Fishing at last! In this video I head out fishing with Adrian (God's gift to Detroit Diesel owners!) and his stepson Thomas and Jason from Remora Lures Australia ( / remoralures )
On the first trip the boys catch a few flathead, which they kindly let me keep, and then on the second day Jason helps me to install some rod holders on Renko and teaches me the basics of game fishing for tuna and marlin. To make the day extra special he also gave me a custom Renko lure to get me started. :)
Be sure to also check out Mike's video on the channel She'll Be Right Garage where the two of us work together to get an old Cleveland 302 that hasn't run in 20 years fired up again. • Part 2 "SLEEZY" EPIC W...

I'd recommend some horizontal rod holders on the inside of the rails. Allows you to keep rods for different situations out of the way until needed. The boat is coming along great. No such thing as too many rod holders! Keep up the great work and we'll be watching.
@chiphill4856
@chiphill4856 3 жыл бұрын
Those rods stick up above the rail. I'm talking about a HORIZONTAL rack. He could use two or three of them, holding a few rods each. It would tidy up the cockpit and get those rods out of the way so he can fish all the way around the boat.

I didn’t notice what kind of engine it is. I know it’s Vetus but they don’t make their own engines (I don’t think). They just marinize them. Kubota, Isuzu, Yanmar Tractor, or any number of others. Find the none marine exhaust manifold and build a basic water neck that ejects waste hot water so the rubber exhaust pipe stays cool. Then find a heat exchanger. The only thing you’ll need to work out is an expansion tank with a radiator cap on it. But that could be fabricated without to much drama at a local radiator repair shop out of brass. They’ll have solder on radiator cap bungs. Something that hold a few liters and have a 3/4 nipple on it that you can T-into one of the coolant lines. Note: use silver solder for durability. It takes higher temps but is much stronger for beating around in a boat.

So my wife and I have discovered in our river, a passing boat is the BEST time to launch your bait. We used to wait forever for a bite and wind in when a boat passed in front of us in the channel. But we learned to keep your line in situ and let the boat pass overhead, would nearly always bring our lines to life. The only downside: the looks on boatie's faces when we'd intentionally launch our lines at their boats as they approached.

That S/steel washing machine drum makes a brilliant barbecue drum. Maybe mount it on the gunnel of Renko?

For sure, they are handy for lots of things. Certainly didn't want to throw the machines away without taking them out first.

The other option with the heat exchanger is to bin it and fit a cast iron manifold off of the plant version of the mitsubishi engine. Then you could fit the aftermarket heat exchanger separately. You would have to wrap the cast manifold to try and keep the engine room temperatures down. Or build a manifold out of steel pipe. It looked like a good time out fishing. All the best mate. I can get a new heat exchanger housing for around £500 and the tube stack heat exchanger is another £350 or so here in the UK. Plus shipping to AUS.

I have thought about getting the exhaust manifold from the road version of the engine, could be a good way to go.
