Dancing Figures Musical Cuckoo Clock with Dancing Platform and Regula 25 Movement Part 1

This movement and dancing platform are unusual. The platform turns from a wheel on the music box. Nothing from the movement attaches to the platform. This video goes over disassembly of the clock, movement, and dancing platform.

When the music stops, it stops because the arm went back in the barrel. When the cuckoo triggers the arm out of the barrel and that is when the other wire gets in the way of the fan. You only wish the dancers have wire in them, they are just plastic and easy enough to Super Glue them back on. I've never seen a dancer platform like your. How nice. I was lucky the figures didn't break off. I thought the platform and way it was run was different than most. I enjoyed working on it. It's been running great on the test stand for days. Got to find a place on the wall for it now. Thanks for the comments!

It is nice that you posted the music box in the cuckoo clock that you are repairing. The trigger mechanism for the music box that you have is very unusual. I have repaired and rebuilt hundreds of cuckoo clocks and only seen probably two of that type of trigger mechanism. Probably it was too expensive to build and they went with the more conventional one that is used today. The plastic gears in the governors are no longer available through Black forest imports. good luck on your ventures.

Thank you. When it comes time, I'm going to try to make a replacement wheel. I'll video my trials and errors. Should be a good laugh if nothing else! I like the trigger on the lift lock lever. It works well. Running good with 275 gm weights.

Cant sleep. LOL. My friend Ron instead of opening the bellow wire that comes off the bellow opens the circle for the lift arm which it is actually easier to deal with in the wrong run. I like your screw removal tool. I dont think they started using those clips that take that special tool (instead of the eclips) until the 60s. Sometimes 320 grams can run this unit. I agree that the case looks similar to Schmeckenbecher but on your Schmeckenbecher clock it has an attachment to the movement for the music system to work. Again I dont believe that your clock is a Schmeckenbecher clock. I agree with the art work as one would think that the person that originally carved that type system might start a fight that they were copying their art work but I dont know how that worked. I have a chalet clock with the man and woman. Time only. Regula 25 movement that shows it was made in 1980 in W Germany but isnt made by Schmekcenbecher that has the green cuckoo door. You have done a great job on this clock so far. I really like the fact that it is metal and not plastic. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing part 2. God bless.

Good to hear about the green door on a different maker, but 20-30 years prior was anyone using the green door and roof carving?

At the 7 min 24 second mark and looks like the plastic wheel for the musical governor might be cracked. I guess I will find out as I continue to watch the video. I dont think it is a Schmeckenbecher as they used their own little music set up to activate the music in all the musical cuckoo clocks made by Schmeckenbecher that I have seen. If it is then someone might have replaced the movement and that is why their name isnt on it. I have a Schmeckenbecher cuckoo quail movement that has a count wheel that was made right around the time frame that they started making clocks and it has their name on it but it only says Schmeckenbecher where later they put E Schmeckenbecher on their movements or whoever made their movements for them. It is 130 AM. I will continue watching more later.

where did you get that information from? Are you talking for the Regula 25 movement? Because Josef Burger started the Regula company long before that. I read on a NAWCC post where I asked a question on a Regula 3 movement where they mention a patent that they applied for the chain winding system in 1949 but due to post war it was approved in 1951. The person that said that told me that therefore the Regula 3 movement couldnt be before the 1950s. I didnt read it that way as the patent was for the chain winding system in Black Forest clocks. My clock movement had DRGM information on it and another person said that the GM was post war. WWII was from 1939-1945 so therefore it could have been made in 1945.

In watching your video, it seems like you were struggling to take the nuts off of the movement with the tools that you had. What you need is a 7/32 nut driver. Amazon part number W30921. This nut driver will be very helpful because you do so many cuckoo movements. If the outer diameter is a little too large for the lower left-hand corner nut where the lifter is at, then grind the outside of the nut, driver head down, so that it will fit with the lever installed.

Good advice. I have a socket set with a nice pistol grip socket wrench, but the metric wrenches were new-a gift from by husband-so I went straight to them.
