always putting out such great content Riki! Have a nice day! 💖

first off, your'e wonderful. :D I love both versions and I think this all comes down to (how can I put this delicately) male vs female sexuality. I saw this LOONA cover and was blown away by it only a couple of weeks after knowing NCT 127 existed. (Fell head over heels for 127 through Yuta's dancing). Male sexual energy, with exceptions of course, is wham-bam-thank you ma'am. This comes through ever so clearly in NCT's version. After that those guys are either falling asleep, or outta there to climb a mountain or something. Most females prefer a slower build-up. Our sensuality is part of OUR power, and of course, long hair as well which LOONA put to amazing good use in their version. I rarely watch female Kpop because most of the choreography is boring to me, but LOONA's version of Cherry Bomb was an amazing middle finger to all the girlie stuff and a challenge to NCT 127 on a male Kpop level that was just delicious. Thanks so much for this!
@saraellington91394 жыл бұрын
"delicious" lol YES I love the way you articulated this and totally agree! I think the different camera work in this one and 127's original also helps captivate the difference in LOONA's collective sensuality and confidence, versus following individual members around for their own intense moments.

i love this reaction SO so much. i've watched shit tons of reaction videos to this cover but yours is something special. Now, perhaps one (among hundreds) of the reasons i prefer this cover from the original is this sense of spotlight i feel from both covers. from nct's, i feel like the spotlight is being directed by a third person which kinda gives a slight "forced" feeling of it. while in loona's, the spotlight is being directed within them. Like during parts where one member should stand out, the spotlight is being given by her fellow members AND she's taking it. Or during parts where no one in particular should stand out, i just have this feeling that the spotlight is being distributed by the group among them through their movements. also, your favorite's name is heejin (which is also my favorite :D).

I prefer LOONA's as well and am also not totally sure why. (aside from the camera choices). It might be that NCT's is a bit more one-note with the aggression. LOONA seems to allow for more range there... more cheekiness and play along with aggression and intensity. A little more fluid. Dunno. I also think the ladies had more unified movement and choose to do some things more in-the-pocket than NCT, which I prefer. Also hairography, which they do so well!

soooo... looking at the comment section, this is an absolute unpopular opinion here. But I am biased the other way around and I am well aware of my bias. Cherry bomb is an oldish song. I know that song and the choreo since couple of years and I fell in love with it immediately as it came out and watched it countless times. As much as I love Loona's rendition of this cover (believe me I do), I am used to see it in that other original version, so I know I just cannot judge anyone else doing that choreo fairly. It's just that this is the choreo which made me fall in love with NCT choreos in general and has a special place in my heart. So I look for that aggressive energy when I watch it, so in the end I prefer the NCT version.

I prefer this version too, and tho I suppose it's because they're beautiful girls (sorry, I'm a simple man), I think it also comes from their expressions and little signature moves they added/modified to make this dance their own version like you said.
