A lot of the baseball references in the dance are hand gestures you will see in baseball. For example, the one with Hoshi in the beginning (with Jun and Dino) where they are moving their thumb/hand side to side usually is supposed to be a strike (done by the umpire). Joshua with his arm straight up with one finger pointed out is a gesture for infield fly. Jeonghan with his spin part in the second chores, where he twirled his finger around, gesture for a homerun.
@ElliottNewVillage4 жыл бұрын
This is tight! I don’t play baseball so these references definitely go over my head. Shoutout for noticing!

I also wanna add, from a musician standpoint that there’s even more layers to this tied to the baseball theme as well. In music (but specifically in Jazz), when we wanna make a rhythm sound ‘jazzier’ we “swing it”, which in combination with the baseball theme of the MV and the general Big Band groove of the song, makes it even more clever. I’m not a Carat but holy hell I was so impressed with this musically and also choreography-wise (because like Elliott mentioned, they managed to encapsulate the feel and style of the music into the choreography) and I really would love to see them perform this at an awards show sometime in the future.

Thank you for highlighting The8's "spin"! Always my fave and wi never get tired watching it (in awe) lol
@rhaisa83044 жыл бұрын
I couldn't help but share this, so regarding the8's ending move (the one where he spins on his toes then transitions to spin on his knees) is actually a move taken from his previous martial art sport called Wushu but specifically in the sub-type Taolu. It's not the whole move but the part where he spins on his toes is a move called the Inside Sweep and it's done mostly by snapping your hips and letting your foot follow the direction of it with your hands adding speed to the twist by being tossed to the same direction but towards the chest. Because I'm practicing wushu, the first time I saw the move I instantly knew that The8 had once again mixed a move from Taolu with his bboy techniques and it never fails to amaze me how seamless he's able to mix them together and create his very own moves. Kudos to The8 for another wonderfully mixed technique and to Elliot for mentioning it. This is another great analysis/reaction video by the way, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!! I hope you stay safe and warm!!

Elliott this was such a phenomenal analysis and I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. I was absolutely blown away and I’m in love with just how layered this is, from the music and the choreography to the lyrical and physical references. It’s downright impressive. Like I mentioned in a response to a comment below, one of the things that blew me away was the connection between baseball and music and how they chose to represent that in the song/choreography/video. When we (because I’m a musician) want to make a rhythm sound jazzier in music, we say to “swing it” which is a cool parallel to how they say “swing” as in swinging a bat in baseball. Seeing those two combined in one video was such a clever and refreshing idea and I couldn’t be more impressed with Seventeen for how they executed this. I’m personally not a Carat, but I thoroughly enjoyed this and can’t wait to see what else they’ve got coming our way in the future. 👏

OMG yassss Elliott!!! I honestly am so obsessed with Home Run, and a huge part of that is the choreography. It's so innovative and different and I love how you broke down some of the different moves too. The formation changes and transitions are some of my favorite parts since it seems like they're never in one formation for too long - ever flowing, ever changing. It was also great to see you appreciate The8 so much because SAME. I love rewatching this dance practice for The8's hat and the ending pose! Also, I'm hyped to see your dance cover of Home Run!!!
