22:18 On that point, extra material in the manga volume for this chapter states it was some kind of "energy drink," hence why the boxing alien proceeds to sing quotes from a famous Japanese energy drink commercial afterward. Regarding the ending scene, it is obviously suggestive (albeit Momo and Okarun are so relieved to have escaped Void Space that they're simply expressing that rather than being aroused), but the main point is comedy. The anime especially plays this up by drawing everyone in a deformed style upon being discovered.

Sexual theme is integral part of human life, depicting human life that void of anything sexual is kind of hypocrisy and simply showing vanity. Not a single time in the anime that any uncomfortable depiction are being said “it is fine” scene, like in episode 9 Momo said that she would never forgive nor forget Serpoians because what they do to her. Nor any character forget that as Okarun immediately warned Aira to run as he recall the scene. Then it address naked runaway as bullied accident which made sense but even so it still hang over head of the characters that involved. Dandadan is depicting teenagers experiences in weird and wacky setting, and as far as i read and watch they do great jobs.

Thinking about, I think a good illustration of the difference between the battles in the series is this: The Strategic climax of each Dan Dan Dan arc fight (ie what the hero’s use to defeat each Alien or yokai) is roughly comparable to the first strategic move each jostar makes in their fights. Both are cool as fuck and 1000iq plays, but Dan Dan Dan is content with that, where as jojo, keeps escalating both in wit and absurdity to 1 trillion iq plays

Japanese business man! Finally another person that also thinks Jojo and Dandadan have a lot in common. I also am just an anime watcher for now (I do intend to go to the manga after the anime ends the current season), but since the early episodes you can already tell that there are a lot of similarities. At first I just thought "hey this new anime is very fun, its passing a vibe similar to Jojo's", but as more episodes were released, more I started to realize that the vibe is similar because a lot of elements on both series are also very similar. You already said in the video a lot of stuff they do equal/slightly different, so I'll add another one that you haven't mentioned already, which is the absurd/bizarre situations themselves. There are a lot of stuff on both series that it is very safe to assume that are the way they are simply because the writer wanted to draw a specific thing and worked his way to shape the plot/character actions/environment to fit it. What I'm saying is that the authors seem to think first on doing a cool/bizarre/funny scene and only after, if at all, think on a plausible reason for it to happen in canon. The cow scene at the end of episode 10 SCREAMS what I just said, about the author wanting to draw a cow abduction (afterall, it is one of the biggest alien tropes there is) and then working backwards to tie in the salary worker alien shrimp race's blood to milk so it has a reason to happen inside the story. It's probably also what happened in the school fight, with the naked hug in the hallway being the endpoint that made Okarun unable to find more clothes and eventually led to Nessie turning everything into blocks of water to make Momo also strip her school uniform (on this note of nudity in Dandadan, I find that it is handled pretty well because, although the characters do happen to lose their clothes on multiple occasions, it is not framed in a way to serve the infamous fan service, but more as a gag within the absurd context that surrounds it [aside from episode 1 in the whole Momo's abduction scene because in it there were some almost criminal emphasis, angles and framing]). In Jojo this is also pretty much the standard for the stand fights (only in the major fights does Araki put more thought into them) and even some stuff from parts 1 and 2 prior to stands, like the severed head still alive throw a rose with its mouth at the enemy, the from-the-pocket Tommy gun, Stroheim's waist gun (which by the way is something that I think directly inspired the serpo aliens), etc.

Also I agree with your take on how sexuality is conveyed in the series. The naked school scene is fine but episode one defo had some issues.

Honestly, for the naked scene, I see most people complaining that they're minors and that it was unnecessary for Momo to say, and I quote those comments, "Thank god you're hard", which isn't even true. For starters, I haven't watched the dub, but the manga and the anime subtitles said "Thank you FLOOR for being hard", it's pretty specified and it probably was meant in order to avoid the confusion that's causing this negative backlash. On a second note, what if she actually said it? I do understand that, well, they're minors, but it wasn't showing nothing extremely erotic, their nakedness was mostly ignored overall, it's not even that bad compared to MANY other anime, and, as a teenager myself, that's all that we ever think about!!!! Most if not all real life teenagers would've come up with the same or a similar phrase to say in that moment!!! It just makes the scene more natural, realistic, and overall enjoyable as it intensifies the reaction of their classmates!!! Seriously, guys! Stop arguing in the internet over silly stuff like this!! It's not worth it!!!

And since dandadan is pretty mainstream a lot of people are new to this stuff and not as desensitized. I like dandadan but there's plenty of scenes that are obviously drawn to be suggestive and therefore just not fun. There's a difference between showing teens being awkward with sexuality etc and teens being sexualized for an adult audience and I'm kinda tired of people pretending that there's no difference just because they've seen worse. I think dandadan dances with this idea a lot. Some scenes are just fun and some are very obviously drawn to arouse degenerate adults. The bar shouldn't be this much in hell. You can still like a show and acknowledge its problems.

First, you get a sub, dope content right here. Second, at 14:28, I understand where you’re going with this. In my mind, I would rephrase it to: sole actions taken (Jojo) vs actions taken that were inspired by characterization (DanDa). Jojo and Dandan both take on peculiar situations, but with Dandan, what seals the deal is how their character traits inform the actions they take as characters. Bundle that with the personal investment that I take on as a reader/watcher in their relationships and the world around them. Like you said with the exageration, they put that on 11 with dandadan, and take full advantage of the environment to get those laughs in. In an odd sense, DanDaDan has a bit more grounding in reality, despite all of the yokai and diddliens. There's always that connection to something real as a reader/watcher, and that genuine connection can let the DanDaDan crew take me for a ride, if it be the whole school watching me in the buff, or trying to talk to your all time crush. I love JoJo too btw.

honestly DanDaDan is lowkey based of Jojolion. DanDaDan definitely took the torch and moved it forward which is great, but Jojolion set the blueprint that allowed for the modern gonzo shounen to flourish. like every Jojo is Bizarre, and obviously no spoilers, but the absurdity truly reached it's peak in Jojolion. and despite it being a Seinen, i think it was a wake up call to Jump to allow for more experimental titles (resulting in Fire Punch, Spy x Family... and now CSM & DanDaDan)

It's honestly not that unique, Luffy has done a number of spinning attacks. Giant Gavel, Rifle, Pinwheel. Jojo SBR makes use of a frequently seen phenomenon in reality and utilizes it in a power system akin to Hamon. well, I agree with this to an extent. I see where you are coming from with the trading card comparison. I think Jojos is more Rock paper scissors because in HXH since everyone essentially has the same 'basic' Nen there's more wiggle room for winning fights (of course their specializations are vastly different. There's no blocking/protection mechanics like 'ten/ren/zetsu' in Jojo. In Jojo's stand abilities are soo random and so specific you can really be screwed if you run into the wrong person at the wrong time. While Hunters and Stand users both have to use their brains. I feel like there's less chance involved in HxH fights.

The adaptation has been pretty solid thus far. Only issue I personally had with the underwear scene was that in the manga the crowd actually chases after the gang as they try to escape. Which enhanced the comedy for me ten fold. Plus some other minor details here and there. As for how it's conveys sex...I think it's fine. It justifies itself with comedy and thematic ties to the topic quite well, but keep in mind I slurped up a lot of harem and ecchi in my teen years. So I am indifferent to matters that modern anime discourse typically shames in regards to fan service. Aira is a perfect example of one of the things I like most about Dandadan's character writing. Taking common high school manga tropes and subverting them in interesting ways in ways that make them feel human and charming. Momo the outgoing Gyaru having a tough time expressing her emotions, Okarun being a shy unpopular otaku that's outspoken and caring for others. Aira being the perfect popular girl being shallow, kinda dumb and mean is a common trope in shoujo, but flipping it by revealing she's actually super emotionally intelligent and empathetic to other people's needs. Even her initial impression of being a bit of a man eater is juxtaposed by her naivety. Makes for good heart warming moments and humour.

Woah that’s an interesting change. I think the crowd running after them is even funnier. I can’t wait to binge the manga. I believe the ending scene isn’t problematic . It was just funny. Especially because of the art style You’ve perfectly described how I feel about the main 3 characters. Especially what you wrote about Aira. She is growing on me a lot. She easily could have been more of the tsundere type character, I’m glad Tatsu didn’t go in that direction.

The author does like to mix the fan service with humour and thematic tying based on what I saw from his previous one shot.
