Better than a talk. A veritable conversation spoke with perhaps the most versatile and universal aspect of humanity that we all share in common--the body. That is the beauty of this, and is what makes it a hundredfold more telling than the average lecture ever could be.

The imagery utilized in dance has basically become visible to the audience's eyes. Great idea and a wonderful way to help amateur dancers (as well as the audience) to understand the deeper concepts of dance. I feel it will allow people to appreciate dance more as a professional performing art.

I thought this was incredible. If you'll look at what TED is about, it's all about spreading ideas. Dance is communicating ideas and feelings with motion. Music is communicating ideas and feelings with sound. Visual art is communicating ideas and feelings with images. Speaking is communicating ideas and feelings with words. So, in my opinion, all of these forms of communicating ideas and feelings have a place with TED.

It's too bad not that many people understand and appreciate dance as a discipline. There's so much more to dance than what we see on tv and at clubs. This piece utilized many elements of choreography that made it quite interesting, By using the lights, the choreographer was able to expand his/her artistic expression, which was the reason why this "talk" was so fascinating. It has potential to cause a revolution to the performing arts. I mean I'm sure it was inspired by many music artists (i.e.

Oh don't delete--just grow a slightly thicker skin. As an old dancer--I really liked this piece. Sure--the dancing was not what I'd call really world class--but then I grew up in NYC & danced in London & watching solid world-class dancers-- classical, modern, ethnic... This group is pretty good--but the cleverness in the use of the lighting tech is just SWEET! And I DO agree with you--anyone one who's complaining about "this is TED talks" clearly has forgotten what the E in TED stands for!

Ted isn't just for intellectual stimulation. It is for artistic and emotional inspiration. If you don't like the performance, fine. But don't be bitter and hate a perfectly creatively executed artist doing their thing on the ted stage because it isn't your thing or you don't agree with the venue.

As much as I love science and technology and new ideas, I also enjoy the occasional arts. I would very much like to see them preform in a studio environment where they could after the fact perfectly line the effects to the actions.

I realise that the literal name of this channel has the word "talks" in the name, but don't you feel that its unspoken greater brief is to stimulate thought and provoke conversation? Even if only for its technical accomplishment I think this performance qualifies. If you want to get literal TED and Director are missing from most posts too ;-)

This is A++++ performance, but once again, a performance where the videographers think they are more important than the performers by constantly changing camera angles, rather than staying stationery to let us watch the entire performance. We miss so much of the action when they focus on only one person performing, for example the high-wire lady. the worst is So You Think You Can Dance, where they constantly show the judges' faces , rather than keeping cameras on the dancers. Even when they do, they are constantly changing angles - - to what purpose, really? Because they can?
@Edeinawc
@Edeinawc 9 жыл бұрын
Mathroots SharpEdge I entirely agree with you, though I must say that I don't think it comes from some sort of arrogance from the film makers. I reckon they just don't understand, and that they try to make the performance more palatable for "casual" audiences, so to speak. I mean, don't even bring So You Think You Can Dance or any such nonsense to the discussion, that's quite off the radar, though that's surely a symptom of the disease. In the end the diseases itself is that not many of us would get our butts of the house to actually watch this in a theater where it's so supposed to be done, so we are relegated to this.

I have no problem with personal enrichment through the arts. I think the light show portion could have been done much better. The lights were prerecorded and the dancers were not always in sync with the light show. Would have been more interesting if the light show was actually interacting live with the dancers through some sort of motion capture system. It wasn't really exceptional enough to be moved emotionally by it. It was like they through it together a week before the performance.
