I agree with you, Bart, 100%. The Four Freshmen can take you way back to those times when yow just wanted to listen to a group of singers and musicians that could deliver a song and let you just sit back and soak it in.

Boy, I love this song. And what a nice addition Sue makes. I used to listen to "The Four Freshmen" in the 50's and 60's. This song just calms me down. I listen to it several times a week. It wasn't meant for todays ears. It's for those of us that lived in a time when music was listened to, not words yelled. In my opinion.....

It IS meant for today ears too! But young men ears of today are not used to it anymore. Some of them have forgotten that music can heal. I'm pretty sure it will come back one day or another. Internet is evil BUT good too: You can re-discover lots of things from a more or less recent past. The four Freshmen, The Four seasons, les Doubles six ( produced by Quincy Jones in France), The beach boys... You name them. They'll never disappear

This music is AWESOME. It makes you wonder how today's music got so messed up. The words are not only beautiful but understandable.
@224643887 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Real music with melody and great words. Living in the past and loving it.
@MrJpartridge7 жыл бұрын
you are absolutely right - messed up is right - I don't know how it happened and I've been around since the forties and a musician and I haven't got a clue although the decline started with Rock and Roll (although there was good Rock) but how we descended into the musical stew of rap hip hop and whatever is beyond me
@MrJazzman313 жыл бұрын
This is the real deal. Everyone in this group studied music. Nowadays, with computers, samples, looping, autotune and almost automatic arrangements, anyone with an iota of a clue, can make "music". A lot of it is devoid of any soul. Add to that, the fact that record companies have forgotten what a volume control is for and continue to slam the radio with over compressed drivel. Today's music(commercial that is) seems to be dumbed down for the masses and the producers are afraid to take chances - or may not even have it in their repertoire:)

The tender respect the Freshmen show Raney on this number is, like the song, from another era.

Loved the Four Freshman back then---and just recently discovered jazz vocalist Sue Raney on some old audio tapes of performances she did with a Dallas-Fort Worth TX area big band (Harvey Anderson Orchestra). How amazing it is to watch all the vocalists on this clip sing and blend so perfectly on only one microphone. What an amazing sound!

I'm a die hard 4 Freshmen fan from the '50s and I own most of their CDs. But I've always ignored these guys. But I'm really impressed with this rendition of "It Could Happen to You," one of my favorite songs fro their late song book.

I have most of what Sue Raney recorded including her great Doris Day tribute. The Four Freshmen have been a lifetime devotion for me and I have everything they did for Capitol and some after. The current configuration, by the way, sounds like the originals. The Freshmen still have a big college following. Sue, by the way, looks just like this. She has tended her looks carefully and wisely.

@casch0101 Much of the difference is the backup orchestra in 1964. The vocals with both ensembles are the best. Technology has made the current group all the more special. I do enjoy Sue Raney sharing her part because she certainly adds an excellent sound that fills the cracks.

In taking a second close look Sue Raney looks like my "crush girl" Liz Star .Liz & I made some youtube stuff. I sing Accustomed To Her Face - to her as Hollywood Jerry. Connecting these 2 girls certainly draws me into Sue Raney. I've seen Miss Raney's work a lot - what a singer. Love her with the Four Freshmen. Thanks, Jerry Wilson.

Sue Raney was always a great singer and still is. She's just a hair flat on a few notes - but blends so beautifully with the guys. I understand this a "live" performance and it's excusable if there might be a tiny flaw from anybody. Thanks. AAA +
