I had something of a history with The 4 Freshmen. While I was stationed in San Francisco 1952 on a Destroyer Escort I Happened to stroll by a Bistro type bar called Facks 11and was blown away the music coming from within. The sound was fabulous and the group was The 4 Freshmen. When I returned to The Ship I was singing the praises to a shipmate and the Freshmen and much to my surprise, the knew them personally. We returned the next night and he introduced us. Years later, I had the opportunity to work rather closely with them on several occasions when they play the local area. We became quasi friends, which is about all one can be in a situation that.Always nice, orderly and , and gentlemen.Sorry they are gone......but thankfully they left behind a backlog of great musicThank you Bob Prather from Columbus, Indiana for introducing us.

I graduated highschool in 1990.... one of my favorite bands back then (even though it wasn't "cool") was the beach boys.... I did some research and now I'm a HUGE FAN of the four freshman (at 44 years old). The jazz harmonies are so incredible and I feel a "kinship" to it.... what amazing musicianship.... I'm in awe of this music

Came back from the 2016 convention in Louisville just a few days ago. Enjoyed it a lot. They did a "Stardust" without the beautiful intro verse ("And now the purple dust of twilight time, steals across the meadow of my heart ...") .which is usually not sung by others. After the show I asked Curtis Calderon about that and he sang the next line of that intro ("High up in the sky the little stars climb...'') and said they hadn't had time to rehearse the intro but agreed about its beauty (which Sinatra loved enough to record alone W/O the rest of the standard's chorus!). I then asked Bob Ferreira about this and he said they had recorded Stardust awhile ago (b4 Calderon apparently) and i wondered if they did the intro verse then. Well, I just found that rendering right here and my hopes were disappointed 'cause they didn't do the intro back then either. Hopefully, my disappointment may get them to do it next time around which they seemed to indicate was soon.

Is there anything about this interpretation that is less than perfection? Hyperbole? I don't think so. These four were surely the best line-up since the 50s. Thanks guys. (And thanks to that tremendous jazz orchestra)
